This is a fake IRS scammer (a real scammer -- an IRS faker) hiding behind a magicJack number.

See a previous post I made here on 800notes called "Fake IRS agents and magicJack numbers" at:

I received a call from a man with the very heavy accent as well. Like the other cases reported, the man said that it was an "urgent IRS" matter and asked me if I had received a letter. I told him no. He then stated that I needed to call a Michael Johnson at 415-251-9252 extension 139 as he would inform me of this "matter". I pretty much knew that this was a lie since I deal with the IRS on a regular basis and know for a fact that they contact you via mail; NOT by phone. Just out of curiosity though, I called the number three times and the calls immediately went straight to voicemail. The voicemail message said: "The Magic Jack customer you have called is unavailable to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone." I HIGHLY doubt that the IRS uses the Magic Jack telephone service. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!!!!

Kept on getting multiple calls today from Caller ID "Igancio, Ca" too.  I answered and each time and there's no one on the other line, so I hang up.  Finally I got tired of the person calling and just left the phone on while I went about my business.  Finally after about 30 seconds I hear a faint hello.  Heavy East Indian accent, badly mispronounces my name.  I say nobody by that name and he still continues to read his script and asks me to take a message.  That's not a normal, response! Most people would apologize and ask you to confirm the number they're trying to reach! He says his name is Roger William and I needed to call 415-251-9252 and speak with Jams Miller about the details of my IRS problem. That's odd why would I need to call back the same number that this person just called me to get the details!!!

Don't call back and don't give any of your information!!!

Got woke up at 6:59 am on sat. Caller ID said California and the person with broken English said they were the IRS and was looking for my wife. He repeated many times IRS and kept asking for wife. I said she was sleeping and the ID said California not IRS and its 6 AM on the East coast and I'm calling the police. He said f*** you and hung up. I called the number back and cussed him back as he hung up. He blocked my next attempts so I called the police because he pretending to be a Federal agent. The police came over 30 minutes later and while investigating my complaint the phone rang at 7:42 with the same number. The police officer answered and questioned her and identified herself and they hung up. The officer called on a different phone (hers) and they wouldn't answer. I was instructed to call my phone provider Verizon  to complain.

Yes, I think the calls are coming from Ahmadabad.  Apparently the Gujarat area is where the bulk of the IRS scams are coming from but they could be coming from anywhere in India.   For some reason they like to use the 415 area code.

This is a scam. these people identified themselves as IRS representatives. they said: This is the third and last call. They want me to call them inmediately because Im being audit, and I will be in trouble if I don't call and deal with this situation.
I dont own any money to IRS and if this was a legitimate call from IRS they will always send you a letter and they will call form phone numbers that when your search they will appear as IRS phone numbers.

I received the same call.  They left a very hard to understand message.  Years ago I went through an IRS audit and I can tell you, that they always contact you via mail and not via phone.  I can log into my phone account and block numbers.  Maybe that is what everyone should do.  From all I have found out, they will continue to call and harass without ceasing.

Same thing as all, this guy is such a bser, I picked up the phone and started talking to him; cause I heard the message.

I have no bills overdue, collections, or any issues with my taxes...

So I start asking questions that the IRS would have on hand, he had no answer to any of them, including my middle name.  Because it is not relatively given to people, and it is on my proper identification/SS as well.

Intelligence goes a long way

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:

?If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
?If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
?If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.

Anyone who calls at 8 AM gets sent to voicemail. I sincerely doubted that the IRS would use someone as a telephone operator that spoke such accented English that you couldn't understand them. I see from other posts that "David" has called others, too. My ID came up with Novato CA, and since as far as I know the IRS doesn't have a branch there, I knew it was a scam. However, I came here to see if there was anyway I could report them. I guess just phoning people and being annoying isn't a crime, so there's not much we can do.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I got a call from this number. The first 2 times I let it go to the answering machine, on the third time I picked up the phone.  The guy on the other end spoke with heavy Indian accent, stating he is calling from IRS. He said this twice, from Internal Revenue Service.  Somehow he had our name.   Does anyone know how to stop VoIP calls coming from a spoofed caller ID?

I received a call on 2/15 at 6:50am from Susan Brown leaving a message to call back the IRS at 415 251 9252 looking for my husband and not to ignore this call.  I was wondering why the IRS would call us and not notify us in the mail.  Then I called back asking to confirm it was the IRS, Michael Johnson answered the phone.  He claimed I was being a stupid lady and that he would not be giving me any information and that I could wait til the sheriff's office can come and arrest both my husband and I.  I told him that in this day and age there was a lot of fraud and I would like him to give me verification that this was the IRS.  He called me a stupid lady giving him a hard time and not to call him back.  I told him that I would like to speak with his manager or supervisor.  He said I will not be receiving further information until the Sheriff contacts me.  I told him that I didn't appreciate them calling me and harassing me.   He told me not to call them back again and hung up.  I then found this blog and felt much better.  Unbelievable.
