Wow, Nobody, that is quite an expose. Very informative particularly the part where local telecoms have to reimburse a fee to the caller just to access CNAM database. Have never heard this aspect of the robocall problem--was under impression that robocalls were primarily to find live/active phone numbers so that a human could call back to take advantage of the people who innocently answered their phone (or pressed a number "to be removed from the calling list"). This is quite a bombshell and could shut the entire robocall "industry" if all that is needed to end robocalling is for someone to stop paying a fee to the robocallers. Is it really that simple and straightforward?  Curious how you uncovered that information? To know those sort of details points to an insider. Do you have a blog where you provide further details about this fee paying aspect?

The depth of your information and the research you put into your comments is impressive, would make great "entertaining" news segment, meaning second or third headliner on one of those TV news magazines such as "60 Minutes" or "Rock Center with Brian Williams." With your information in the hands of the right investigative "reporter," you could become a hero to millions of robocall sufferers. And could provide more than just a couple of politicians tremendous mileage as consumer rights crusaders. That is as long as your information is correct. Give it a try, why don't you?

Or just tell them a bunch of people are waiting outside to drag them out. Who knows, a bunch of people might drag them out for real when they least expect it.

IF you get a live operator, simply tell her, "I know where you live. I'm going to kill you." At least the scumbags will have something to think about.

I did not answer but they left a vague message about this being my last chance to take advantage of the financial stimulus package we all supposedly have access to somewhere out there in the universe.  We get this about once a week and since we never answer, I have not tried talking to any of them but it is nice to know it would be pointless as they are not in it for us but in it for their own paycheck.

Calls from this number come in once a week and have done so for several months.  Twice I have told them, "Do not call this number", and my admonition has been ignored.

Received an automated call, supposedly my last and final opportunity to lower my credit card rate.  The message did not identify which credit card service they represented -- obviously a fake call.

If you call this number back they give you the option to add your number to their Do Not Call list. I just did that. It stated that it may take up to 48 hours for their system to become updated, so we'll see if I get any calls after that.

You would think, Ken, that if they're just trying to make a living they would try harder not to alienate everybody they come in contact with.  Nobody's going to buy anything if they're immediately upset.

This is a call about lowering your interest rate on your credit cards.  Gives you the option to press 3 to discontinue further calls.  This doesn't work.   The option 1 to talk to them doesn't work either.  They call several times a week and when I tell them to stop calling they hang up on me.

I keep being called from (today this number) and I pressed 1 to speak to a person (option 1). When I said that I wanted to speak to them (not about lowering interest rate) but to ask which card they were caling about (so I could cancel it) they hang up.

Take a step back and look at the big picture.  You usually can't call them back because the phone numbers they use evaporate as soon as they hand up and if they do answer, the opt out feature never works.  But they're going to keep calling you and that is their only weakness.  Go to Walmart or any sporting goods store.  Buy a canned air horn from the boating department and set it beside your phone.  Next time the robo machine picks your number, press 1 to speak to a rep and as soon as they answer try to blow their eardrums out the other side of their head.  This is our only defense.  I horned Rachael at Card Member Services once then I put the phone back to my ear.  She said in a very angry voice "do you feel better now?"  I replied, "not yet" and I horned her again then I hung up on her!  What great fun.  The calls will never stop but at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that when the call is over, the person who called you will be more pissed off than you are.
