Called them back. It's a survey company working for many other companies. Survey companies are not subject to the DNC list. You have to block them or talk to them to tell them to remove you from their caller list.

They called and left their phone number as a message.  When I called back their automated message asked for my account number and password. They did not give a company name.

Telephone Number Database Program run by BellCore, funded by the CDC's Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services -
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System ( BFRSS ). Covert Fed program portraying totally different callers/businesses to assess population density and reaction data to determine how fast an extremely virulent pathogen will spread and what level of public panic they can expect. Random numbers picked. Relatively harmless to you and me.

I received a call this evening.  A woman speaking Spanish in the background to another person.  I heard a male voice in background.  I kept saying, "Hello".  She finally said, "Bueno".  I said, "No Habla Espanol".  She said, "I don't speak English.".  Then she hung up.  This isn't even a cell number or home number they called, but a Magic Jack phone number.  These people need to get a life.  I received a call like that on my personal cell earlier today, but from a different phone number.

I have experienced that the way to beat a robodialer is to answer the phone, then quickly and repeatedly press the pound key until the call disconnects.  I have heard that doing this will kick your number out of their system.  I have had some success with this in the past.  It just came to mind today with these calls.

Answer phone.  Dead air.  Computer voice says "goodbye."  Call disconnects.  Yep, that's it!

First and foremost, do NOT give any personal information!  This includes name, other phone numbers you may have, address, and most importantly, your Social Security Number.  You should also never give information about the number of persons in the home, schedules ("When is the best time to call?"), or the names and ages of other occupants.

What you SHOULD DO is ask them for what information they already have on you.  If they ask to verify information, ask them what they already have.  At some point in the conversation, it will go something like this:

"OK, let me verify a few things here.  May I have your full name, please?"  RED FLAG!  Try this:

"OK, let me verify a few things here.  May I have your full name please?"  (You):  I will be happy to verify any information you provide me with."  What do you have for my name?"

Chances are that all they will have is your phone number.  DO NOT verify information that they cannot provide!

We had the same thing happen here.  Four calls in two days, three calls just today!  I have a feeling that these may be "fishing" calls, where they make several calls during the day and night, to find out when the phone is answered.  Once they are finished, they send (sell?) the data to telemarketing companies, who will then badger us all in multiple!

I believe that the intent of these calls is not conversation, sales or bill collection.  I believe that it is an attempt to determine phone habits across the country.  Autodialers are used, programmed to hang up on the fourth ring, so no message is left.  In case the person answers their phone, the dialing system says an automated "goodbye," to close the call.  Autodialed calls cannot generally be called back.

I'm on the Do Not Call list also, and spend much of my time filing complaints against unwanted callers. On this number, no message, no one on the line, and a search of the area code says it's one of a bunch of area codes that are used by "companies" in which the person who is called pays the toll, not the person who calls. According to the Do Not Call Registry, depending on how a business classifies itself, it can be exempt from the registry rules and can call you all they want. I believe if I'm POed enough to list myself on that registry, it means NO CALLS! It shouldn't matter if it's for a convent looking to fund orphaned babies or a roofing salesman with the best deal of the century, if I'm on the Do Not Call list it means DO NOT CALL!! If I want their business, I'll look them up! You know if I were to go around ghost-dialing random numbers all day I'd end up in jail; why aren't these people getting in trouble?

This is probably a scam contact centre, which could be anywhere in the world.  It is easy to "spoof" (i.e. fake) the phone number that appears in the call display.    We have received about 8 calls in the last two days.  We say "hello" -- long pause, then a recorded voice says "Goodbye".  Look up "predictive dialer" on Google.  It is an automated system that dials every possible telephone number starting with 101-001-0001 all the way up to 999-999-9999.  If someone answers, the automated system trys to put an agent on the line to offer some sort of scam.  If no agent is available, then the system says "Goodbye" and hangs up, but probably adds your number to a list to call back later.

Best solution:  Answer, but don't say anything.  The predictive dialer may think it has reached a fax machine and probably will not call again.

Well I have been doing a lot of research on this phone number, and here is the reason we cannot stop them, it is a pinless phone card used all over the world. I did see this number linked to Afghanistan. I went to the webpage of SNFC Central San Francisco CA, these phone cards are in English, Chinese and Cantonese.  That is as good as I can do, maybe someone can do better than I. Also, check Callferret website, these people were real good in digging people out, but they are being sued by collection agencies because they are giving information that those agencies do not want you to have.

I only started getting these scam calls from a half a dozen different numbers when I applied for some investment classes at the Get Motivated show. I wonder if they sold a telephone list to some scammers?  I had to give out my home phone number on the application forms.  This is the only place I have given out my number.  Never give out you phone numbers.

Also these phone numbers are more than likely spoofed, google "spoofing telephone numbers".  They are hard to trace.

With new technology, the caller can display on your phone any number the caller choose.
I think this callers belong to some kind of terrorist group trying to wreak a havoc.
They call some delivery business such as pizza and display my number.  The pizza place call me to verify.
Sometimes 911 is displayed.
I emailed Bob Rae and MP with no avail..

I traced the number by pressing *57 (depending on phone service supplier) for the origin of the phone as suggested by the police.
I called the police letting them know they can find the genuine number from my phone server and conveyed my concern about the terrorism. The police man told me that he will not pursue the issue because he is too busy. Eventuallty this guys (caller) will make phone system useless.

Got a call from this number on 8/8/11 @2:52CDT in Louisiana. Caller-ID said SNFC CNTRL CA

Didn't answer, and did a Google search immediately.  I never answer a number I'm not familiar with, or not expecting. If the call is important enough, they'll call me back.

Just a hint to others. Never give your phone number out at ANY store!!!  I think I'm getting these types of solicitor calls now because I gave my phone number out without thinking at Toys-R-Us a while back. I refuse to give my number out anymore, and dare them to not sell me something because of it.

Radio Shack is notorious for this too, but they are both not the only ones.  I have no problem giving out my zip code, as they can't get to me directly, but no more phone numbers.  The calls from many various companies haven't stopped since I gave my number to Toys-R-Us.  My advice: don't answer unfamiliar numbers at all.

Also, never put your phone number on those store 'rewards' cards. I don't doubt those places are selling phone numbers.  Why does a store honestly need to have a special card so you can get a special price?  To sell your info to telemarketers. Think about it.
