My wife got a call from 416 477-0209 on the afternoon of Feb. 9 saying, this is your grandson I'm in Montreal at the courthouse and I've been charged with DUI I need $2000 by tomorrow. We don't have a grandson but she thought it sounded like someone else we new and made the mistake of saying Bob is that you . Of coarse the guy said yeah it's me, I really need your help please send me the money. She was reluctant to commit to sending the money and said she would discuss it with me when I got home from work. At that point they said they would call back around 6:00. Needless to say my wife was upset when I arrived home believing it was our friend Bob as I did after hearing the story. I took the next call at 8;00 pm, the guy on the other end gave me the same story but when I asked some personal questions like how old are you and when did you get your license he hung up. Watch for this number and don't answer and if you do don't volunteer any info.
This was emotional torcher for us until we found this blog and realized we had almost been scammed.

I just received one of these calls today, once again..1st time I said I didn't have grandson and they hung up...not this time though I played their game...of course its a ont area code...said he was calling from Montreal, had an accident and was in the courthouse...needed money to get home etc and not to tell his mom..he would tell her when he got home...told him I would do it and to call me back....damn if the idiot didn't call me back and I gave him a phony 10 digit number to reference...oh he also said he lost his wallet and to send it to his buddy SEAN LOWE,,he also asked for my cell number which I gave a fake one lol...he would call me back once he got it...well I had 4 calls in a matter of a few minutes and chose to ignore...doubt that little bugger will be calling again...I phone my local police and was given a number for fraud reports...the number is 1-888-495-8501 if any are interested in reporting this...got to love scamming a scammer...

Yes,, my mother who is 93 yrs old, but still playing duplicate bridge three times a week, got hit last Thursday by    416-477-0209 to the tune of $40000.00 saying her grandson was in jail in Montreal on a serious DUI charge,and send this money to the lawyer NOW.   The money was sent to a JOSEPH MARLIN   (I FOUND A J.MARLIN IN COURTNEY B.C).  She is in Kelowna B.C. and the fellow on the phone directed her to the Safeway Store inb Kelowna,  where there is a WESTERN UNION who also charged an additional $159.00 to send it.   The police in Kelowna said "sorry, nothing we can do about it.  Happens all the time!"   YIKES   what is this world coming to.

I recieved the same phone call around the same time. Same thing happened actually, we reported it to the phone busters, perhaps you should do the same.

My phone rang, call display was 416-477-020-, Toronto
Caller said Hi Grandma when I answer--my grandkids are 9 abd 13 years old and in Alberta.
He agreed that he was Greg (name I threw out as I have a niece married to a Greg who lives in Toronto),
that I knew who he was etc. etc.


Anyway have heard of a scam with young guys claiming to be grandsons, have had a car accident and please send money.  He started to say some thing about an accident, when I Told them I didn't believe him, he immediately hung up.
