Debt Collector
Up-to-date with payments every month.  Always called if I was going to be late.  They never acknowledged that I called, as callers would hound me several times day and night until three days after I paid. Have been reprimanded at work for all the calls they make to me during my shift. They have taken monies out of my account without notice, caused me five years to clean up my credit report for the events that unfolded because they took money without my knowledge. Have complained to customer service at CIBC returned the call but stated their hands were tied when it came to the student loans division.  Have complained to CIBC ombudsman and not heard anything.  Have complained to the Ombudsman of banking proceedures without any reponse.  I had not had any calls for one week and thought my complaints had had some effect, but to my dismay this a.m. I had two more calls from 1-800-597-5525.

When I have taken calls from them and am up-to-date with my payments, they want to know if all my information is correct. These calls can be every week in the past.  It has resently every few days.

I tell them I am not planning to move I like my job I have fought tooth and nail to retain my cell phone number for 10 years; (as all cell carriers want you to change your number when changing provider so they can charge you 20 to 30 dollars for the change of numbers).  If they keep calling during my shifts I might get fired and then they will not receive payments.

I am tired of the harrassment , my stress level goes right over the top when I see a 800 number on my phone. If all students banded together maybe we could get CIBC student loans to pay attention. Leave me a message on this web sight.

Showed up on my Caller ID today.  Tried to call them back and hit an intercept "We're sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service.  Please check the number and try your call again."

Well it is a legitimate number but when they called me they had my number on someone else's account because they asked me about a mortgage I do not have a mortgage with them so I called CIBC and they could not identify the number. So I erred on the side of cation. With all the scams and identity fraud going on these days I don't think that my reaction was unreasonable. I mean if they want me to answer the call then they might want to Identify the number as PC Financial? Just a thought.

they are the scum of earth
they are calling from CIBC collections because you were either one minute late on a payment or you missed a payment completely. the people calling from this number are rude, and are on commission, they are disgusting human beings. if you can, just ignore them. they are worthless trash.

Got a call from "CIBC Mortgages" after hours; same number as previous complaints: 1-416-784-9499.  They were calling to express concern about a mortgage payment that "bounced" despite the fact that my records showed that the payment had already gone through. They started off by asking security questions (address, DOB) and were set to ask for verification of my account #.  That's where the conversation ended.  DO NOT EVER PASS BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION OVER THE TELEPHONE.  BANKS DO NOT CALL REQUESTING SUCH INFORMATION, ESPECIALLY FOR 'VERIFICATION' PURPOSES.  A check of the phone number showed it not to be in service.

Just to confirm that it is a number for CIBC (Firstline Mortgage) .The "urgent call" was a missed payment due to banking error. I was skeptical about their calls as well because I had NO reason to think there may be an issue. I didn't answer their questions and instead I called the toll free number on my mortgage statement.

This is a valid number, I got a call. Yes I couldn't call it back but I called collections dept for my mortgage and they did acknowledge there was an issue.  Mortgages through PC Financial, Firstline, CIBC are all handled by the same department.

MUST in verb is a request for obligation, therefor if someone says you must do something, you are in no way oblidged to contract with them.

look it up in the dictionary. please dont spread misinformation

the callback number provided is an offer to contract.

if they call to demand information from you, tell them you want it in writing.
dont give out personal information over the phone.

find remedy, stay in honour, without recourse

This is a legit phone #.  You MUST call these people back.  It's the PC Financial CREDIT DEPARTMENT.

PC Financial Customer Service typically does not recognize it, but I kept asking and the lady talked to her supervisor who was able to lookup the number.

If you never call back it just means any accounts you're missing payments on will likely go to collections / lawyers sooner.

I think it could be all of the above. I have a Firstline mortgage and I believe that is what the number is. Firstline, PC Financial, and CIBC are all essentially part of the same group of companies, or at lease all underwritten by CIBC.

This number has been calling my business line for  about 7 days several times a day. When I pick it up it is dead on their end and when I called it back the number is no longer in service.

I work as a psychic and got a funny feeling about the calls so I called CIBC Customer Care to inquire about the number and they gave me the number for the Corporate Switchboard. No one could identify the number as a CIBC number so I did a google search and found this thread.

I have called the Outbound Reassurance Line and they have confirmed that it is not a legitimate CIBC contact number. They have escalated my complaint to have their security team investigate it and suggest that if individuals receive enough of these calls to the point where it is harassment that they can report it to your local police department.

Hope that puts an end to this nonsense.

I know its cibc and I am pretty sure it is the collections department, I think it is probably an extension of the main number and that is why you can not call it back.

They called on my phone number at work. A man asked me to call back at 1866-310-7437 telling me it is very important. This is the number of sutton mortgage. I didn't give them any personal information. I called back at 416-784-9499 and that answers something like : the number you called is not in service

Also got confirmation from CIBC that the number is not in their system.  I was told that for future reference, we can call CIBC's Outbound Customer Reassurance Line at 1-888-831-8818 to verify the legitimacy of a call.

BEWARE of suspicious calls and don't give out personal info!!

These people have been calling my place of work for over 2 years and the funny thing is that we don't even deal with CIBC. I've tried several times to call back to see what they really wanted and the number is no longer in use. They keep telling my boss that it would be in my best interest to reply as soon as possible. I would really like these phone calls to stop.

I've been getting a call from them everyday this week.  I saw these responses earlier in the week and today I answered the call.  It was a woman who identified me by my legal first name and last name (i go by my middle name except on official papers) She said that there was a problem with my mortgage and she had to ask me a few personal questions.  The first question was what address did I have the mortgage on.  I have 2 mortgages through PC Financial and I asked her which one she was calling about.  She then asked me again for my address and I asked her what it was about.  She said that there was a problem with my account.  She then gave me a number to call back at 1-888-256-7722 and told me that they could me there.  I asked what I should tell them when I called and she said just call the number.  I called the number out of curiosity and the recording sounded a lot like the lady that just called me!  Then when I entered 1 for mortgages right away I got "Hello this is Philip speaking" and I hung up.

1.  PC Financial Mortgages closed at least an hour ago - so this number has to be a scam.
2.  Googling the number they gave me didn't return any PC Financial phone numbers...just more complaints about this number.

Beware!

It looks like it is a CIBC call centre and/or possibly a CIBC collections number, which is why they won't tell you what department they are. What an absolutely stupid hassle they cause by acting so suspicious like this. As of July 2010, they do answer the number. I was called by 416-784-5900 and a women on the phone told me they are a call centre located at 750 Lawrence Ave M5L 1A2. I have no way to confirm that information though.

But they called me out of the blue and it started like this "Hi, John Doe? Great. In order to cofirm you are who you say you are, we need you to answer the following security questions". I then responded, "wait, you called me. How do I know you are CIBC? How about I call you back?", response was "Ok, you can call us back at this number 1-800-597-5525". To which I responded, "That doesn't sound right. How about I call CIBC main branch, and have them transfer me to your department? What department do you work in?", the response was "we can't give you that information".

It seems suspicious except that 1-800-597-5525 is the CIBC student loan number.

Received a call today @ 2:18 P.M. I wasn't in at the time and therefore did not answer although I might have if I had been in the house. No message left. Checked 800 Notes ( a great site by the way ... I now have it bookmarked)and found this thread.

It would appear that CAUTION is in order here.
