I just had a message today saying there was potential fraud on by CIBC account and to call this number, and also gave 866-454-4339 as a # to call. Not trusting this kind of stuff, as I've had similar messages concerning cards I don't even own, I called the number on the back of my card. Once into CIBC, I was transferred to their fraud dept., and found out my card had been used a number of times...far away from my home. Somehow their system picks this up. I was told to destroy the card, and a new one would be sent out asap. The fraudulent charges were removed from the account. Watch out, there are a lot of nasty b*****ds out there. I did let CIBC know that I don't trust the type of message they sent out; however, they have to contact you somehow, and I suppose I would be just as suspicious with a tel call telling me something was wrong, figuring it was a scammer just phising for more account information. Damn, it's risky out there, but you have to stay on guard!

This =IS= actually the number for CIBC Credit Smart Fraud Detection.

I do not blame anyone for "ALWAYS" calling the number on the back of the Card, talking with the known CIBC rep and being transferred, internally, to the Fraud Department.

I just received an email from Credit Smart Fraud Alert.  Never having received one before, and the number being different in the email from the back of the card, called the number ON the Card.

They were most understanding of my having done it that way and were very helpful.  Thankfully it turned out that there was nothing really wrong, just unusual activity that was easily explainable.

Hope that helps some poor soul in the same situation.

A man called today. Sounded fishy. Not calling back

They called me and talked with my father just after I tried to do an overseas transaction that was blocked on my credit card 10,000 km from home.  There was no way to associate my transaction and my home phone number at the same time, except for CIBC, so this number is really the CIBC fraud department!

Got a call from this number from Sunita asking that I call back to verify charges on my Visa.

Upon returning from a 2 week vacation, l had a call on my voicemail on March 3rd from someone named Mary Lou requesting me to call 1-866-454-4339 or out-of-country 416-785-1331 regarding my CIBC VISA.  These numbers are not associated with CIBC VISA, nor did CIBC VISA appear on my call display, therefore I am NOT calling Mary Lou back.    

In my experience, credit card companies NEVER use phone numbers that are not publicly associated with them!    

Beware of Credit Card FRAUD.

I called 1 866 454 4339. They knew all my last transactions. I'm sure it's legit.

416-785-1331 is the number for CIBC credit card CS.

We were given this number by our CIBC branch when our credit card was issued as the number to call should we run into any problems using our card whilst overseas (or within Canada if the toll-free number will not work).  

We have called this number several times and always had the matter cleared up very quickly.

I received the same message yesterday and was "iffy" on the numbers.  I didn't call any of the numbers back, however I did call the number on the back of my CIBC VISA card and inquired.  They did have a memo on their system from the Fraud Dept.  She basically just went over my some transactions and had me confirm whether or not I had made those purchases.  Which I did, so it really is nice to know that they are looking out for me.  So, that said, the numbers are legitimate - but I felt a lot better calling the number on the back of my card.

Been doing some research and i do believe that number is connected with real estate fraud and also credit card or identity theft. If tracing the number it could be listed under a person's name that has already been scammed by these people. Because i do have a name and address but might himself be a victim, not sure.

Today - Sunday, I had a voice mail from James who said he was from CIBC credit card fraud response and left me 866-454-4339 and 416-785-1331 as call back numbers. The numbers look very different from the regular CIBC numbers so I googled the numbers and came up with this. I will be reporting this both to CIBC and the police.

I got the same call.  Someone who's name didn't come through very well and who couldn't pronounce my name well either.  They said they were calling from CIBC credit card fraud assistance, or something like that.
