Got a call from this number last night. Got my last name wrong, which is pretty hard to do if you can read. Very thick Indian accent, saying that I had applied for a loan, which I hadn't. He asked me something that I couldn't understand, even after having him repeat his question several times. I finally hung up on the scammer.

And yet Canadian companies are flocking to India and using their call centers. Just how much of *our* personal information is being disseminated to the criminal underworld in India?

I avoid dealing with the large corporation's Bell, Rogers and the big banks etc (I use a Credit Union) partly for this reason, but mainly for their lousy customer service and exorbitant rates and fees.

I don't know if they were the same persons, but they were also two guys who was speaking to me, the first one with an India accent and the other one, who is supposed to be the manager, with another accent I can't tell which one is. They told me, they are working for RBC bank head office in Toronto.

They told me, because I'm a good client, they make me an offer to reduce the interest of my cc. To know if I am the good person for security reason, they asked me my cc number, expiration date and the 3 numbers on the back of the card, my birthday. I GAVE THEM EVERYTHING - even if I was totally sceptic (the bad english, the way he spokes to me, no professionnalism, without explaining good, and to give my cc numbers at the phone, I didn't feel good with it, and many other details). I explain you why I did.

This is what they knew and mentioned me at the phone:
- My name
- My address
- The 2 first numbers of my cc
- A specific date with the amount that I paid on my cc and I think another amount.

The day after, I have called rbc bank to check that. What it is strange, the first women with who I talked told me it's true, my interest is reduce. But she said, to be sure, I transfer you to the security. Then, the security women told me, no one called you, so we cancelled my cc. We also have checked, they didn't use my card.

The same day, the same two guys called me again and wanted to explain me everything (as I stopped the conversation the first call because I was busy). Then I told them, as I didn't trust them at all that I called rbc and that I was told no one called me so I cancelled my cc. They said, we are not the same branch that#s why the don't know, they are VISA head office in TO, they gave me purchase amounts + dates + balance, which was exact (probably because they got my info, they were able to check..). Anyway, I told them I don't give cc number at the phone this is too dangerous bla bla and at the end, as they couldn't say much more, they started to flirt me big time!!

Can someone explain me who's that guys, why they knew so much infos, why my interest was really reduced..and if they are really imposter, why do they called me a second time when they had already got all informations from me.
Thank you for helping!

Dear Sirs,

Because they don't knew that I advanced technology I have seen that call comes from a park in Toronto, from the intersection of Queen St W with Bay St, Nathan Phillips Square Park more precisely.Begin with lies that have a promotion from RBC for me because I paying bills on time. Then ask me when I paid last bill and try to check the number of credit card account, and the number after the back.
I "played" with these b*****ds because I never had an account at RBC, and also to laugh at them I gave a wrong card number, so I got worse with the lie that they said data checked are correct.
After the emphasis with which they spoke is pakistani or hindu accent.( One said him name is Ron Mackenzie......b***s***)
Be careful and don't be fooled by these b*****ds!

Best regards,

Two weeks ago, someone with a heavy Indian Accent phoned me asking for some information on my RBC Visa.  He didn't get to ask any questions before I hung up.  On Oct. 4/11, at 2pm.  I again got a call from a person with a heavy Indian Accent, who once more said he needed information about my RBC bank card, and once again, I hung up.  My son who resides in Montreal, called me  two weeks ago, a short while after I received the call, and he too had just gotten off the phone with a man with a heavy Indian Accent, requesting credit card information.  He also closed the telephone.  We seem to be targeted on average of every two weeks, and it would be nice to be able to apprehend whoever thinks he can get away with this.

I just got a call from 416-786-1214 (caller ID 037230802) saying that they were calling (with a very heavy Indian accent) from my Visa head office. When I asked which bank he repeated Visa head office, so I asked again from which bank he was calling from, he answered RBC, because of the background noise I had him repeat and then he said TD, (I don't have a Visa card  from any of these banks) then he asked my if I was Mr. So-So living at So-So address, I confirmed, at that point he started to get frustrated and he asked me which Visa I was using for which I reply that it was none of his business, he hung up.

Debt Collector
My Aunt received a call today (Saturday evening September 24th, 2011) asking her if she paid her credit card invoice, my Aunt said, "no not yet" then the man with an East Indian accent asked her for the expirary date of her credit card.  She refused, and he kept persisitng and also trying to get her credit card number.  She hung up on him.  Thank God!

The call came from Toronto, and the number is 416-786-1214.  This person is a credit card scamer.  I wanted to post this to let people know.  The elderly people must be informed as well, by their children and or friends.  They are mostly the target for these scams and tend to be more trusting.

Pass this info along.  Thank you!

Hi there,

I've just received (Sept 23, 2011) a call from Indian asking for the expiry date for my RBC visa card.  He had my address and postal code. He claimed for verification and I asked what verification, he said there strange activities in my account.  I told him I will contact the bank and he went like no need to go, your time is precious and pressed my to give the expiry date. I asked for him name, and he told me an Indian name I don't understand and I asked him how to spell it. He hang up.

I just received a call from these so called verifiers. I gave him a run for his lousy attemp to get info. and had the stupid idea of calling right back. Boy what an idiot. Credit card companies and banks will never call to verify your info. They will ask you to go into your branch a.s.a.p. Please report this to the anti-fraud office Phone busters: 1 (888) 495-8501

P.S. Pass on this info to family, friends and any contacts.

I also got a call from this number just now (2011-09-20). i wasn't sure if it was an indian lady or a man but he asked me when was the last time i received my credit card bill. He mentioned his name and he said he was calling from the TD branch in ontario. Since i heard my voice overlapping, i told that person that i couldn't understand well and he told me he would call back but did not call back. Can't they do something about this? I'm sure there are people that think its a real call and give their personal informations to them...

Just received a call from the same scam unit - after my hesitation about giving him information on the expiry date of my credit card, he himself confirmed my name and full address and then asked for the card number. I did not provide it but asked him for his phone number, which he quickly provided (and which ended up being non-existent).  I called my bank card company immediately to confirm whether this was them calling and they said no.  If this is indeed a Toronto cell number then should not the police be investigating the number and the scam?

These two guys have been calling many of our clients. This is the 4th time this phone number is given to me by clients these two bozos have tried to scam.

They are hilarious in their ignorance and, let's face it, stupidity.

These are barefaced phishing attempts, do not disclose any information.

Same thing. A man with an Indian accent said he was calling "about the credit card, for verification". We verifed the mail adress and the phone number, and after he said "you see i know this info, let me to do my job". he asked me the following questions.
-when was the last time you receive a statement from Visa?
- What is the expiry date on the card?
-What is the number card?
At this point I hung up, he calld me twice, I didn't answer.

Any how, I told f-off in French! These guys have no shame, like he called twice already. ROFL. Next time I will use an 'made up language' to talk this idiot Harrry.

The caller may be Eddy, after all, faking his accent. He is a fraud anyhow: "Visa headquarters" security asking for info on your last statement... Not an idiot, though, as he continues to snoop around. Playing idiot pays off, apparently.
