Annoyed as you may be,this is not a scam.It is a recognized charity from whom you will receive a tax deductable reciept if you choose to donate.It's an on-going project to recognize and record the experiences of of people who served in the Canadian Forces.They are trying to do this before all the WWII Vets pass on.
 Annoying to many,for sure.But I donated last year in memory of my late parents,and two people who would have been my uncles.All of them served in our CF during WWII.Compared to what our CF members have gone through,if this call is the biggest annoyance in my life,I consider myself a lucky man.

Wow some of you are lucky to have only been asked for $50 or $25 donation. After a shpeel that seemed to last anywhere from 5-10 minutes the woman suddenly gets to the point to ask me for a donation... of $200!!!! I was like "You're f@#$ing crazy if you think anyone's going to suddenly roll over and give you THAT sort of sum for a donation!" Then the lady proceeded to try to get something out of me from $100, to $50, to $25... persistent woman for sure. I had to end the call with at the rate she was going, I wouldn't give her the shirt off my back, she totally crossed the line.

I received this call this afternoon by who claimed to be the Historica Dominion Institute for the Memory Project, and it was from a 416-238-1249 number and doing a yellowpages search by phone number, the number is registered to a Joshua Lee at 60 Brian Harrison Way,Toronto ON, but calling the number it has the same automated message claiming to the the Historica Dominion etc. It's all too easy for fraudsters to tamper with phone lines and messaging services so I really highly doubt that the caller was from the Historica Dominion.

I would have been convinced that they probably were had they not asked me for $200 off the bat anyway, but that's too suspicious in my eyes. I've reported the number to Phone Busters and if any of you are as suspicious of some of these calls I would suggest having it looked into. It's really peculiar and you can't be too careful out there now since these fraud scams are becoming more frequent and easily developed. Check your phone bills...this number has shown up on my last 2 bill and have been charge 5 cents each time

Calling daily, they hang up as soon as my machine picks up the call.  i'm on a do not call list.

Called Wednesday 3:30 pm. Displayed '4168449703'. Answering machine picked it up. Caller hung up. Received call 3:31 pm. 'Private Caller' displayed. Machine picked it up. Caller hung up...Kind of obvious who it was calling back...These kinds of people are really dreadful...

same routine . they even call on sunday  I did not pick up.. I generally leave calls from unknown numbers

Just spoke with the Historica Dominion Institute, and when you are on their web site and go to contacts there is a phone number and an 800 number to call, and it is not the same as the number that is in question here.  The Institute knows nothing about this number nor the calls, and she will be giving me a follow up call, once she has thoroughly investigated this.

Called at 5:00 sUNDAY. Calls almost every day sometimes several times in one day. I never answer if I don't know the number unless they identify themselves on call display. This one just uses the number as the caller.

Received phone call this morning (June 6th) and woman said she is from the National Hearing Loss Institute. Hmmmm.....how many companies are functioning under the same number??

416-844-9703 is not listed in the online YellowPages (for Ontario or anywhere else). These characters are slippery enough that, if I was a veteran, I would tell them to stop the hell trying to act on my behalf. As "bushwah" (above) pointed out ...

The Historica-Dominion Institute is a registered charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency (RCN:885434720RR0001). All registered charities are exempt from the do not call listing in Canada. However we are required to maintain an internal do not call list. Your name and number have been added to that list.

I.e., the CRA has granted them a licence to annoy us. It sounds to me like it's far too easy to get a "Registered Charity" number from the CRA - so they can take your money and use it to finance automated telephone canvassing.

Saw number on missed call list.   Called back because I was expecting a call from ON.  Message said number not in service.  My number has been on the NDNC list from day one but I still get calls every day.

I was called by someone asking for $100 to pay for world war two vets to go to schools and tell the children about the history of the war. I said I would look at their web site and hung up

Charities can call those on the Do Not Call list.  Still not sure if they're legit, but they're claiming to be a charity.

Said something about veterans.  I couldn't really understand him, beyond him saying that he was calling from "the largest charity in Canada."  Really?  Um...  Doubtful.
