Every single freaking day this number calls and hangs up when the answering machine picks up. How can we STOP them.

Stop whining about it and turn it around on them. Do what I did. Get a Call Blocker.  I got one from Digitone (and, no, I do not work for them. I just bought one). They cost about a hundred bucks and worth every penny of it. To date, I have tracked 2156 calls and have blocked 720 of them (a solid 33%). Most of these calls were from telemarketers, telescammers, politicians, survey takers, and zombie debt collectors. Now I have them all blocked. You can even block by area code and use wild cards so that you can block entire regions of the country. You can also use "white list" blocking by blocking all numbers other than the ones on your contact list. Once again, at least for me, life is good. An alternative might be to find a number that when you call it, gives you a message that the number is not in service. Then you use your selective call forwarding and send all of your unwanted calls to that number (or your ex, whichever).  Good luck to all of you.

I also got the call, but I didn't mind the call, Why, because I bought a Digitone Call Blocker.  www.digitone.com The first time they call, it rings my phone and the call comes through. I then block the number and the next time they call, my phone doesn't even ring and the blocker hangs up on them. You can even block entire area codes. I have it setup to block any incoming calls with the 855 area code. The blocker keeps track of all calls, good and bad ones. Then I like to check to see who got hung up on just for fun like I am now.

You need to buy one of these, you?ll like it. No monthly fees either

The criminals behind this operation aren't going to pay attention to you asking to be removed from their list. Their calls cost them nothing and they can make thousands of them a day so they have no intention of ever removing someone. When you press a key to talk to them all that is accomplished is to verify that they have a working number. So what is their reason to continue calling even though they know you won't fall for their scam?
It's called the CNAM revenue-sharing program. Here is the explanation direct from the website of one of these operations.    http://www.telephonemanagement.net
"Every day your company makes thousands of outbound phone calls. Every one of those calls generates revenue for many companies, why not yours?
Our CNAM revenue-sharing program helps you make money every time a Caller ID request is made by a phone carrier. A high-traffic call center can lose hundreds to thousands of dollars a day to phone carriers by allowing them to charge for access to your own data."

You can now see why the criminals keep calling even though they know you won't fall for their scam. If someone does make the mistake of answering the phone and falling for their con then it is just icing on the cake for them. These people are the lowest form of filth on this planet.
Write your Congressmen and Senators. We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in prison, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved. The government needs to go after them using the RICO act. That will be the only effective means of dealing with this.
Here is an excellent blog site that I found that explains how one company is getting away with this activity.

Nothing you do will make them stop, I have tried everything. So, I am left to stoop to their level, press 1 to speak to a live person and give them the old F***U. Since I never use that kind of language, it was very liberating! I felt better, blocked their latest number used when I hung up. Guess I'm still a little upset after the election!
