Delbert, they are calling Canadian numbers.  Being registered with the IRS means nothing.  It?s a scam, and I assume you are on their payroll.

Ya this is definitely some sort of scam, this dude was really pushy and trying to guilt trip me into giving to this charity. A) I would never commit to a charity over the phone and B) I am not going to be pushed into something I am not comfortable with.  I finally told him you know what I am completely broke, I've got a sick parent and a child to support so kindly f-off and stop calling me. They recently began calling again.

Just got a call from this number - some guy calling from the police association. They are doing a program for kids in group homes to educate them on bullying and pedophiles and are looking for people to sponsor a kid - he said it was $22 for one kid or $30 for two and that covers the cost of transportation. Something was definitely fishy about him, he was talking way too fast and at the beginning when he asked how I was and I said, "Good thanks, and you?" he stumbled. Then he apologized for stumbling because, according to him, I was the first person to ask him how he is this morning and most people are not having a good day today. I politely declined and he asked if there was any way he could twist my arm. I told him it's not a good year for me and he asked me to keep them in mind maybe next year. Either it's a scam, or it was an incredibly poorly trained telemarketer.

By the way, Delbert, we don't have the IRS in Canada.

Had a call stating they were from the Toronto Policeman's Association. I explained that our household was not giving any more charitable donations at this point and was told "We are not a charity". I got upset with this answer and received an irate response saying "Look just yes or no, ok?" It seems "we are not giving to charities at this point" is unclear.

The caller sounded young, likely highschool or early college age.  Trying to promote local police department initiatives against bullying.  Asking for support ie. $$$.  I repeatedly asked for the company and it was Xentel Inc. - Telemarketing firm.

Wanted to know the police department they're calling on behalf, given the calls are likely across the country and they mentioned everyone?  I suspect this is a telemarketing scam and chatted for a nearly 5 mins to waste their time before hanging up.

I just got a call from this number, it started with a womans pre-recorded voice "due to the unprecedented number of calls ..." it got cutoff, and a man named James came on the line and asked for my mom. I knew it was a telemarketer, so i said "James who?", he rudely replied "its just James!"
I was taken aback so i said "shes not here" and hung up. How did he get this number and my moms name?? What a scam....

These people collect for the police association, but what they don't tell you is that about 95% of the money goes to them, and 5% to the police.
It is beyond me why the police association would go for such a ludicrous thing!!

DO NOT DONATE A PENNY, IT GOES TO SOME TELEMARKETING COMPANY IN THE U.S.

United Way??????, the Salvation Army???????.........how do you think they pay for advertising???.....oh and giving away household items that poor people could really use, but instead poor people need to buy the things from Salvation Army?.....no scams in these places. Look up the annual income for the founder of United Way....you may be surprised.
One last thing, Most fundraisers are working for a charity to raise the funds, without the fundraiser......the charity alone does not have the resources and manpower to raise enough money for the cause.

just another charity scam, misrepresenting themselves, trying to get money, dont give to them.

police get money from the goverment and fines and s*** that they give, they have plenty of money to go to schools and give info about police, this is just a scam from some company, not real police either.

Police forces do not conduct telemarketing campaigns, and there is nothing in the mandate of the Canadian Police Association remotely along these lines.  Any calls asking for money on behalf of police is almost certainly a scam.  Ask them the exact name of their organization, their website address and telephone number.  Better yet, when they tell you the call is being recorded, tell them that you do not consent to being recorded.  I always have to say this twice to get them to listen, but then they don't know what to do, other than to say goodbye, (after which, I say "good riddance".

Actually, if you want to fight back, the best way is to waste their time.  See how long you can keep them talking, by asking for explanations or pretending that you don't hear well. Bonus points if you get a supervisor on the line, because they are the only ones there making more than minimum wage.  If you want to have some real fun, see how long you can keep them on the line (wasting their time) by just saying the word "YES" to every question that they ask.  It's hilarious how long you can keep this up, because their script is designed to get you to say "yes" anyway. Saying Yes prompts them to continue on with their speech, delighted that you haven't made any objections.  They often don't clue in until you tell them that your credit card number is "Yes".  It is to laugh.

Most important thing: never, ever, ever buy anything or give information to anyone, who calls you on the telephone, unless you already know them.  You just never know who it really is or what they are going to do with the info/money.  Same thing goes for door-to-door solicitations of any kind.  Most of them are crooks.  If you think that you might be interested, ask for written material or at least a website that you can look at and investigate.  If they are legit, they will be happy to accommodate you.  If they won't, then just give your money to the United Way, the Salvation Army, or any other real charity, where it will be used to do something worthwhile.

Got a call this morning. He asked for me by name. I asked who he was, and he stated the name of the company too quickly to understand, and that the call was recorded, calling on behalf of the Canadian Police Association, for a charity called "Cops for Kids".  It's a real charity, who's website advises that they do NOT make telemarketing calls, so it's definitely a scdam.

Just received a call from these jokesters.  No they are definately not legit.  She went on about the police, teachers etc... then came the money part.  So I said (very honestly but knowing by this time it is a scam) *Oh, My brother's a police officer and he'll have this information so I can talk to him about this*

Call ended quickly with a thank you for your time *click*

They just called me and asked for Wanda who is no one that lives in this house. I told them they had the wrong number, and then they went into their speech asking for money anyways! I was told this call was recorded (which I guess I gave implicit concent through not saying no) but how do they even know that I am of age where I can give concent???? The guy was monotone and sounded almost annoyed that he had to be making these calls. There was lots of noise in the background. Even if this call was legit, it was seriously unprofessional and annoying. If they really do need money to help kids, they really need to rethink their fundraising practices.

Just received a call from 4168487843, calling from a charity on behalf of the police blah, blah, blah. asked him how do I really know how you are?
He said I can go to their website. I told him that means nothing.
He said I can call a phone number an listen to a recorded message.
I then again said that doesn't really mean you are who you say you are.
He then hung up. I tried calling the number back a number of times, receive busy signal.

Very fishy, if it is a legit charity, they would have no problem giving me a phone number to call back and confirm who they were.

3:20 pm

Called to an unlisted number which is kept very private. Some telemarketer asking for "money for the 'cops for kids' program". It's probably a scam, but they hung up before I could get any more information.

They had my last name AND pronounced it correctly.
