I advertised a HOUSE for sale on Craigslist.org. This is a COMPANY inquired about buying my house. Asked on a scale of 1-10 how motivated I was to sell, how much I owed on the house and my name. Maybe a SCAMMER...?  Supposedly a guy named JOSH ROY (???) will contact me. I would recommend NOT giving them ANY information.

I also received a call after posting a home for sale on Craig's List.  They said they work with all sorts of clients who want to buy houses and wanted to know more about the house, how motivated (1-10) I am to sell and how much we owe on it.  I said it was none of his business and he said it is public record so my telling him would just save him time of checking it.  Actually, mortgages are public, but the current amount due is not.  He got huffy when I refused and said if I changed my mind to call back.  I don't know if it was a jerk who wants to take advantage of people in foreclosure or if it is worse than that.

Received this call answered the questions you all are so leery of, and my house sold after 4 months of having it on the market to the investor they said they were working with! It is actually a great service, some people are just a little paranoid apparently.

There are many ways to make an offer on a house.  The balance owed is one factor necessary t know whether it is even worth making an offer on a house.  How much is owed on the house is a critical factor these days when some mortgages are much higher than the market value of the house.  It sounds like this buyer is an informed buyer, maybe an investor with money for quick sale.  Amount currently owed very much affects the value of a house offer.  They might work with the seller to get the bank to take less than still owed on the mortgage.

Most realtors are unaware of ways to sell quick and don't like to let sellers know there are ways they can make more or save more money, like owner financing, in which YOU make the interest on the loan instead of the bank!  Particularly for sellers who have to sell quickly.  Some buyers have investors who can offer and close in a few days instead of weeks.  But they have to know values.

Just got phone call from 417-799-1695 from "Drew" asking about a property I have listed in the mls, no address, just said property and told me if he was interested in the details he would call me back......very strange individual obviously looking to "pick-up" properties.  Very suspicious!

I received the same call in regards to a FSBO I posted on Craigslist.
He started the same line of questions as listed in the previous posts.
I believe he was trying to find out how DESPERATE I was to sell my home. If I appeared desperate,
then he or they, would swoop in and give me a low-ball offer to see if I would sell for cheap.
When he asked how much I owed on my mortgage, I told him I was not going to tell him. He said he needed to know in order to "develop a strategy."  I said no again and hung up.
I don't know what he is scheming, but it is a scheme. Beware!

After reading a dozen comments I would have to say most of the commenters have a healthy scepticism when contacted out of the blue but the overwhelming majority of the calls from this number have been harmless, poorly performed, cold call marketing from real estate investors.

I'm a real estat agent here in Los Angeles and after placing ads on craigslist I received a call from Heather. What they seem to be from my experince is a company looking to as we say "steal a home". The reason they want to know what you owe on the property is so if it has any equity or if they can get it below market value they will make a cash offer for less than fair market value and get it and resale at higher price. That is why they ask if its listed in the MLS because if it is they don't want to talk to you because you have spoken with an agent.

A girl named Heather just called my cell about an ad for my home on craigslist. Said they wanted to talk to me about my house and that "they" had a cash offer.

Uh-huh...right.

I got a call from them identifying themselves as Z Sales about a criagslist FSBO I had listed. Only this time, they said they were representing a professional realtor, used a name of a more identifyable agent in the county but became biligerent with me when I refused to disclose the information about my loan amount.
Talk about scum. Anyone know if the BBB can address an out of state concern?
Thanks

Got a call from this number- man asked if my house was listed with a realtor or on MLS. I told him it was FSBO- he abruptly hung up. Maybe someone that sells leads for realtors looking for listings. Every Monday morning I get multiple calls from real estate office underlings asking me to list my house.

Same here.  The woman wanted the home address that we posted for sale online.  I think it's a sign of scam.

They called me 2 days ago and didn't leave a message. "Drew" called today from the number and I answered. He asked if my house was still for sale and if it was listed on the MLS. I told him is was not listed yet but would be soon (I'm getting ready to sell my house). He said he was working with an investor that was not interested in dealing with an agent, then he hung up. Hopefully they won't call back again. It sounds like a bottom feeder real estate group.

called 3 times not leaving messages.  I called it back and it was a female telling me her friend was a real estate something and she had some questions.  I answered them as they were just pertaining to our for sale property.  In retrospect I would have asked her more questions, because the exchange kindof left a bad taste in my mouth.  Area code is from Missouri.  My property is in VA.  Weird.

got a call today from them.  be weary of them.  it was a strange phone call.  wanted to know if my house was for sale, then started asking me personal questions, like how much i owe on the house.  why does a potential buyer want to know this. also, said his friend would contact me and make an offer without looking at the house.  don't trust them.
