I use to work for these people for 2 years. They are the biggest scam ever. I tried to find diff jobs but couldnt so I had to do what I could. They make us work from 8 to 3 sometimes 5. Give us scripts to read and memorize. We would have to "chuckle" every 5 words. If not they would write us up and suspend us. 3 days min. We made min wage. If we sold the mags we would get bonuses. 3 orders = $15 4 = $30 5 = $50 so on so on. But in order for us to make any money at all we had to make 3 orders or what they called "Caps". But in order to get orders the customer would have to provide their card number, ex date and sometimes 3 digits on back. They card had to have at least $60 on it. Couldnt except pre paid cards. If we didnt make any sales they would send us home for the rest of the work day. If we didnt make any sales the next work day they would suspend us for the rest of the week. We were given rebuttals for answering questions or statements like "I dont have a debit card." We would have to say "Well I show you here a a customer with a paid in full account from the past." Or "How did you gt my number?" answer "We work with visa master card amex and discover. They are the ones who provided us with your info so thats how you were selected for your shopping spree." Not in exact words I havent worked there for about a year now so I dont remember every word. We were not allowed to tell anybody over the phone that they could cancel. It was a very stressful place to work. They didnt only have the customers fooled. They also have us employees fooled as well. I am so sorry for anyone Ive called. There was this one lady I remember talking to that was going through cancer battles and didnt really have money to buy her some clothes or anything because of all her med bills. I talked to her for a little bit and then ended the call before I got to the mag part of the script. I felt so bad for her it made me chane my mind about working there so thats when I quit like a month later. If you get a call from them tell them You want on the DNCL "DO NOT CALL LIST" They will make DNCL across your name and info and wont call again.

This company is nothing but bad news. They will try to convince u into buying their magazine service will b***s*** payment information. I highly recommend everyone who still goes on this website to file a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission because what they r doing is in fact illegal. Here is their web site link with a discription of proof that this s*** their trying to pull on u is illegal. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1997/05/magazine.shtm By doing this the company will not bother any other victim they choose to harass.
Tara 2010-05-26 23:14:25 Unknown
After a lot of research I have finally figured out a way to shut these people down the FTC has already closed the doors on several other companies that are involved in the same type of dishonest magazine sales scams. You can read all about it here http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1997/05/magazine.shtm. Please everyone that has been scamed by these people go to FTC.org you can file a complaint under the consumer protection tab it only takes a few minuits and if they hear from enough of us mountain are communications will soon be gone. here is some helpful info they will ask you when filing your complaint address 186 Campbell Dr, Sneedville, TN 37869 phone (423) 733-8022 and companies web site mountainareacommunications.com lets shut them down if they don't exist wew on't have to pay them !

how did u cancel ur subcription they're telling me ihave to pay a bunch of money any helpwould be appreciated thanx ryan
l 2009-12-21 06:33:23 Unknown
thats what i did, but someone from there "payment center" called me and told me that if i didn't give them my new number that they would contact their attorney and that I would be sued for refusing to pay, even though i have received any magazines or gift cards. this whole thing started in October. They also said that they have proof that I got the magazines because the post office scans the bar code, but that is definitely false cause i have received nothing.
Brittany 2009-11-19 03:37:34 Unknown
yea they told me the same thing... heres what u do .cancel out ur checking and savings account so they cant get to it and have ur bank get u a new debit / credit card.if u close it down then they cant get to ur money.and they wont know ur new account numbers or anything.thats what i had to do

Anyone who is still getting called by those F**kers and anyone else who wants to join a good cause do me a favor and voice your complaints at http://mtareacommunications.com/ that way you can skip the bi*chy talks with those sl*ts at the company and add credibility to your complaints. If you go to this site it'll back up eveything we've been saying. These red neck f**king sons of b*tchs don't even have any useful info on the site. their layout is crappy and they have a non existant magazine list. Looking at this site makes me happy I boned the living sh*t out of them legaly. Though if anyone has the time and skill, feel free to hack their another website of theirs at http://www.mountainareacommunications.com/ Those who are not so computer savy, call your state's attorny general, the Federal Trade Commision, The Better Buisness Buero, The FBI, and your local sheriff to give these f**kers such a puckered a** hole when they get done with you that their company will get what it deserves. Remember they've tapped out before so they sure as f**k have the ability to do it again. I'm not just calling for those unfortunate people who were scammed to help out the cause, i'm calling for every single person who supports websites like this and generally want to bring justice to the world. I leave you proud people who will hopefully join me in my fight to kill this blood thirsty company with a few quotes.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.
Thou shalt not be a victim. Thou shalt not be a perpetrator. Above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.
You just need to be a flea against injustice. Enough committed fleas biting strategically can make even the biggest dog uncomfortable and transform even the biggest nation.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
One last time I plead, I ask, hell, I demand that everyone who even sympathises alittle with this message to join my fight. This isn't a cause anymore, it's a FU*CKING WAR!!!
p.s. I dare you f*ckers at Mountain area communications to repond, I f**king dare you. If one of you inbred, yellow teethed, r*t*rded mother F**kers reads, print it off and bring it to your buisness the next day and post it on the wall. This is the start of a revolution, a begining of the end. Do me a favor and repond, unless your just as cowardly and pathetic as you were when you pissed yourself and cancelled my account out of fear of what I would do next

If you want some revenge on them, please tell me any loop holes there are to breaking the deal and freeing me from the contract. They falsly told me it was a visa gift card and did not metion anything about the actual site it pertains too. they also garenteed me 60 months of service for $19.95 a moth for 20 months, yet on the statement they sent me is specifically states, NO CONTRACT and says I will only recieve magazines for 48 months.

My brother answered this call and it was the same thing you said. He didn't give any info but I am still worried.

Mess with the military? Scam? LOL
People need to lighten up, this is a legitemate business selling a legitemate service, helping out people who can use help in hard economic times.
You buy things with your card. Your card company keeps track of this. If you are prone to buying things, your name will be given to this company because you are then qualified to get your 500 dollar shopping spree, along with any 6 magazines of your choice for $3.85 a week. That's pretty cheap, and for people who read magazines, it helps out a lot.
If you don't want the service, don't buy it, but that doesn't mean they scam you or rip you off.
I am a former employee, haven't been there in a long time, but they are good people doing their jobs by offering a good service to people who can benefit from it.

Told me I won $500 for setting up my bank account. I gave them my debit card info. Then they started charging my for magazines. Nothing was ever said about magazines during the phone call and they said my card would not be charged.

They most likely got your information from some internet solicitation company. I got reward points on Mafia Wars, a myspace game for submitting my info and gave them my Government Cell phone number. Today they called and hung up when I answered with my title, which contains the word "Officer." I called back and no answer. Then I called back from my personal cell phone and they started with their pitch about $500 free something or other. I told them they shouldn't call my government phone lying and saying my credit card company gave them the number and they should just delete my record from their system. She said they couldn't and I suggested she go to her scam boss, and his scam boss if necessary and have them delete it. She acted appauled that a US Goverment employee would speak that way and hung up. See what happens when you mess with the Military?

I got a call from these people early in the morning. I actually gave them a CC number but now I am afraid that I have been scammed. Does anyone know more about this as I am now a bit scared of the consequences. I am elderly and now I believe that I have been scammed.
Please anyone with information on this company, help me determine if I have been scammed.

They called me at 8:45 at night with a loud party it sounded like in the background (I head laughter) and then they told me I won a $500 online shopping spree. They knew my home address (they called my cell phone which is under a friends name) and wanted to know if I would like SIXTEEN different magazines and all I had to pay was shipping and handling.
They tried saying that my credit card company gave the number to them. They couldn't tell me if I had a Visa or Mastercard, so I lied and said the opposite of what I had, gave them the wrong age and then told them to get rid of my info or I would call the police. If you're going to scam people, wouldn't you at least try to block their number?
The number they called from was 423-317-9049 but under the same Mountain Area Communications name as the one above. Call the main office and no one ever answers...
Also, a reverse number search shows that the number comes up as a private residence. Go figure. What kind of company would have a residential phone number? A not-so-smart con-artist.

I received calls from this area code several times this month. The first six digits were the same "423-733", but each time they called, the last four numbers were different.
alison 2008-01-04 16:23:48 Unknown
this number called twice, and I've recently received similar abuse from another number, that one a Tampa, FL based number. I googled it and found "Mountain Area Communications" based in Sneedville, TN.

every other day i get a call from this number or another number similar to this one. has anyone ever answered to see who it is? I don't pick up when I don't know a number either. I just got a new phone from Alltel, and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. It's starting to tick me off.
Lori 2007-11-06 18:49:02 Unknown
This is now the third number today I've reported. This one has called me twice in 5 minutes. I'm getting sick and tired of this. If this keeps up I'm having my number changed.
