They did use their real caller ID and I don't believe the phone number was spoofed. We didn't answer but I've now blocked them. Unfortunately, even with the DNC list, non-profits and political calls are exempt from the law. And of course if someone is spoofing their"originating" phone number you can't catch them. So I don't know who GMA was calling on behalf of, since they have commercial, business and non-profit clients. My guess is it was non-profit because this seems to be a legitimate company and there's that loophole again ....

So far my local blocking list is 172 and still counting. I sometimes forward persistent calls to the FCC. Here's their main number:

You can also complain online if someone is stupid enough to keep using the same number, or it's the same organization pestering you. The online form is easy to use and very user-friendly -- I do it when my patience finally wears thin:

2/17/11 Got call from this number, no message left.  Got call earlier today from 425-460-8809 which is likely related.  Internet says this originates from Beaux Arts, Washington, around Seattle.

It's a survey about Alaska.
