My Mother got a call from this number. Claimed to be her granddaughter...who had flown to Dominican Republic to help a friend. The caller -- pretending to my Mom's granddaughter -- said she was involved in a car accident and needed money to fix the car, buy a plane ticket and, too, pay the hospital for treating her broken nose (resulting from the alleged accident). That?s why her voice might sound a little different. This imposter told my Mom she needed the money in the next hour and wanted her to withdraw several thousand dollars and wire it to the Dominican Republic via Western Union. After the first call, the imposter called back -- again, claiming to be my Mom's granddaughter -- saying she had missed her flight and now needed MORE money to catch the next flight out. The name "Andrea Zapata" was also used during this call -- as the one to wire the money to. PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS SCAM!! These people are professionals and are very, very convincing. Emotions overrule our logic..and their goal was to create a sense of panic / urgency. Sad to say, my Mom has learned the hard way.
