My mother received a phone call from Ron Stein, posed as lawyer for American Embassy in Ecuador, He said that my nephew was in Ecuador and was found with 1 ounce of marijuana in car while he was with his friends. Person impersonated my nephew and said that he was in Ecuador for wedding of best friend and needed help. Mr Stein wanted $1750.00, via Moneygram to get out of jail. I took the phone from my mother (who is 84 yr old) and questioned why he was being charged, since Ecudor has deciminalized for Marijuana possession under 10 gms.  Mr Stein then said that he needed the money so he could go to court. I asked to speak with someone at American Embassy, verify his identity. He tried to discourage me from calling embassy stating that was where he was calling from.  I said that I needed someone to verify his identity.  He then became outraged, said I was raising my voice to him and I could not do anything to him and was only trying to help my relative. I said I would not send any money until I could verify his identity and authenticity and hung up. I called my nephew and he was not in Ecudor and did not know anything about this.  If I had not been there when my mother received the call, she may have given him the money.  Scary.

Ron Stein wanted $2745- immediately wired to Ecuador as some type of bail.
Mr. Stein claims to be working as some type of legal subcontractor for the US embassy in Ecuador.
My mother would have sent the money, but I refused to go along with the scheme.
Mr.Stein had someone on the line pretending to be my nephew.
Same 438 area code as above.
Mr .Stein needs to be put in jail.

Call from some one posing as a relative.   Taxi they were riding in was pulled over by police for
driver's license expired and drug found in trunk.  Relative was taken into custody and given
drug test which was negative but needed money wired so he could get a court appearance
same day so not to miss flight home.   Ron Stein, (name given as American Embassy lawyer helping]
to expedite hearing).   Call supposed coming from Lima, Peru.   When asked for Embassy number
so I could call back, the call was disconnedted.   If ourse not money was sent.  BEWARE, this is
a total scam.    No number showed up on caller ID; Only "Private Caller".

got a call from person claiming to be brother crying said he was in jail in Quebec pass off to a man said he was appointed lawyer said brother was in collision charged with impaired blow .09 need $1900.00 bail money

SCAM SCAM!!!  No money was sent by us.  BEWARE
