What the hell is this???

After two "hello's there was still silence.  Spent 50 cents dialing *69 to find out!

Call picked up by anwering machine...  Breathing and some words whispered.  Couldn't make out what was said though.

Got a call from the same number as others in this post:   440-249-5072, St. Anthony ME

They did not leave a message.   I thought might be my sister, whose husband is in the hospital in Maine (ME)

Called the number but now answer.   They did not leave a message either.

I see the white pages, directory assistance,  are publishing not only names & phone # but they are including ages of the people listed. I know a woman who has never used her first name in banking  or filing important papers. She now uses her first name on her Medicare, required,  no other place, She still has her middle name on her insurance supplement.Her middle name along with her husband is listed in their regular Ph directory while  White page directory on the internet   has  changed to her first name   Her middle name which she always used and people know her by is listed without her husband, same address with  age 35. Guess they think that is a daughter. I think they are trying to help scammers get to the old folks. I wonder who is selling this information. Could the SS office be providing this info???  When they are wanting money  now they always call her by her Medicare name!!( first name) She said they are calling a lot and before this they hardly got any calls after they signed up on the no call list! So if you are looking for someone and check the white pages go ahead and try the number if their mate has a wrong name. I have lived all my life on my middle name and someday I can easily loose all my friends who will never find me and chat with some scammer.

I had a call from this number also & when they ask if this is ~~~ I said who is this. She didn't ask again for my name. As soon as she said what she wanted I just hung up. I absolutely will not donate to anyone on the phone unless I know them personally.Including the police Hi-Way Patrol & Sheriffs fund!! They  get smart mouthed also!!

But who knows what I will do when I get alone and lonely!!

Can't something be done about these harrassing pathetic calls? We reported this in November 2007, and yet no resolutions to date. Who can we report these annoying phone calls to and expect to get results? We received a called from this same St. Anthony's yesterday. Apparently the person on the other line didn't want to speak. They just sat and attempted to whistled a "song", even after I said Hello twice. It's a no brainer that just hanging up the phone doesn't stop them from calling in the future.

I've recieved calls from these guys before, they're wanting you to subscribe to there magazine.  Both time I've talked to someone, they've been really friendly though, so I'm surprised to hear that people had rude people from there.  Yes, they are a Catholic organization.  The magazine is legit (I've seen it), but I cannot verify the 100% going to seminarians...my hope is that they are truly christian and not lying about that or aren't covering anything up.  They have called on several occasions too and left hang up messages, which can get annoying.  I too am on the do not call list, but non-profits are exempt from that.  My advise, just ignore...or tell them to remove you from their list...unless you want to subscribe to their magazine.  No matter what, I always tell unsolicited callers that I do not agree to ANYTHING over the phone.

I do not answer numbers I do not recognize.  Blowing a whistle in the phone if they call again stops them! Rude, but who cares.  So are They!

i just rec'd a call from this same number just a few minutes ago.  I didn't answer it...Thank goodness for caller ID. I agree, probably a scam just like the email I rec'd from someone in Zimbabwe Africa indicating that I had won something and "all they needed was my name, address and phone number" hah!

Called twice but left no message.called back and nobody answered

Several calls from the number this week while I was out. No message...

My husband got a call from this number from a woman who wouldn't speak to him but insisted she talk to me.  I was out.  Thinking it was important I used the numbers to get the "last call".  I am so glad I checked this out.  Sounds like a scam to me.

Received call but wasn't home. They left no message. Was concerned about the name on caller id so I googled it. Now it seems like another scam.

Got a call from this number yesterday, no message left on the machine.  I *may* have answered it had I been home thinking it was a hospital or some such.

Received a call this morning from a man whom spoke with a hispanic accent. The first question he asked was "Is this ----?". I only answered with "and to whom am I speaking?". He replied by saying he is calling on behalf of St. Anthony's. He again asked, "Is this ----?" I did not provide any recognition as to whether that is my name or not. I only replied with the fact that I am not interested in anything he has to say, and hung up. My advice is to NEVER say yes or no if someone calls and the first thing they ask is your name, or if it's your name. Otherwise you may be saying yes to something that binds you to giving money. THE NUMBER ON CALLER I.D. WAS: 440-249-5072.

My elderly mother rcvd a call for me from a woman who did not identify the reason for the call and asked for me by my full name.  When my Mom said I was not home, the person hung up abrubtly.  My caller ID name reads: ST ANTHONY ME. and showed call was from 440-249-5072

Got my 2nd call from these folks today.  The first time they called me, I asked what % goes to the charity- something I always ask- the caller said 100% goes to the seminarians.  I have not investigated if they're on the up and up.  Seemed fishy, we're not a Catholic family.

Got a call from this number this morning. The message freaked the kids as whoever was on the other end was a "breather", as they're called in the industry. I found, after a little googling, their address in Ohio. I haven't had a call from a telemarketer quite like this.
