In my case this was a legitimate call. They were calling on behalf of Mass General Hospital to do a customer satisfaction survey on a specific neurosurgeon I've been seeing. I told them it would be better if we waited until I completed my present interactions with him and they agreed to call me back in a few weeks.

Phil,
I understand your feelings. My husband's ordeal with surgeries and prescription meds that made him very ill. Luckily we have a general practitioner who is very open minded and has gotten my husband off many of the mad meds other docs put him on in the hospital. Lot's of tears and heart aches shared by both my husband and I. Thankfully the storm has passed and his health is improving.
As for the phone calls, every time my husband had a hospital stay we'd get the calls claiming to be some sort of quality control group improving health care. I answered only one a year ago and never will again. They will ask you way too many questions that require personal information (they wanted my husband's social security number). My husband nor I will ever offer that information over the phone to just somebody.
I find it comical, more like pathetic, that these third party survey takers claim this is supposed to improve healthcare. Sorry, but hospitals are major profit making entities. They can make all the mistakes they want, blame the patient, blame the loved ones of the patient for their mistakes and ignorance. But their never in the wrong like they want you to believe.
With the state of our nations healthcare going further down the tubes, medical institutions abusing Medicare along with our nations economy striking more and more sour notes, where will it lead us?
A word to the wise: If you happen to get one of these so called survey agencies calling you just ignore them. Don't offer any information to them. Furnishing the caller with personal information is NOT going to benefit you or anybody else except for the caller getting your personal data.

This is a live person and it is a legitimate call. Twice per year my wife sees a doctor at a local hospital and within two weeks, we get this call to critique the entire patient experience from the website, getting an appointment, wait time, quality of doctor, etc.
Phil 2013-03-16 02:01:25 Survey
My father recently spent two rotten weeks in a hospital. It not only sucked for my poor father, but it sucked for the rest of us knowing of all the errors going on with my father's treatments. It's pretty sad when there's virtually no continuity between doctor to doctors, to doctor to nurses, to doctors to nurses to patient to patient's family. ARRRRRGH! I'm just thankful my father made it out alive, spending 3 days in a virtual coma from a really bad drug side effect they gave my Dad, the 15 pounds that he lost and a bad pressure sore on his right buttocks. Hospitals SUCK! There's no other way of putting it!
Now I'm supposed to answer some superfluous survey for who's benefit? So some caller can validate personal information. Forget it! And how are these so-called surveys going to impact improving the quality of care of those mega profit generating medical institutions?
Stop calling me you jerkoffs!
Anti Telemarketer 2013-03-14 19:49:24 Survey
Every time someone in my family has had the misfortune of being admitted to a hospital, we get socked with the persistent calls. The calls are supposedly from some independent survey group wanting to tally the pros and cons of one's hospital stay. I never answer the calls, nor has anyone else in my family honored the calls as well. When you are required to issue personal information with these calls, then I see the red flags immediately. Just ignore the dang calls and they'll eventually stop after a few weeks.

Its a survey concerning medical treatment. They called, knew my doctor's full name and date of service so I think it is legitimate. They don't ask for personal info other than at the end, they do ask for race, education level. Gave me an opportunity to complain about appointment time not being on time. But what else is new with doctors these days?
Fed up 2012-08-13 21:24:58 Unknown
Frequent calls. No message. Silence and hang up when I answer. Very annoying. I have not used medical services so it cannot be for medical service.
mashedpotato 2012-08-11 04:43:56 Unknown
They call on behalf of any hospital or doctor you recently did business with. They conduct a survey on your treatment. They haven't asked for any personal data and they did leave a msg stating they would call back in the near future. They called back 3 days later and took up 10 minutes of my time. No compalints. End of story.
Mark 2012-06-14 20:40:21 Unknown
The University of California health care system DOES employ an outside company for this. UCLA even told me before the procedure that someone might be calling me to in a couple weeks to do the survey and they encouraged me to take it. That said, it was a tedious automated survey and I hung up a couple minutes into it. They didn't ask for any personal information. They were asking questions about stuff like how long I had to wait to get an appointment.
Mark 2012-06-14 20:30:23 Survey
This is not a scam or a telemarketer. I had a medical procedure at UCLA and I was told by UCLA that a company whose services they employ might call me in a couple weeks to get feedback on my experience (how long did I have to wait in the waiting room, if the staff were friendly, etc...). UCLA encouraged me to take the survey because, they said, it would help them to improve their care. This was the call for the survey. That said, the survey was automated and tedious. I hung up a couple minutes into it.
They are not cold-calling people at random. They are calling at the instruction of your doctor's office, providing a service for your doctor's office. If you do not like this, complain to your doctor's office.
