A *69 indicated that this is the number that just called me and failed to leave a message on my VM.

I have been getting calls from this number during the day but they don't leave a message. One day i was at home and when i answered they hung up.  This has been going on for weeks now, almost daily.

They have been calling couple times every day for many weeks.Never say anything then hang up.  Today, they call again, finally talk to me.  It is Direct Energy, she know my name, selling energy contract, offer to send me the paper, I can cancel within 10 days.  I am in Canada, why she calls from the USA.  How safe is our energy account?

yes they called and I called back after reading the above. WOW, this is a VERY handy website. thanks to all. Yes I had them put me on the do not call list - natural gas providers from the US that sell the upper states and canada.

I just got the call, they say they are Direct Energy and wanted to secure rates for me.  The thing that tipped me off that this might be a scam of some sort is the person asked me to get a copy of my bill.  If your from direct energy you should already have this info, no?  I called Direct Energy and they could not confirm if it was someone from there company.  But the girl did say they would never ask a customer to get their last invoice.

they have called every morning at 9 for a week! I answer and they hang up!
Grrr! Is it a scam to get everyone to dial *69 or do they expect us to pay long distance to call them and yell at them?I dont subscribe to caller id so maybe its bell canada trying to get us to want it??? I think its time to call in the fraud department somewhere? lol

Call keeps coming in.  Usually in the morning.  No response when answered.  Don't know who but suspect an energy marketeer like Direct Energy.

Answered a call from this number today (this is at least the third time they've called me). Claimed they were from Direct Energy and were trying to sell me a locked in electricity rate and had a big speech about Stephen Harper saying rates are going up. He then said he would hold on the line while I went to get an electricity bill. Nice try loser. I don't give out ANY personal info over the phone - especially to suspicious characters who call me. And neither should anybody else. Told them I wasn't interested and to remove my number from their call list. We'll see if it actually happens.

The woman asked, "I'd like to speak to the person in your home who handles the natural gas account.".  I since hung up

Got a call on my cell phone from this number! I told them it was my cellphone and was paying long distance but they STILL tried to sell me something! I hate these solicitations!

I too got a call from this number. Here's the problem. With the voip technology out, anyone can alter what will appear on the call display. So company X (or someone wanting to commit fraud) can attempt to call you for X reason but their call back number is that of a legit company.

I know this because a friend of mine has the number for the Montreal police department with matching name. Another day his display is Superman with a different number.

All in all, you can Blame the phone book for publishing your number to the world and Canada for not having sufficient laws to protect our number.

Let alone the fact that we have to PAY to be REMOVED from the phone book.

I have gotten a few calls from this number. Never anyone there though.

I've been getting calls from this number numerous times regarding overpaying on credit cards. Fortunately, my answering machine picks up but I'm unable to press the #3 to stop the calls.

Just rec'd a call from this number, as soon as I picked up they hung up -- as usual!!!  Very annoying -- this is the second time they've called my number.

This just happened to me. I've told them time and time again that I'm not interested both over the phone and when they come to my door. I wonder how they got my cellphone number and not my house number?

As well, hanging up on a person is a poor business practice, especially when they're the ones making the call.

Got a call from this number twice yesterday and once today.  No one answered.  Did a Canada411 on the number and it is showing an AZ (Arizona) area code number.

I received a call from this number and tracked it to 480.543.1023. I have no idea who this person is. I notice the call is from AZ which is an out of state long distance call.  I wouldn't be surprise if this person is a criminal or ID thief.

Repeated calls with this moniker.  Hang up when answered.  Assuming it is an automated call... but, for what purpose?
Is this a marketing data gathering to determine when someone is home or is not?  Isn't there a security risk in determining when residents are not home?

After reading this and having this number call me a few times, I called back.
Its the "energy group" aka direct energy and the lady at the other end said this is likey a offering they have going out for natual gas price protection.

I took their first call. They identified themselves as Direct Energy, and offered me a natural gas price protection plan. When I said I was not interested, they started reading some article about deregulation of the hydro industry in Ontario to me. Continued to call me.

If you call the number back, it's some company trying to offer energy and gas rates, I was put on the DNC list... you should all do the same

Its from direct energy, they call to sell you a capped rate on your gas that enbridge(or whoever) is providing you. they call like 2-3 times a day....

Call the number and ask to be added to the Do Not Call list.
It is that easy, but such a shame we have to stop our busy days to do so.

Since we changed our phone service provider I get called by this number at least 1 time a day.  What kills me, is if it is Direct Energy, why the hell are they never replying on the other end, especially if I am already a customer of theirs??  They never leave a message.  I have called back the number and they didn't say it was direct energy but "the energy group".. they told me they will have all calls stopped after 24 hours.. let us see if this works
