I recived a call on April 1, 2008 at 3:00am. I did not answer the phone and they did not leave a message. The caller ID read Vesta Corp 503-734-1699. What kind of company calls someone  at 3:00am? Do they just do it for the heck of it?

That is Vesta Corp.  They take automated payments to top up prepaid cell phones.  BEWARE of them.  My cousin had an AT&T prepaid phone.  He no longer uses the phone but has owed them $54 and some change for the last year.  I paid it using a check from MY account and since then they have automatically deducted $54 from my account twice (both during the same statement period so I didn't catch it after the first one).  I went to my bank and signed an affidavit stating that I did not authorize the ACH deductions.  They said they will investigate and I should have my money back in 2-3 days.  We'll see.

That phone # is a Boost Mobile Representative from a Payment Authorization center. I have great concerns. I signed up for a prepaid account and when I went to make my first recharge to this new phone for $100. I was requested to give the usual  (credit card #, exp date, security code, name, zip code) Basic information you would use to process a credit card transaction BUT.... in addition to this the rep on the phone asked for the last 4 digits of my ss#. I didn't provide it and opted to go online to my Boost Mobile account. Again, I was prompted for that information. I provided it on their website and as soon as I clicked "process transaction" I received no verification of a transaction in process. It was odd. I, also, received a note requesting a contact phone for additional verification. The note made mention I would receive a call in the next 60 minutes I did receive a call from the 503-734-1699 number requesting exactly the same information again, by phone. This included the last 4 of my social.  I asked the girl if this was mandatory to complete the transaction as I have never had to give so much personal information for any credit card transaction. I've ordered airline tickets, hotels, I had another pay as you go phone for over 5 years and not once was I asked this sort of information. I, also, work in a business where I process credit card transactions in the 10s of thousand dollar ranges on high profile people and this information just is not required! The rep told me it was for my protection to which I replied giving you every piece of my information you are asking for is everything my bank asks me for when I contact them regarding my account. Frightening. Anyhow.  I located the following contact information and will locate the specific emails for these people to voice my concerns regarding the request of the type of information on a pay as you go account. It is odd.  I, even, inquired about smaller amounts. The same information required. The girl actually laughed at me while I was on the phone with her. I was transferred to the manager, Ray, and he couldn't have shown lesser interest in my concern had the phone been taped to his ear during a nap. I truly hope they record their customer calls because I was very disappointed. My sister signed me up for this account to try something different after 5 years so this was my first experience with this company. If anyone has contact information regarding government or financial institution agencies overseeing these sort of practices regarding what information is deemed required please share them. With online banking statements so readily available and bank security as heightened as it is, I would know if fraud was taking place against my bank immediately. Providing all the following information does not protect anyone. It only exposes them to criminal action that much further:

Name
Home Address
Billing Information
Phone # bank has on file for you
Credit card #
Exp Date
Pin
Last 4 of social security #

And then even with this- still does not process and states will call you in 60 minutes for verification. A call back requesting the SAME INFO BY PHONE!!!! Explain this to me??
