I received the same call yesterday. I do have an account with HSBC and a debit card which got me worried. When I got back home I checked my accounts and there was nothing amiss. Obviously, a scam

Got same call, computerized voice soliciting credit card info on an account I don't even have.  Obvious scam.  The number traces back to the Venezuelan embassy in New Orleans, LA.

I just got called from this phone # at approx 11:48pm EST. I'm in the NY City area.

It was a computerized voice informing me about an HSBC debit card that has been stolen. I do bank at HSBC and have an ATM card with them but no debit card.

To reactivate the debit card I had to follow certain prompts.

Please be very careful whenever getting calls from this phone #.

Called Saturday afternoon . . . automated voice telling me my HSBC card was frozen/compromised . . . I should press #1 for the security department.  Another automated voice told me to enter my 16-digit credit card # . . . I hung up.  When I called the number back an automated message told me it was the
Consulate of Venezuela and gave numbers and an email address.  However, the 504 area code is somewhere in the New Orleans area.

Received call 5/21/11 @ 11:48 am EST on my cell phone,  asking me to activate HSBC Master Card Debit Card.  I do not have any accounts with HSBC. Obviously a scam.  I will notify HSBC. Has anyone else done that?

I received the same automated call as "Pcat" on 05/22 at 5:17 PM EST on my cell. IT IS A SCAM - DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER!

I contacted HSBC/their Bank Card Security Department and was informed that there were no blocks on my Debit MasterCard and that it was "active and good for use." They stated that they are aware of these unsolicited phone calls and believe them to be fraudulent. They strongly recommend that you do not call the number(s) provided or provide any personal information in response. In closing, HSBC advised that they "will not contact customers via phone calls of this nature."

I sort of figured this was the case since I didn't think HSBC had my cell phone number on file and they confirmed this was the case as well.
