I called RBC and expressed my displeasure about my cell number being given to such a hokey set up. Jason Spearing.

Yep there it is Jason Currie same deal from Vancouver phone number 778-383-3383 back in 2011. Same voice same routine, girl asks for a specific name then Jason jumps on the phone....spearing, spearling, currie......I am hunting you now....Jason.......
| upset 2014-01-22 22:45:28 Telemarketer |
Jason, you're back I see. I thought I had got rid of you a few years ago. That was Vancouver remember, so now it's Kitchener / Waterloo area. OK let's see how much of a problem I can create for you. You call , what 4 or 5 times a day, claiming to be with the Royal Bank of Canada. Don't think so! I am guessing Famtel. So tomorrow should be an interesting day for you. Scumbag!

Famtel is a company that specialize in telecommunications marketing. RBC, Royal Band of Canada, is one of the clients that we call on behalf of. RBC hires many companies under contract to promote the products of RBC's choosing. RBC provides these companies with first and last names, phone numbers, and addresses of card holders they wish to have called. No other information is shared with Famtel, but I cannot speak for the other companies.
The products that Famtel may call you about include but are not limited to Info Protector and Credit Alert. Both of these products are linked to on the RBC website, along with the means to get any and all information about these products. As for fear of fraudulence, these are legitimate offers being made, and at no point is any banking or confidential information requested.
The flow of the calls you may receive from Famtel follows this order:
Introduction (Famtel employee informs you who is calling)
Sorter (leads to the product explanation, asks if you have measures to protect yourself from identity theft (Info Protector)/ if you have seen a copy of your credit report recently from either one of the credit bureaus (Credit Alert))
Pitch (the product is now described, questions/concerns are welcome, will tell you that in order for you to begin your free trial you need to verify your first and last name)
Address verification (the welcome packages/ credit report and score are sent by physical mail, Info Protector can be sent to an address not on file if requested, but Credit Alert can only be sent to the address on file as it has confidential/ personal information included)
*Date of Birth (only for Credit Alert as you can not request a credit report for "Name", but need to make sure that it is indeed for the right person, thus the need for a DoB)
Enroll (here the product is recapped and you are asked to give your permission to start your service in the product you are being called for)
*Enroll 2 (only for Credit Alert, asked for you permission for the provider of Credit Alert, being Intersections Inc., to obtain a copy of your credit report for your review, which is an automated process so that your information remains private and confidential)
End (you are thanked for you time, welcomed to the service, and the call promptly ends)
Personally, I am genuinely surprised that none of your concerns have been previously addressed by either an employee of RBC or Famtel, and for that I do apologize. Hopefully this helps to clear up some the the confusion, and if you should have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to ask.

Also received numerous calls from this number and also 1-705-797-2495 as well. They have tried both a young girls voice asking for my son and also a young males voice making it sound like they are one of his friends. I interrupted this Jason Spearing and told him that this was a scam and take my number and my sons name off of his list. I heard a back ground voice say yes mamme.

Received a call, our second, from this number stating they are phoning on behalf of RBC for an "Infoprotect" service. This is fraud.

in addition to my previous message, this number is also connected to 1-705-797-2495. the same recorded message is played.
TOTALLY BOGUS.

i recieved a call from this number, but did not answer. i called the number back, and curiously enough, i encountered an automated message identical to one at 1-204-289-0964. apparently this company is called "famtel" and claims to be contracted by various insurance, banking, insurance, and marketing companies to contact clients.
i strongly suspect this is a bogus operation.
**RBC always calls it's clients directly.

Received the same message today. As we have been victims of serious fraud and identity theft we check out everything. The number given by caller to phone back is the RBC link. However, no Jason Spearing is there and cannot be found. And the call display number led me to this site. I can only conclude: give out NO information if you receive a call from this number...and get call display so you can check.

I got the same scenario as Banana. Call was allegedly from RBC, the woman just read my name, when I said yes, a guy named Jason Spearing started reading a script about credit card protection on internet etc.- he really sounded like a a machine/robot, he would stop when I asked questions, but the replies were all the same - so it's either an advanced machine or a very bored person. Did't give any info (though they have my name).

Lady asked to speak to me, then when I said that's me, a guy started speaking. Said he's calling about a "card protector" service. That if I spell out my full name and give him my info that for 30-day trial period I will be protected from my information being misused. He claimed to be calling on behalf of royal bank.

Called my cell too on a Saturday morning. When I answered I heard what seemed like a woman's voice about to say "hello", but didn't finish. Silence after that.
