Debt Collector
Got a call on voice mail looking for Jose Sanchez.  Said they were from CRM I believe but no indication what it was regarding.   Just for reference, I've had bill collectors calling me for years looking for this guy so I suspect its a debt collection service using any tactic necessary

You might want to actually answer this call. In my case, the IRS received a payment for taxes and had to verify that it was supposed to be applied to my account (two last names).

They call three or four times back to back and leave no message...just a steady beep signal.  When you call the number back you get the "number is out of service" so someone is just spoofing a number ttrying to get your personal info.  No message-no callback.

So I took the advised of Disclosure and dialed 559-454-6002 the lady I spoke to indicated that she was with the IRS, so I asked about the 559-454-6000 number, she indicated that it is not a number associated with the IRS, and that a number would not show up on a caller ID rather it would say Federal Government.  I asked her if she would also assume that the number is fraudulent and she said yes.  She indicated too that in very rare cases would the IRS call, but they would leave a message.  There has never been a message left on either my home or cell number.  Also in my opinion if it is the IRS, then why would they ask me for my SSN and DOB as they already have the information?  I would request that they be the ones to verify it.

Are you kidding me? Of course it is a scam! They called me about tax return on Saturday night. I am not supposed to get any tax return. The guy with a thick accent started asking what street I am living on and so on. I asked to provide their phone number, he said they will mail me the information instead. No need to say that the number from caller id was unavailable.

559-454 is an exchange dedicated to the IRS Fresno Campus.  The 559-454-6000 number that pops up will not make contact - it's just a general number that caller ID returns by nature of the way the IRS phone switch handles it.  All 559-454-XXXX numbers go to various IRS functions (try a random extension)

Most IRS employees handle inbound calls only but on rare occasions they may make outbound contact as a last resort (before sending a letter).  Due to the nature of IRS work they will try to validate your identity first due to strict disclosure laws in the Code.  These employees are usually basic tax examiners trying to resolve problems with processing returns or your account.

You may ask for a direct callback number and voice identity theft concerns; they should provide one without issue.  As for validating their identity you may obtain their name and call the IRS (800-829-1040) and verify they are IRS and are assigned to your account.  Then simply call them back or resolve it with the IRS employee you contacted on the phone.

I would not advise to abruptly refuse working with them at all; they are usually trying to resolve an issue that may have been sitting too long as they have time requirements to respond.  If you absolutely feel uncomfortable divulging information just do the verification procedure above.  You can also ask for a letter but resolution of any problem is significantly delayed.

The individual named Philip stated my tax return could not be processed because the IRS had no data in their system regarding my account and needed my SS number. I told the individual to never call again and hung up. It concerned me because my check to the IRS has not cleared my bank after 6 weeks. When I Called the IRS they could not take my call today. I tried to call the scam number and only got a beep-beep; no answer. This concerns me that some older people may recieve the call and provide information that will drain them of their hard earned money.
