Its not scammers. It's the university's non-profit call center, the Beach Fund. Yes, they are looking for donations. But no, its not a scam. They are who they say they are.

Its illegal for the school to share your number. It must be a program within the university calling. If anything else got your number, it couldn't have been through CSULB.

Again they call at 11:44PM.  What don't they get that the 305 area code is FL.

I called trying to get my number off the contact list. Since an active student has my number listed with their contact info, I am unable to get my number removed. That student has to give permission for it to be removed because of emergency contact purposes. It sucks but what can you do.

So this is what the kind lady on the phone explained to me:
This is the number that shows up on caller ID. It is from any department on the CSULB campus that contacts you. If your number has ever been provided to the University, this is how they will contact you. Most of the time it's the Alumni Association or Beach Fund looking for donations. Unfortunately, there's no way to figure out which department has been contacting you.

Please keep in mind that even though you may have never attended and you may have never been associated with the University that:

1. Phone numbers get reassigned/recycled and it's now yours
2. Someone may have provided the incorrect phone number that just happens to be yours

It really isn't that hard to ignore a phone call. You can even put the number on your own little block list that your phone provides.

I now live in the FL Keys and my 305 area code should indicate this to them.  They send mail to my FL address so the records are up to date.  They called me at 10:49 pm my time.  When I pointed out that it was almost 11 o'clock I was told "no, it's only 7:30."

Way to go Dirtbags!

Its the # for the CSULB Alumni donation line. Basically, they want your $$$$. However, calling me in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday is a HELL-F***-NO-WAY from me...

CSULB looking for donations. I have work early in the morning and I think it's rude for them to call at 8:30pm in the middle of the week. I tried to be nice at first, but the lady kept going on and on about what's going on with the school now and how I should stop by and see the new buildings. What do I care? I'm not a student anymore. I might have considered donating money if they sent me something in the mail. They are not getting any money from me with these annoying phone calls.

I agree. The school needs to back off of people who do not care to answer their calls.  I usually hang up on them and or let it go to voicemail and nothing is left on voicemail.  After that, I have not gotten a call from that number; however, the school sold my # to harassing callers and I have to do the same thing as well, which is hang up the phone.

I have gotten several missed calls from this phone number as well. I had no idea who it was so I never answered it. One Sunday at 7:00pm I randomly answered it and it was a live person on the phone asking to speak to my parents. I asked what it was regarding and they mentioned something about the Beach Fund. I chuckled out of how ridiculous it was that they were calling me at 7:00pm on a Sunday, not to mention the fact that I am 26 years old and not even living with my parents anymore! I told them such and they apologized and said they would make note of it. I looked up the number and found that the call was coming from the main CSULB switchboard. As well, I checked my phone records and found that I had three missed calls from them in total, all of which were on a Saturday or Sunday when CSULB offices aren't even open. The last thing I want is CSULB calling my parents, who aren't even contributing to my education expenses, on a Sunday and asking them for money. I think it's slightly unethical and an abuse of information for CSULB to be using my personal information to ask for donations and much less to try and solicit those donations through my parents?! Uncalled for.

Rec'd call from 5629854111 at 11:45pm...yes pm. Caller ID just said "California Stat"...I guess that's all the room on the display. Why are they calling me three thousand miles away? at that time on night? ...BTW, did I mention it was Sunday night? Have to get up at 5am, so I was a little bent out of shape and no, I didn't get back to sleep. Would love to know how they got my number and if they knew when their auto-dialer called. I'm sure someone had to program it.
BTW, thanks to all of you who report phone numbers....especially the rude, crude and annoying. Thanks too, to this very useful website and forum!

These calls suck and I have nothing to do with the  University==These a** holes should find something better to do than bother the public, and the public should stop answering these turds and the calls will stop.

I've had three missed calls from this number within the past 30 days.  No voicemail is left and when I call back it is the main line for CSULB and is automated. Their offices close at 5pm so it must be automated. All the missed calls occurred after 6:30pm.

This is a legitimate number that is a catch-all from the csulb campus. I received a call from the bookstore letting me know that my order was in.

This outgoing number (562)985-4111 is from any CSULB phone line from campus.  It may be an event call, a Beach Fund call, or even from enrollment services/financial aid.  The Beach Fund does not leave messages, since the goal of the call is to have an immediate brief conversation, so the sooner your pick up, the sooner the calls will end.

Calls are from CSULB looking for donations. First asked for $25k and I told him that's not possible so then his next request was for $2,500. I asked that he remove our number from the call list. We'll see how that goes.

There was a weird noise on the other end, then nothing.

This is the automated "emergency alert"  from CSULB.  It is annoying, but harmless.  Most likely you have given your number as your CSULB contact number.  The system is occasionally tested, but if you are getting random calls without a recorded message then it is probably a misfire and no more than a hassle.  At least you now know what it is.  I get  it too...  it sucks, but it is harmless.

You can always dig in to the bureaucracy and try to get your number removed.  Let me know how that works out....

I also received a call from this number. Makes sense that it would be CSULB since I'm a student there, but it's really annoying because the message it left this time was a really long song...??

I'm an alumni, and I got a call too. I knew it was a CSULB number though (the 985 part gives it away) so I didn't pick up on purpose. I figure if it was important, than they would leave a message.

I keep receiving calls from this number to my house number lately. I dont answer though and they dont leave a messege. I figure if it was important they would leave a messege and/or call my cellphone number aswell. I did answer a call from school once, not sure if it was the same number but it was on a Sunday which i found strange but stranger was them looking for my parents. I told my friend once and he said its probably them asking for donation which is another reason i dont answer calls from school anymore.
