I received about 4 messages over a couple week time frame from Giselle Brown, who had a very thick English accent I think, asking me to call this number about a legal action being taken against me. She said she was with the Department of Legal Affairs with the U.S. Treasury representing the IRS for back taxes. I called them back today and spoke to Daniel Rich, who was extremely hard to understand with a very thick Indian accent.  He said I had to pay $500 today or there would be a federal warrant issued for my arrest, along with my license being suspended, and about 4 other things. They wouldn't accept a credit card over the phone, but they would take a debit card, weird, wouldn't take a certified check, and really wanted me to go buy a green dot card, but he explained it as a voucher that the IRS releases to certain stores as a way to pay your taxes. Once I bought it I was supposed to call him back and give him the something number for him to access the money and stop the warrant from being issued, along with all the other threats. Once I challenged him with some of the things that didn't make sense, he became rude and hung up. I called the FCC, my local police and news channels, the FTC, and about 3 other federal agencies and reported the scam. About 5 hours after I talked to him, I called back and said I know this is a scam and you've been reported and all that, I realized it was a different man with a different accent, but he said he was Daniel Rich. When I wouldn't give him my name and kinda laughed at him, he hung up on me. Also, I had a probation officer that I know try to call on my behalf to figure things out, her work wouldn't let her make the call because it was out of country, even though the area code says it's from Ohio. They're spoofing it somehow. NEVER GIVE PERSONAL INFO OR BANK ACCOUNT INFO OUT OVER THE PHONE!!!! Good scam though...they get you so worried about a federal warrant and all that that some people may just pay out of fear. Oh, and also, Daniel Rich told me that there was some 1998 federal law that prohibits me from discussing this matter with anyone out of confidentiality.   what?!?! It's my confidentiality, right? So can't I tell anyone I want? Didn't learn about that law in LAW SCHOOL...

I wrote the tel. number down to see if I could get info on Google and found the other messages that people received.

A lady with a very heavy Indian accent claimed she was with the Dept of Legal affairs and US Treasury and that I had a legal action against me..I might have fallen for it but it's Saturday and the US Treasury is working? Yeah right.

On 2/20/2014 I received the same call from a woman,I did not recognize the #so I let it go to my voice mil and that stupid person was dumb enough to leave a messge,I just feel bad for the people who fall for this BS there has to be a way to stop these people.

Received the same call today. I told her I knew it was a scam and she hung up on me.

Received a call from a person with a very heavy foreign accent from someone in US "legal affairs" stating that our name was being using illegally and that we should call so that we could start protection proceedings. Definitely seemed to be a scam, called to see what they would say, when asked for their Federal ID, they gave me #11938.  When I asked them if he was employed by the Federal Government, he became agitated. Then when I asked ... since he worked for the government, could I please have their phone number ... he replied ... "why would the government be so stupid to give you their phone number?" ... so my guess is he didn't have our best interest in mind.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

I just received the same call, I hung up right away and the lady kept calling me back to say she is only trying to help me and I needed to call David Williams so I did he was very rude I asked about his IRS number as they always give it to you when you call and he gave me a 5 digit number proceeded to tell me he needed my attorneys information and if I didn't comply the IRS would be sending the police to my home.

Scam of course. Next time ask her if she is asking about the 1980's pop band.

received the call and spoken to a lady.  I was told to call a "Daniel Rich" of the legal affair of United Treasury.  Very heavy English or Australian accent.  Told her that US federal government normally will mail a letter regarding any matter.  She replied "aha".

Got the same message, and apparently from the same woman. And yes, no one in this government would ever say, "God Bless"

Received a call from someone supposedly in "legal Affairs" of the U.S. Treasury. We are to call back to prevent legal actions being taken against us. Recommended retaining a lwyer.
