This also happened with me but from the number (435)363-1207 that is in Logan Utah leased out to LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS, LLC - UT. The phone is a voip phone, and I assume they are running a wide scan of the internet n sites like facebook and yahoo to get first names and phone numbers. These Voip phones have an IP address, so it's really just hiding where the texts are originally coming from. Not sure how they would scam you, and who would fall for it, but apparently it hasn't been happening for that long, I recommend everyone report it to the local police that the number comes from, though really this type of thing might be in FBI jurisdiction as it is in several states.

I got a text from here, it had my first name and said hello. Upon investigation it is a spammer who gets people's first names, if you reply they respond that their name is textflirtie8 or something similar and tries to get you to add them on Y messenger.

Well mine was very similar, but they used my Halloween first name on Facebook. My first name being Beware (Ofthe Lmonster). So it said "hey Beware." I also replied similarly thinking it was one of my Fb friends or something, but the name they gave was textieflirt8.

How do they know our names? I looked them up and it says they are and Mississippi (Hattiesburg, Jackson, Meridian) I don't know anybody from there. But its a Text Now app they have.

Just got a text message with my first name. When I asked who it was they text me the following "lol if you wanna know who this is you got to addd me on Y! messenger. my name is txtiewoman8". Needless to say - I didn't do what they asked.
