Hi there!
This unfortunately happened to my boyfriend as well. They told him he had signed up for some time of promotional subscription years ago (they had his old address etc). They told him the promotional period had been over and they had been sending the magazines to his old address and he was locked in contract and had to pay. He argued he did not sign up for this and they threatened him with legal action if he did not give his information. He was scammed into it. As soon as he told me about it I began research. I advised him to cancel his current card # with his bank and advise them of what happened. ***NEXT IS THE IMPORTANT PART... THIS WILL GET YOU OUT OF THIS SCAM OF A CONTRACT and get their scaming ways noted! PLEASE file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau! They will take the matter into their hands and give the company 30 days to respond. We did this and the company relinquished ALL charges and cancelled the account. I refused to attempt to even talk to the company themselves for fear they would use recordings to further manipulate this so called contract we had. Please file with the BBB. You can also file with your State attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission to get the word out. It doesnt take long and hopefully with enough people doing so it will shut crappy people like this down!!! Dont back down!! Do NOT pay them a dime!

i recieved a call about magazines yesterday..they tried to say i was 1 of 5 people in line to win 1,000,000 dollars and that it was a sweepstakes I entered on line.  then they started talking about magazines and said i was to get 5 magazines for like 19.00 a month.  They gave me my name and address to verify.  Then they transfered me to the supervisor who wanted my debit card number.  I asked him the name of their company because it was never given to me.  He stated that their site was down for construction.  I asked so what is the name of your company.  He told me Coastal Readers Service.  I told him that I wasnt going to give him any information and that I do not give out my card number to anyone.  the number they called from was 480-421-2803 and they told me i could call back to 888-299-8272.

I received the same call.  I felt like they were phishing, even though they knew the last four of my credit card number.  I called my bank to make a note on my account but decided not to cancel the account.  I will come back here to let everyone know if the scammers ever actually charged my account.

THIS COMPANY IS IN FACT A SCAM. I USE TO WORK FOR THIS COMPANY AND I KNOW HOW THEY WORK. AS SOON AS I FOUND EVERYTHING OUT I QUIT. I'M NOT INTO SCAMMING PEOPLE. THEY WILL CALL YOU ASKING IF YOU ARE RECEIVING YOUR MAGAZINES CAUSE THEY ARE HAVING SHIPPING ISSUES IN YOUR AREA. THEN THEY TELL YOU THEY NEED TO UPDATE THE ACCOUNT AND ASK YOUR AGE, OCCUPATION, MARTIAL STATUS, AND A "SURVEY QUESTION" WHICH IS WHAT CARD OUT OF VISA, MASTER CARD, DISCOVER, OR AMERICAN EXPRESS OFFERS YOU THE BEST SERVICE. WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. THEN THEY TELL YOU THEY NEED TO TRANSFER YOU TO THE SUPERVISOR, WHICH IS NOT REALLY A SUPERVISOR BUT A "CLOSER". NOW MIND YOU THE ONLY INFO THEY HAVE IS YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND ADDRESS. THE REST OF THE INFO THEY GET IS FROM YOU UPDATING YOUR "ACCOUNT". THEY SAY YOU GOT SIGNED UP THROUGH A PROMOTIONAL OFFER. THEN THEY WANT TO LOWER YOUR PAYMENTS TAKE 6 MONTHS OFF YOUR SERVICE AND REMOVE THE AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. THEY SAY THEY NEED TO RUN YOU THROUGH THE ORIGINAL RECORDING FOR THE CHANGES TO GO INTO EFFECT WHEN IN FACT YOU ARE ACTUALLY SETTING UP A NEW ACCOUNT. THE BEST WAY TO GET OUT OF THIS IS VERY SIMPLE. EVEN THOUGH YOU TELL THEM YOU ANY TO CANCEL AND THEY AGREE IN 6 MONTHS YOU WILL GET ANOTHER CALL FROM THEM OR EVEN IF YOU TELL THEM YOUR NOT INTERESTED OR ANYTHING. THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THEIR SYSTEM IN FOR THEM TO (WHAT THEY CALL) KILL YOU OUT. WHICH MAKES YOU NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE PROGRAM. THEY WILL NOT DO SINGLE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE, OR SINGLE STUDENTS AND THE AGES THEY DO IS FROM 19-69. BEST THING TO DO IS SAY THAT YOU ARE OVER 70 AND YOU WILL NEVER GET A CALL FROM THEM AGAIN. NOW THEY DO GO BY DIFFERENT COMPANY NAMES.... THE ONES I KNOW OF ARE: ISLAND PERIODICALS, COASTAL READER SERVICE, WESTERN RENEWAL SERVICE, TREASURE COAST, AND PREFERRED RENEWAL SERVICE. THEY ARE ACTUALLY BASED OUT OF FORT MYERS, FLORIDA AND THE REAL COMPANY NAME IS MO MANAGEMENT, THEIR DIRECT LINE IS ACTUALLY 239-217-6049. I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE.

Hi Al - This same exact situation just happened to be about an hour ago.  I argued with the guy for like 30 minutes and he eventually just told me that he would forward my account to billing and get my account cancelled.  The # he gave me was 888-299-8272 and the name of the company is CRS.  Did they ever try to take anything out of your account?  They started to read me a card # but I didn't recognize the first 4 numbers he read me.  I was scammed by a company 4 years ago and ended up paying the account off because I was tired of dealing with them, so at first I thought this was those same people.  But the guy said I still owe the "2nd part" of my subscription but I told him I wasn't giving him any money.  I didn't give him any of my information, but he did have my home address and they called me on my work # which I didn't have when I subscribed to the magazines.  I'm so upset about all of this.  Any advice?

I am glad I am not the only one, the same thing happened to me today, that happened to Al.  I got a call today from a girl asking about magzines I was getting Maixm but I subscribed about 5 years ago for one year so i thought they just were giving it to me for free. When I was transfered to the "Supervisor" I got this rude bi*** telling me that I owe $60 per month for magazine's, saying that I signed up for this in July where I never did telling me that she has me on a recording.  I told her to send that to me ASAP becasue I know it BS.  She told me it was on a credit card that I don not own.  Do you think that I just make sure nobody has opened a credit card with my name on it?  Just last year I had to get rid of a credit card becasue somebody was buying inmate cell phones on it!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions I am tired of getting F-ing scammed!

Since it has been a while since you received that call, did you ever receive any unauthorized charges on any of your cards?  I just received that exact same phone call this morning.

I received a call from this number and missed it, but it has been during this month long time period during which I have been receiving calls from various unidentified numbers. Similar to the stories that others listed here, an individual (twice has been a man, once a woman) asks if I am receiving my magazine subscription ok. I of course say I do not have one, but do not give them any other information. This evil scheme must go DOWN!!!

The exact same thing happened to me this morning.  Lady called, asked me the same 3 questions, and then put me through to a supervisor.  He said I signed up for it online, and that I would be getting charged 60.00 a month for 36 months.  I told him I never recall signing up and I want to cancel right away.  Of course his reply was, "its too late to cancel, the only thing I can do is to downgrade your plan and you would only be paying 49.00, can you confirm that?" I started cursing and hung up.  He called back two times saying, "do you want me to downgrade your plan?"  He wouldn't tell me where I signed up for this, and the date I supposedly signed up.  I called my credit card company and told them the situation, so they advised me to change my account/card number.  So now they can't charge me anything on the card number they have.  But I asked, if they try charging me and find out I changed my account number, will they be able to ruin my credit....That's the only thing i'm afraid of, but hopefully, they will just get the point and stop calling...

This exact thing happened to me this morning!  Although, they went about the call a little be sneakier.  First she asked if I was receiving my magazine- Better Homes and Garden.  I am, and I like the magazines, so I said yes.  Then, from our confusing and vague conversation, I thought she just wanted to renew that subscription.  To make a long story short, I got swindled into a 30 month contract for 5 magazines for $39 a month.  That's a lot of money when you add it up.  I'm obviously not very smart.  As soon as I realized what I'd done, first I cried at my stupidity and their dishonesty, then I went to my bank and canceled my debit card.  I'm also filling out a complaint with the Consumer Protection Agency.

From now on this is my motto to ALL phone calls:  I don't give out any information on the phone.  If you need something verified, you can send it to me in the mail.  GOODBYE!

I Received a call from 602-412-3594 and they stated I bought magazines.  We went round and round then I was put on with a supervisor.  She said I that I could not cancel my subscription and I would be getting my magazines with in 90 days.  They said I had signed up and that they do not buy the numbers from people.  I have never signed up for Time Magazine or even gone to their website.

I have now received this same magazine call 3 days in a row with caller-id having different #'s each time.  Previous call came from 602-412-3594.  The person told me they were located in Florida but number is in Southwest Ohio.  Two days ago the call came from GA area code.

They are definitely scamming and they tried to identify my credit card using last four digits but they actually provided me with first four digits instead (which only identify the issuer).

I asked why they keep calling me as I know they are a fraud.  I then ask for their address so I can file a complaint.  They then state that I need to talk with a supervisor and get put on hold.  Supervisor never answers.

Yesterday, when they called, they could not identify the magazine(s) I ordered (which of course I didn't order in either case).  They only seemed to know of a $59 charge and wanted to verify I was receiving.

Seems like a scam so blatent as this to get your credit card information could be stopped in it's tracks.

DON'T TELL THEM ANY INFORMATION. If they want something verified, make them read it back to you, or even better, just hang up. That's what I did and immediately following got my card number changed. Most credit card companies will let you refute charges and/or block merchants from charging to your account, so there is that option if you don't want to get a new card number.

I got a call from these CRS people and they said they got my billing information from some rebate program that I signed up for . They want to lock you in to 8 YEARS @ 50/mo or something ridiculous like that, but they will probably offer to only sign you up for 2.5 years - either way, it's b***s*** and you should NOT agree to any of their subscriptions.

I recieved a call from this number (602-412-3594) from a woman who claimed I had subscribed to multiple magazines and wanted to know if I was recieving them. I told her told her that I had not been getting any magazines and don't recall signing up for any. I also asked her if I was being charged for anything and she said no that this is a promotional offer I signed up for, again I told her that I didn't sign up for anything. She asked me 3 questions, what do I do for a living and how long, maritial status and if I own a home... She put me through to her supervisor (Chris Jenkins) and again I told him I didn't sign up for magazines, he said I had to at one time authorize payment from a card he knew the last 4 of the number to. I asked him what was the date I make this authorization, he couldn't tell me, I asked for how much was it, he didn't tell me that either. I told him if I am signed up I would like to cancel at this point. He tried to explain to that when I signed up for all these magazines, his company prepaid them and if I didn't cancel in 14 days I could not after that and they would begin pulling payments from my account. I asked for the number to customer service 888-299-8272 and thayt name of the company is CRS. I think I need to see about a new account number or a whole new account, I'm concerned this conversation is all they need to access my account.
