This number called me at 10:00 pm eastern time on many occasions. When I picked up nobody was there. I called the number back. And got nothing

Yes these are "Lead Brokers"  They charge you a $9.95 hosting fee + a one time set up fee to "create" a web site for you, plus $1.95 processing fee for each lead generated.  But as their five minute audio message - which they will play for you - says "as some leads are worth $50 that leaves you $48.05" so is minimal.

What they do not say quite so clearly is that their fees are charged even if your lead capturing web site produces nothing.  You are also expected to do your own advertising which can be a major expense as you have to generate hundreds of hits to get someone to fill in a request for info and plug in their contact details - which only work if they are genuine.

My feeling on this is that if it were profitable on its own they would be making money by putting up hundreds of their own websites, or investing their own money in directing people to a site of their own rather than try to get people to pay them to set up and host a site.

If a company wants you to pay up front for a chance to work for them WATCH OUT!
