A woman named Ann Mc Cullough claimed she is from Revenue Canada and I have to pay about $ 700 000, I would owe a contractor, to Revenue Canada immediately. If not I face dire consequences.

Further to my other post... If you can't leave a proper message - do everyone a favour and go find a job that does not involve using the telephone!

Got a call from this number today asking for my daughter (who has NOT lived here for about 20 years). I asked who was calling and was told "Government of Canada." I asked if they wanted to leave a message and they gave a toll free number (1-800-661-5991) for her to call, and when I asked if there was a message on what it was regarding he said "it's the Government of Canada." Our kids are all grown and moved out long ago, and they all have their own contact information. They have however given our number as a contact number "for emergency purposes." I find it asinine that anyone would call this number for any reason other than an emergency. If you want to reach my kids, kindly phone them or send mail to them at their own residence. And if you can't reach them by phone, definitely have the common sense to send them snail mail instead of harassing their elderly parents. I am NOT an "answering service" for your convenience.

I received a call from this number and, not recognizing it, didn't answer.  The phone indicated 'Message Waiting' and I checked my messages, receiving a call from an indivdual from the CRA with whom I'd been working for a number of months.  She simply asked me to return her call and left a different number.  It was all ligitimate.

I received a call from this number yesterday. They guy on the phone said he was from the Canada Revenue Agency and wanted to update my information. The first thing he asked for was my birth date and SIN number. This is obviously a scam and I didn't give him this information. If you get a call like this, give them no information and call the CRA yourself. I called the CRA and they said they have no record of anyone calling to update my information and the case number he gave me on the phone was not valid.

I could understand wanting to verify/update my address, but why would he need to verify/update my birth date and SIN which would NEVER CHANGE.

As others have said it is definitely CRA.  I get calls from them at work and that's the number that shows on caller ID.   However the number they give you to call back is totally different.  This number is probably just the line number for their telephone system.

Got the call today and the idiot completely butchered my name.  I called after 5 and thought it was weird that I was on hold after 4:30.  Waited 15 mins and clued in that something wasn't right.  Decided to google the toll number I was given and found this.  I got the messed up letter from HRSDC and know that my info was on that hard drive.  Annoying thing is hubby got the same letter to.  Guess I'll be phoning Equifax in the morning.  &uckers.

Some people may have already had their identity or money stolen!
FOr this risk, WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY A CENT! That is the only fair thing to offer!

I got the call and they were on my facebook for information. They were MUCH too nice to me to be the CRA LOL ! The CRA would give me a min payment and that would be it, they would say "just pay what you can.." .. He was really trying to get me to send money. I wouldnt give him any info.. if that was CRA they wouldnt be so nice about it!

dont trust it! protect your info... and share so other people know!

CCRA is an old acronym that the fitment hadn't been using for some time now. It was Canada Customs and  Revenue Agency now its just Canada Revenue Agency. If they said CCRA then its definitely a scam

This is directly from the Governement of Canada website:

Call to discuss payment arrangements for debts owing to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada,  such as;  defaulted Canada Student loans, Employment Insurance Overpayments, Employment Programs overpayments and Canada Pension Plan overpayments.

It also states that they never ask for SIN or any other personal information on the phone or by email.

Just so people know, the company that is attached to this number is in fact called CRA. HOWEVER, it is a debt collection agency and NOT Canada Revenue.

I would advise against giving anyone from that number your personal information, as if they are the government like they would have people believe, they would have it in front of them when they call (I asked a rep from Canada Revenue about it the last time I spoke to them).

I got a call from this number this morning.  I was working so I didn't see that they were calling me on my cell phone.  They didn't leave a message.  I have student loans but I pay every month faithfully although when I initially graduated I had a horrible time finding work and eventually defaulted on my loans.  I actually just called student loans yesterday to change my mailing address with them, so this call must be in regard to that.  Not everyone is a loan skipper but it can definately be paralysing to see an amount owed in the tens of thousands when you've just graduated and are not earning much.  Entry level jobs don't pay nearly enough to satify the repayment demands of students loans.  Anyone here who says "pay your student loans you jerk" has clearly had a different experience in life and needs to admit that they haven't walked a mile in someone else's shoes.

The number is legit.  I called the National Student Loan Service Centre (from the number, on their website) to deal with my loans.  They forwarded me to CRA, who then gave me that number to contact.  It's a resolution department.

The CRA will ask for your SIN # when verifying identity with those that have not set up online accounts. That is standard but they don't usually call people unless they are returning your call.

These posts are all over the place.  Final word is.....it is legit.  Sorry if this now makes you anxious, but, it is part of the CRA's Debt collection for "Social Development Canada" (CRA's words).  The 604 691 4994 number is not on their general directory but is on their collection's directory.  We also got the dreaded message on our machine with the 1 800 661 5991 call back number.  I told the person on the other line that we do not have any debts and certainly no student loan debts (since we are in our 50s.)  She said we can call the "individual concerns, contact 1-800-959-8281 number" (which you can verify on the "Beware of fraudulent communications") web page and they will tell you if you have anything owing and they will tell you to call the number to address the issue for which they called you.  Before you give them your SIN number; you can always ask them to verify who they are by asking them if they have the line 150 amount from your notice of assessment from the previous year.

Hope this helps
