This is CITIBANK Student Loans. They were sending me an automated "courtesy" call to let me know payment would be resuming the following month. Mind you it's taken me 3 phone calls to them to verify the phone number and also request they stop calling 4-6 times a day at all hours.

This is CitiBank's autodialer for student loans. Now, my loan is entering repayment status and I know this already. I've answered the number twice and have already made it clear that I know that my first payment is due in a month. However, they aren't getting the point. They are harassing me even though I haven't missed a payment or anything. This needs to stop!!!

FYI. Never give your social security over the phone. Tell them you won't and they'll use your contact info to check the status.

I will be complaining to customer service about this on Monday and I plan on paying the balance in full within six months so city bank can screw itself for all I care. This is the most unprofessional bank I've dealt with for student loans

I received multiple calls (2-3x daily at least) over the past week from this number.  Twice a message was left--the same recording stating a status change in my account and to call an 866 number.  The 2nd time the message was cut off in the beginning.

After reading everyone else's comments on here regarding it being Citibank (as I do have open student loan accounts with them), I emailed Citibank to find out about the status of my account.  They were able to give me all the relevant information I needed.  I also asked in my email about the telephone numbers--no response was given, though they were able to indicate what my status change was.

Even with my back and forth communication wtih Citibank, I still received a call from the 605 number.  I'd say ignore it, and if you want to actually speak with Citibank, contact them directly from their website.

I have had student loans with Citibank on and off for 24 years and for the first time I started receiving calls from (605) 330-6811 over the last week for no reason at all. Only one message has been left with a specific date I needed to call back by, but the remaining 6-8 calls a day have been without messages. I recently received a letter from Citibank regarding my account and everything is on track. Based on what I have read about other's experience with calls from this phone number, I am inclined to think that the outsourcing company is trying to collect payments to up their commission or for other unethical purposes. Be careful! Only call Citibank back using a phone number from a real statement or by accessing your account directly from the Citibank website.

These people are contracted collectors for Citibank (maybe others as well) student loans. They use several different numbers and are a nuisance! I am in deferrment status as I am a current student and they are calling me. They call like 5 times a day and if I do answer, they hang up on me. If I call them back, I would be on hold for God only knows how long, when it says the wait time will be 10 minutes, I hang up! Down right disgusting! I wish they would just LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!

I received a call from this number 4-5 times a day and they never leave a message.  I finally called them back today and if you notice their initial answering never states a company name it just says "customer service".  Then, when the actual person picks up the phone they only say "customer service", again, no name of company or what not.

I then asked them to take me off their calling list and he said, "oh, you don't have a student loan with us?"  I then asked "who is us" and he tried to divert my question saying that he'd transfer me to the dialing department to get my number taken off of the list.  After 30 seconds or so of corny elevator music the same guy came back and said, "I just talked to our dialing department and they will take care of it".

Anyone ever heard of a "dialing department"???  haha, don't get scammed by these idiots.  Don't even give them your name - just demand results!

I saw this number come up on my caller ID, so I let the answering machine answer.
Obviously a recording starts the second the call is "picked up" by the machine because I could hear ".... states of your account". I didn't know who it was so I picked up the phone & the recorded message stopped, noone there. My wife does have a student loan with Citibank.
But I'm pretty certain it's ALL BS about removing your number unless you send a written demand. Especially if they're trying to collect.

Funny, when Citibank took all those billions from us, they didn't send us any of it back....Now THEY want ALL their loan money from everyone.
Bottom-dweller banking scum...
Personally, I was hoping they'd go under and let us off of their "toxic trading carousel".

I get calls from this number but no msgs. Like Tom T., I too have a loan from Citibank. However, my loan repayment has been deferred so if this tel# is Citibank's loan dept., I don't understand why they would be calling me. Besides, why wouldn't they not leave a msg of some sort if caller from this tel# is legit? It makes me wonder if this is even Citibank. What do you think?

This is Citibank Customer service who calls when you have a loan coming due (I just graduated from grad school and my grace period is up).  However, I've been getting calls from this number, no message, even after I called them back, and verified that I would be paying my student loan.  I explained this to the agent, he apologized, and said I should be fine.

At least if you have this number you talk to a real person.  The customer service number on the student loan website is VERY difficult to get a live person, unless you hit ###### (I just hit it repeatedly, not sure how many times it actually takes).

I'm just waiting for my Ed.gov loan consolidation to be processed.  I'll be fine never dealing with Citibank ever again.

yea. so, I just got a call today from this number with a voicemail.
Voicemail stated they called because I have a Citibank student loan (note, they didn't say they were from Citibank), and to call 1-866-865-0738 by 11/4 and left a reference number.

funny thing is that my entire loan is paid off.  Is this legit?  I figure if there was a problem, I would get a letter in the mail or and email.

I'm ignoring it for now.

I've been getting multiple calls a day from this # for a couple of weeks now.  They've only ever left one voice mail, and it was via an automated machine telling me to call them back and enter the offer "code" it gave me into the system.  Sounded like a sales pitch or scam, so I didn't call it.  I just now called them back after barely missing their call.  An automated system simply identified itself as "customer service" with no customer name as it transferred me to a rep.  That rep then identified the company as citibank, and asked for my SSN.  I told her I don't give that out, but she kept insisting on it.  She never once offered to look up any sort of account through any other means, such as address.

As mentioned by another person, the rep asked if I had a school loan with citibank and again asked for my SSN.  I told her she needed to just add my phone # to her company's do-not-call list.  She was polite, apologized, and said she would.  This just took place, so I don't know if really did it or not.

Despite the recording I doubt the number has anything to do with Citibank. An automated message was left, with the message to call 1-866-865-0738 and some digits. The response was automated. The message enter your CONFERENCE code number. I hung up

Conference code numbers are for bridged lines - a teleconference when a lot of people need to call in. It is not a customer service number.

Regarding the "real" Citibank - like it or not, a large number of their customer service call-ins are sent to India. Some are sent to Florida. No proof, only a suspicion - someone(s) on the customer service line decided to create their own scam. Or someone who picked up a lot of credit reports, and focused on Citibank customers - former and present - for this scam.

Yeah, it's a scam.  I've received over a dozen calls from this number in the last week alone.  They are persistent to the point of ad nausium.  I answered once, got a machine with that sketchy student loan speech already mentioned above by others, as well as some sort of hard-to-understand event reminder.  Figured that was a little odd.  Called back and got their "call back during regular business hours" speech.  Even more sketchy is that they identify themselves as the Student Loans Department, which is of course very vague.

No self-respecting or legit business is going to call at all hours of the day or night, and much less without leaving some kind of voice mail.  Never mind the issue of it always being about student loans, which many people obviously don't have.

Definitely don't give any information to these people.  It's all a scam.  Shoddy business practices, at the minimum.  Full blown scam in all likelihood though.

Bob, I agree.  As someone who, stupidly, paid for my school almost entirely with Student Loans, I fully believe that it is a retarded idea.  Of course, that is the benefit of hindsight.  I can also say that I found skilled labor-type jobs far, FAR more satisfying than sitting in an office (read: cage).

That said, I got a call from these people today, and they DID leave a message, but I did not realise that until I had called it back.  When I answered, I did have them identify themselves as CitiBank, but when they asked for my SSN, I told them that I would call back later.  Esp since my loans are not in current need of immediate attention.  The message that they left was to call a number- (866) 865.0738- and input some six-digit number (which I am not stupid enough to post online).  The recording also knew my name, though they mispronounced it (can't expect anything else from a recording).  I just don't trust anyone who immediately asks me for my SSN, so I wanted to check the number.

It might be a legitimate number, but I don't know for sure, but I also do my banking online, so I don't know why they are calling me.

I have also started to get these calls from the same number.  It is the same as the rest of the stories above.  They never leave a message, so I haven't called them back.  I have student loans, but I don't believe they are legit especially if they don't leave a message.

Called me once and left a recording about some Citibank student loans. I'm not a student and 20 years ago when I was, I paid for my education in CASH and had NO loans. They called back; I answered and pushed "3" as I was told to remove my number from the list.

Guy came on with an Indian or Pakistani accent. I told him I didn't know the person they were calling about. He asked for my name. Gave him that. Didn't ask for anything else. He said they would take my number off the list.

We seriously need to end student loans. Half these kids don't pay back the money. And apparently someone has no problem giving out bogus phone numbers on loan apps. If you can't pay, you can't play. Just ruins their credit; costs the bank money; and then we all get bothered with these stupid calls. Pay your bills people, and pay them on time.

I do not have a mortgage through CitiBank either. I called 800-753-3673 and had to go through a lot of prompts and enter a "fake" SS#.. but finally got a Customer Service person and I asked them to remove my number from their "dialing team" as the rep called them. She said the calls should stop after today. What a pain CITIBANK IS!!!!!!!!!!!

I too, keep getting between 5-6 calls a day. Once in a while I will get a message saying call before a certain date and here is your reference number. I called back and I got a person from India saying, "Customer Service, can I get your name?" I gave them my name and then he said I need your SS#, I asked, "what company was this" and he said in a really nasty voice, I'm from India." I stated that I do not need to know what country you are in, just what company I am calling. He said I am with your Student Loan company. Well, my loan is in Deferement and no payments are due right now. DO NOT GIVE YOUR INFO TO THESE PEOPLE!!! Be smart! Call the "Real" Citibank number on the student loan site, if you need help!

Event Reminder
Like many others on this site, I have received multiple phone calls from the automated system (605) 330-6811. In 9 days I received 13 calls...and counting! I called 605-331-6811 a total of 3X to get my name off of the call list, which I was told I should do - by the people at605-330-6811. I was told to give it 24 hours in each case and I did so. The calls keep coming in spite of the fact that I did what I was told I should do.

Finally I called Citibank at 1-800-967-2400. I got the run-around once again. They also told me that that number is not Citibank. However, every time I have called 605-330-6811, they tell me that they are dealing with my Citibank student loan. So - what is it then?! Then I was told that a Citibank supervisor would call me back within 24 hours...still waiting but certainly not holding my breath.

I have never been late on any payment with them (or anyone else) and have always  filled out the appropriate deferment forms, etc. Doing it right apparently is not enough to stop the harassment behaviors by Citibank. If this continues, I will have to take legal action. I can not believe that it is possible to do everything they ask for and still be on the receiving end of such harassment.

So heads up to all prospective students: DO NOT TAKE STUDENT LOANS FROM CITIBANK. Unless you like harassment and irritation, that is.

I think this number is legit, but it is ridiculous they call all hours, even weekends. I kept getting calls at like 5am-6am every day, including weekends and holidays, and 4-6 times a day. I finally answered to tell them they were harassing me and I would take legal action if they called again. They said they were trying to collect payment for my student loan through Citibank and asked for all of my info. I did not give it to them as I thought they were a scam, my loans were not due yet because I am still in school. I called Citibank (which btw Bea, also told me they now own Eucaid and Sallie Mae and a couple of other loan companies. My loans weren't weren't with citibank either). The citibank person said they outsource the calls to this agency who is calling, as kind of like a collections agency to get students to pay their loans. My school had made a mistake and had me as not enrolled in classes. I told the citibank person about being harassed and that they were calling at 5am, which I am pretty sure it is illegal to call before 8am or after 10pm. After she took care of my loan problem, I didn't receive any more calls.
