Male caller with a computer sounding voice, claiming to have "important time sensitive" information.  Sounded like a scam when he started laughing at the end.  Don't answer these calls.

Prank Call
Did not recognize 607-218-4768 on caller ID so didn't pick up.  Caller with a very heavy accent did leave a lengthy message though, claiming to be Agent David Cooper (ha!) from the "Internal Revenue Service Department" and to call his "hot line number" at 585-310-3285.  He didn't specify what the problem was, only that it was a time sensitive matter and if I or my attorney didn't return his call, "the only thing I can do is to wish you a good luck.  The situation unfolds on you."  Who says these things?!  Call ends with "Thank you.  Have a great day."  This was laughable but impersonating a Federal employee is illegal so I filed a complaint with FTC.gov.  When I checked the IRS.gov website, apparently these IRS phone scams have been going on for a few years.  I just wasn't lucky enough to be contacted by these clowns until today.  So, if you don't recognize the phone number, don't answer it.  And as another contributor, AWY, mentioned, the IRS does not call you, rather, they send mail so don't be fooled.

I received the same call from the same number.  The caller has a really thick accent that I cannot really tell the name: maybe xx Smith.  After seeing all the posts, I do believe that this is a scam.  Thanks for all the posts!

I just received a call from a person with an Indian accent, identified himself as a Mr. Alex Martin from IRS. He told me that there is a deficiency in income tax and to call Dexter Cruz, an investigating officer, at 607-218-4768 for details. I asked for his badge number, he gave me 7590493. I called this number, get a  message...cannot complete your call, please try again.
I think this is a scam. He didn't ask for information.

Prank Call
Was called four times from 607-218-4768.  On final call, a barely intelligible person with a heavy Indian accent, informed me that he was agent #0190 James Cook.  He informed me that I owed taxes, was under investigation and had to call Dexter Cruz to sort out my troubles.  He was unable to answer why the IRS was initiating contact via telephone instead of mail and suggested that Officer Cruz would answer all of my questions when I called him at the # provided, which incidentally was the same # he was speaking to me on.  When I asked him why I should call back the same # when he already had me on the phone, he got flustered and hung up.

I did not pick up the phone, so he left the message.  The phone back ground can hear some South Asia accent talking. He even speak my name wrong (LOL), and claimed he is calling from IRS for some allegation. This is a F**King scam.

My mother received a call, claming an income tax issue, and requesting call back to the 4768 number and asking for "Adam Spencer."  My mother has no pending issues with the IRS, and my wife who has professionally prepared individual and small company taxes for 20 years states that the IRS does not initiate issues via phone, ONLY VIA MAIL.

Furthermore, when my mom challenged the caller asking "Are you with the government or is this private?"--the caller refused to answer the question.  My mom asked repeatedly and each time the caller refused to respond.

Therefore, I'm fairly confident that this is a scam.

Event Reminder
I just received a call on that same number saying was a call from IRS telling me that we are not paying taxes...tried to ask the exact name of whom they're trying to call...just said goodbye and hanged up on me because the indian accent person calling probably can't tell me the exact name of the person not paying taxes. I believe it's a scam...don't give any information.
