I answered the phone and there was a guy singing and when he realized I answered he hung up very quickly - weird!

Someone calls, asks for wife by name, who is this guy

received a call from this phone number asking for my husband by name. He has been deceased for over 8 months. When I
asked who was calling, he just said Andrew. When I asked where he was from he hung up the phone.

This number has been calling us since we moved to town 4 years ago asking for "Alvina" or "Alvinia".  I've told them repeatedly that there is no such person here by that name and to quit calling.  They never listen.  Occasionally they stop for a few weeks, only to start up again.

guy asks for me by name but can't pronounce it right. I tell him no this is "my name the correct way" and he says oh and quickly hangs up. I went on line and reverse looked up the number on USWest White pages. it came back to and unlisted number, but it gave and address on pleasant st. in Beloit, WI. No legit. bussness or fund raising group would be unlisted. Watch out I smell a scam. He probbaly thinks he can get more sympathy from a woman, might be easier to get money.  Not this one. I am putting the word out in my community to beware.

guy asks for my wife by name.  Say she is not home, may I leave a message?  He says she knows him, his name is John.  No other message.  Called the number back and got the "this number is not in service" message from the phone company.

They keep calling our house as well.  They won't say anything unless the answering machine picks up.

Someone calls asking for my mom by first name, I tell him to hang on.  When my mom takes the phone, he had already hung up.  Is this a scam or what?

SCARY!  We have been receiving calls from this number.  A man asked for my husband by his first name.  I tell him that he is at work.  I ask him if I can take a message and the guy interrupts me quickly saying "thanks", as if in a hurry, and hangs up.  It kind of freaked me out.

They called today - this time they said they were calling for homeless veterans.

Same thing, they won't stop calling.  Now that my son loves to talk on the phone I just hand it to him.  He's 5, I bet they love that!

you all are correct. This "company" is in Wisconsin. My wife made the mistake of sending some money to a "firemen charity" a few years ago and they continue to call and ask for her. They used to block the name and number, now only the name. I do not answer any number I cannot indentify. I started out being nice asking not to call back. Now, I don't even answer.

I made the mistake of giving them money a few years ago being a softee after the 9/11 thing which is what I'm sure they are preying on. I have started asking for information to be sent to me in the mail from everyone now stating that I no longer give money to charities over the phone.  If they actually send it, I look them up in the Better Business Bureau. One company I looked up ended up having only 10% of the money going to the cause with 10% going to administrative costs and the rest, 80%, going to the salaries of the employees. I can't remember the official name of these guys to look them up.

These scammers keep calling from Madison, Wisconsin. They say they are a firefighters charity and always ask for a woman by first name. When told not to call again, it seems to make them call even more. Please continue to report their number to the National Do Not Call registry and the Wisconsin Department of Consumer Protection. These jerks need to be stopped soon!!

Man called asking for my wife by name.  I told him she wasn't available and no answer, so i hung up. Creepy.

We have been getting this number calling us too!  On another website they found that it is a supposed firefighters fund thing.  

I have learned to ask everyone that calls wanting money that if this is for local organizations why are they calling from a different area code!?!?!  TRY IT-listen to them squirm out of it-funny.  I then tell them what i think and hang up!

I have gotten two, maybe three phone calls from 608-299-1479, Beloit, WI, since May 2008.  I've never been home to answer the calls, but since I don't know anyone in Beloit, I Google the number and found this website.  Is there any way to prevent annoying phone calls like this?  Apparently being on the "Do Not Call" registry is not enough. This person must be able to make money using this scam, or he wouldn't be doing it for so long.

Recieved a call from this number 6082991479( Wisc. phone number)  each time i ask who it is I get a different name. however this time when he asked for my husband I got a call back 515-462-8727. Reverse look up shows Iowa Landline.

Who ever this is has asked for my wife by name. I told the guy on the phone that she was not here and then he hung up the phone before I could get any information.

Someone from this number called today.  I said hello and it sounded like he said 'Hey!' so I said hello again and asked for my husband by his firstname.  I told he he wasn't home and asked to take a message.  He just said 'American Veterans' (not this is American Veterans, just said American Veterans).  I said 'ok', he said 'ok', I said 'bye.'  It was very strange.

Caller asked for my dad by name. When I asked for the caller's name, he said "Jeff Peterson." When I asked what this was regarding, he said he just wanted to say hi to my dad (like he was an old friend.) I knew this was bogus, since my Dad's 91 years old and doesn't know any young guys named Jeff Peterson from a 608 area code. Also, I could hear the telemarketing sounds in the background. When I asked what company he was from, he acted confused. When I again asked what company he was from, he said I was "weird" and hung up. I tried calling the number back and was told it was out of service.

My wife answered the phone and the caller asked for me by name (first and last).  She asked who was calling and the reply was "Jeff Peterson."  She asked "from?" (asking for a company or such) and "Jeff" says "from my house."

She brought the phone down to me, but by the time I answered it, he was gone.

Said he was raising money for veterans.  Cracked jokes about wanting a thousand apple pies for fourth of july weekend, then asked how much they could count on me for.  I told him I never give money over the phone, if he wanted to send me something to look at through the mail, I'd review it and see if worthwhile to donate.  He got snotty, said he wasn't trying to get me to buy a new car, it was veterans in need and what kind of American was I?  Really rude.

Keeps calling at different times each day. When I do answer nobody is there. Today I called the number back and it said the number was no longer in service. They had called just 5 seconds before I called them back. This is a very strange thing.

Asked if this was (my wife's name).  I laughed and said no.  He said he could barely hear me then hung up.
