Definite scam or lame joke. I also just received a text from 609-576-5581 that read (translated from Spanish): "There was an accident here and the boy is hurt. I am trying to call a friend for help and get a video recorder. They were leaving and when..." and that was where the text ended. Original in Spanish was: "Aqui hubo un accidente y el muchacho esta herido. estoy tratando de llamar a la familia para ayudarlo y sale una grabadora de video. Ellos iban saliendo y cuando"

I received a text message in spanish saying that someone was injured and that they were trying to contact the family but no answer. I was really scared I thought it might be my husband who had just left for work. I called my husband and he was fine. I called the number and some guy was asking for 2000 dollars to give me the name of the person that was injured and help him. I said I was going to report them to the police and the person hanged up.

Similar story as the one above me. They called my brother with an elaborate story, explaining how I crashed into their motorcycle with my car and how they wanted $5,000 for the damages. They told him I was being held captive in an undisclosed area and that I was being badly beaten and my head cracked open. They continued and demanded that my brother go to the nearest grocery store to wire them the money otherwise they would kill me. This is really SICK. Especially with everything that's going on in this world. I sincerely hope these guys are caught and put in jail. I don't think they realized the extent of their crime. In New Jersey this falls under, though I may be wrong, 2C:12-3. Terroristic Threats.

Although not everyone would believe such a story, under the right circumstances, this can be extremely traumatic to hear and cause real panic. A police complaint has been filed. Be safe.

I received the text message with the same " a person had an accident and gave my number as a contact for help" same description of juliaD statement above, this is a scam. I cursed him out n text him to drop dead and the hole nine yards, he was truly laughing. it was 2 guys on the line one calm the other aggressive. threatening to kill my brother if i didn't pay 2000 for the so call damage of a motorcycle he and his so call friend that hurt the caller son and was at a hospital very ill. beware everyone they are scammers. i called them back and they answered" idiots. beware people for a minute i believed them! That my brother was hurt. idiots.

My wife just got a similar text on her cellphone, and called me up to try to read the text to me in Spanish.
I made most of it out, then went downstairs to look at it on her phone. The import of it was that someone
gave our number out as a contact person to call when a child was hurt(supposedly OUR child). The caller needed help in dealing with this hurt child and was trying to leave a message. However, the text message ended up in the air with an incomplete sentence. So I called the number, and a loud voice speaking Spanish  repeated an unintelligible
set of phrases. I started speaking English, and told him we had no son, or child, who he could be talking about, and then HE started speaking English, and when I asked him what the place was he was calling from
(thinking it might be a daycare center) , suddenly the conversation ended. I called the number back and an automatic voice told me the mailbox was full.
This is one of the lamest scams I've ever heard of.

I got a text message talking about someone who had an accident and need help, I called back to let them know it was a mistake and the guy said there was an injured person who gave my number so I could help him but he refused to say the name of the person needing help, then he tried to say that it was my husband or my son, unfortunately for the caller both my husband and my son were home with me.
I insisted asking the name of the injured guy and he wouldnt tell me, he answered me ..."Oh is your husband, he had an accident" when I told him my husband was home he said...."Ah... then is your son"
And when I told him they were both  home he closed the call.
Just beware if you get a call like this because this person will ask you the name of your family to tell you they are in trouble and need your help, he will not tell the name of the person that need help because is not real, there is not such a person but if you get nervous at the bad news you would be confused give out information they will use to confuse you even more and get away with their trick which I think is about to obtain information over the phone most likely related to credit cards, bank account or how to get your money somehow.
Think twice!!! If your are looking to help someone in an accident or any other kind of trouble the right thing to do is CALL THE POLICE instead of calling ramdon people asking the name of their relatives....so just BEWARE and dont panic make sure you ask the right questions and if there is not right answers IT IS A PRANK CALL!
