This is really simple, the lackeys for these companies can pretend to be whoever they want to on these boards but this is the bottom line.  If a collector calls you and they are legit, when you ask them not call and to verify the debt in writing, they will follow the law and do it.  If they are scam artists they won't.  If they say they are an attorney, if it is true, ask for their bar number.  If they don't give it to you, then they are lying.  Every debt, payday, home, auto, personal loans...EVERYTHING falls under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.   Nothing related to payday loans can be considered criminal, EVER.  Don't let them scare you or intimidate you.  If they are legit they will act legit, if they are not, they will try to bully you.  Hang up the phone.

You could work up a case based on a false skip trace call to the PoE, since clearly the same NLG rep had already used a valid personal phone number. I just got a call from some jerk telling me he was from the "attorney's office". He gave me all my debt info from 4 years ago and when I asked for a breakdown of all the fees $300 plus dollars worth, he told me that was up to me to get myself. I asked the name of the attorney's office and was told North East Legal Group. I continued to try to get more detailed info and he became irritated and asked me whether or not I was going to pay my debt. I told him I never said I wouldn't but that I wanted a breakdown off all the fees because for a $18.00 debt to have over $300 in fees I want to know what I'm paying. He hung up on me.

Then he calls me at work and says he wants to talk to my supervisor. I told him that he was in violation of the FTCPA. He said he wasn't and had every right to call me anywhere. I told him I was filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and my Attorney General. he asked what for and I told him because he called me at work and harrassed me by asking for my supervisor.

I called back and tried different numbers. Funny how they all have very generic names like Jim Hammer, William Tower, Rachel Green, Anna Smith.

This Northeast legal group are a bunch of scammers!! They try to collect on old debts settled years back and are using illegal tactics to do so. They tried to tell me I owed for some bad checks that were paid years back!!! Once you give them your attorneys name and number you never recieve anymore calls!!!

I've received calls from NorthEast Legal group and I'm still trying to figure out if they're legit or not and should I submit a payment. The issue I have is I dont have a address for them and they want the payment by moneygram express. I am a single parent and can't afford to be scammed in any fashion. I've been scammed before that wasn't a good feeling . I thought I was paying a bill the whole time I'm being scammed WTF!! Please help can anybody say for sure they are who they say they are!!!!

They are illeagley threatning people for debts that were settled years ago, and they tried to collect from me too and calling my relitives and friends. And if I did have any payday loans like I applied for but was turned down for.
And the reason I was turned down is because payday loans are illegle in the state of Pennsylvania. So I could not have any loans from them, and when I tried for one about 5 years ago is past any time limit to collect anyway

They called today and threaten my mother for a debit that happened a year ago. I am planning to file a lawsuit.  The guy on the phone told me he was going to contact my District Attorney, to file s suit. Seriously Harrasment.

I received a call this morning from this # requesting to speak with my Aunt and was threatened because I refused to give my Aunts home # after the guy refused to give me the name of the Company and he reason for calling my home looking for her.  The guy argued that he knew that I was a relative because their Skiptrace System provided all of my Aunts relatives; Siblings, Parents, Cousins, etc...He also added that I had 72hours to convey the message and hungup.

This company is Profile Recovery Group, a collection agency who collects on hard to collect debts.  They use very illegal collection practices, throwing out legal terms to try and scare you to pay.  In one phone call with a Third Party, a listed reference, they violated five different sections of the Fair Debt Collection Act.  In addition, they claimed that if the debtor did not pay the debt, that the third parties would be responsible for paying the debt. I know that I am not familiar with this law, nor is any attorney that I know.  Don't buy into their game.  They are based in Canada, but have a phone system that dials from Ohio.  If they call you, ignore them, do not answer their calls.  You do not want to deal with them in anyway, shape, or form.  Under no circumstances give them any money or payment.  If you talk with them, ask them to call your attorney, they won't.  They know that they break every rule in the book and will not talk with legal counsel even though they tell you their legal representative must call,  Ask them to send you copies of your debt.  They will claim that they already sent these over to your employer, using their fax number, do believe them, they have not.  This would leave a paper trail of their illegal collection practices and they don't want that because then you have evidence to sue them with.  Do not hesitate to file a claim against them with The Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General in your state.

They called looking for a family member of mine about a payday loan they said he took out.  They told me his full name, birthday, his bank name and last 4 of his social!  WAY TOO MUCH information!  That has to be illigal.  She said that they would take him to court and I would have to testify! LMAO!!!  WHAT EVER! Those people are NUTS!

The caller asked for Mary Lovelace, who doesn't live at my residence. Nor is she the previous person to have my number.  I politely said she doesn't live here and the caller politely said sorry and hung up.

This number just called my grandmother and she refused to give them my number. She asked for a name and number to give me the message and they refused. They said they would just get my number from the police! Yeah, right. And they said "you can't help us or you won't help us?" And got ugly with my grandmother! Sheesh!!

Someone called my home phone saying she was an arbitration clerk and had a decision about the case??

They contacted me with a different #. 6145869393. They also mentioned a lawyer by name. Stan simms. They screwed up. If you are not a law firm you can not represent yourself as such. They even gave me the civil judgement case # they are going to file if I dont whimper like a little puppy. Guess who's going downtown Monday with that case #. If there's no record of that # then PRG just stepped in something. PS they even claimed to be a law firm!!!! They should sue themselves. I think they have a good case.

These are debt collectors using illegal tactics by calling family members for old debts. I kindly told them that I'm estranged from that family member and I didn't know how to help them. They'll leave you alone after that. Or until they sell the debt to someone else.
