I got a similar call do not remember the # exactly but I traced the call to a Fresno, Bakersfield exchange in CA and I saw lots of notes about fraud telephone numbers. The caller said I owe the IRS money. I knew it must be something of a mischief.I immediately called my accountant who does my taxes who knows everything about IRS. He said IRS will never call you for anything. If you owe money to IRS you will always get a letter and he told me to ignore the call.

Print this out and give it to your boss or have him come here and read! Its a scam..  They are extortionist breaking the laws. Some of these clowns are trying to even collect on bankruptcy debts which is illegal!  You can not be arrested for owing a debt by the way! It is a civil matter and it must go through the court.

According to the law, they have to give you proof in writing, not email or fax. Go to the right side bar and read the laws  and know your rights under the latest articles..

Report them to the FTC,FBI, State attorney General and the FCC.  <both of the sites will tell you the laws also in regards>

I hope ur dad is fine.I received a similar call yesterday. And its the same phone no, whereas the call back number was of Newyork. An investigation officer wouldn't give his personal phone no.He said he is officer Adam Scott from State Investigation Department and that there is a legal case under my name. For a while I was really scared and thought what wrong have I done. But thanks to this forum, which made me realize that it's a scam. These are some call center guys, who are using the data for wrong purposes.

Prank Call
i got a call from 626-236-5675 which was picked by my aged dad. By then damage was already done... as my dad believed who the caller said he was. I took phone away from my dad and was introduced to 'IRS' Agent from New York that told me about arrest warrant against my name for not paying taxes. I have paid my taxes. I knew he was prank so i yelled at him and scolded him, he did not expect that... soon his professional mannerism melted into indian accent (saalaa bhadwaa).. he was literally trembling on phone at that point when i clicked off. How can such petty thieves get away?

Debt Collector
I received a call today from 626 236 5675 number. It says they are "State Investigation Officer". They are the Bronx office. They say they have an IRS office with an Legal affidavit against me. When I hang up, they say they called me back again. I asked them to send a letter. Normally a letter with call back number is valid way of Govt communications. Anything over the phone can be considered as  a scam.

I received a similar call from (Unknown Name: Unknown Number). The person claimed to be from the Crime Investigation Department and said he had an arrest warrant for my dad. He said that my dad owed taxes for 2011 and 2012 and that he would forward the warrent to the state police department if I didnt make a payment over the phone immediately. I was really scared. I told him that once my dad gets home he will call the IRS directly to see if there is any need to for the IRS to speak to him. Then I called the local police department and reported the call. They gave me the number to the Criminal Investigation Bureau to report he phone call. ***Do not give the caller any information and contact your local Criminal Investigation Bureau Department to report he calls*** Lets get these b*****ds to stop calling.

Prank Call
Got a call from "Brandon Taylor" from 626-236-5675. First he was from State Police, when I told him to give me his name, department name and a phone number, he said he was from IRS and gave me 845-842-2019 as the number. Not sure how he got hold of my cell number but regardless, he was not thrilled when i told him i will call AG and IRS direct to validate him. Looking at the comments below, it appears that these guys have been busy. In the Call type drop down menu, they should have an option for Scams to properly identify this kind of call. I have marked it as prank but, really, this is not a prank but a criminal activity

In that kind of certain situation do fun with them if you accidentally receive their call and hung up! Do not receive any unknown call or personal call from any body in the world. I think that may help! Best/ G

Received a call from this number posing as Federal Crime Investigation department that I have 3 allegations and local police is coming to arrest me. I owe IRS money from 2010 and 2011 and the DA can settle down right now. I have 30 minutes to decide, do not discuss with anyone, I am trying to help you. I should go to the bank right now, keep my cell phone on all the time because the phone is being recorded. Withdraw the money right now and the  officer will be at your door to collect the money. I asked for 5 minutes time to verify but they did not want me to hang up the phone because the phone is being recorded. If I hang up the phone, the case will go to the court and I will have to pay 45K court fee. I reported the matter to the local police station but the police said they already have 10 reports. It is a scam. Please do not believe them.

A guy with a very thick, difficult-to-understand South Asian accent calls me every week or so on this number, claiming to be from the "Crime Investigation Department", whatever the heck that is.

DO NOT BELIEVE OR GIVE IN TO WHAT THESE GUYS SAY. This is a phone scam using fear tactics to get money from you. From what I've seen, it's mostly targeted to folks of Punjabi or South Asian decent. It is likely they find a phone number to older folks with Punjabi or Indian-sounding names on the Internet.

These types of crimes are extremely common. (See http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2013/04/2 ... rly-Couple.html) If you're not sure if they're the real deal, ask them very specific questions. Ask them what agency they're with. Ask the person for his/her name. Even go as far as looking them up online while you're talking to them.

Finally, keep in mind that if a warrant for your arrest has ever been issued, THEY WON'T CALL YOU! The police or agents will just show up on your doorstep. They don't give you the chance to flee.

These guys have called several times and left messages on my machine. I actually answered this time and informed them that I know they're fake and that I've reported them several times. The guy just said, "Okay," and hung up. That should be enough to know that they are impersonators.

ONE LAST THING: If you find out that they are scammers, file a complaint with the FTC!  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en This will keep them from scamming unsuspecting folks in the future, especially the elderly.

Prank Call
I got strange called, voice message left on my machine, my family got scared:

The person left voice message he called himself, Federal officer Mike Anderson from Crime Investigations Department, indicated that I have  a warrant out for my arrest. Call back them at 626-236-5675 which is in California, to contact Officer Thomas O'Brien who would give me more information regarding this issue to resolve.

I called local police NYPD 108 Prcnt, NY PD 1 Plaza, and also went to Queens county Criminal Court to find out is there really any warrant on my name, found zero, nothing.
One of NYPD from NYPD plaza Google the given fake number and found lots of people reported about this phone calls, that really  help me to make sure it is false and prank call.

Thanks to all  NYPD, Justice Department  for their help.

I received a phone call from an unknown person posing as a fake police officer. He claimed his name was "Deputy Watson from the California State Police" and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. He gave me a fake badge #4927 and stated that I was "involved in identity theft fraud." He told me to call a Thomas O'Brien who would give me more information regarding this issue.

For those who receive this fraudulent phone call, remember the following before getting concerned:

-A Police Officer will never call you directly regarding this matter
-There is no California State Police

Did you send money via your bank account?  If so, call your bank immediately and dispute it as fraudulent.  If you paid via other means, then the money probably is gone.
