same call as Fred Y and pretty much the same exact responses, I asked what car they were calling about and they couldn't tell me but said that I needed to tell them...I just hung up, tried the number and got the mortgage services as well.

Caller id says "American Capital"  They called my business phone several times today.

They call a few times a day

called me twice.  it sounded like a recorded message.  talked about extending a warrantee on my vehicle.  i don't have a car!  i'm not even old enough to drive yet!  what's wrong with this person?  & where is he getting our numbers.  it's kidna pissing me off.

I got the same call as Fred Y on 1/18 at 2:10 pm EST but hung up.  Obviously someone up to no good!

I got the same call as Fred Y at 6:43pm EST, and when I told the customer service guy I did not own a car he promptly hung up on me.  I called in the number to the local police, though I have no idea if they can actually do anything to stop this guy from stealing somebody's ID.  I also got the mortgage services message when I called back.

Called my cell phone even though I'm on every no-call list there is. Trying to sell me extended warranty coverage for my car. Automated sales line goes something like this "This is our final call to extend warranty coverage for your vehicle...". So I played along to see who this was from. The sales rep asked for my vehicle make and model. I told him he had called me offer to extend my car warranty coverage, so tell me what the make and model of my car was. He obviously couldn't. I asked him what company he represented. He wouldn't respond. Any when pressed, he hung up. I tried to call the same number back and instead of getting the car warranty department, now I get something related to Mortgage Services.

Receive calls at my business numerous times throughout the day.  Caller hangs up as soon as I answer

We get this same recorded message about grant funding several times a month.

Recorded message when I picked up. Called me 6 times in one day within 3 hour time period. Pressed #1 on 6th time to talk to a representative to be taken off list. Spoke to Robert and told him to remove me and he hung up.

Receive calls on my business phone several times a day.  Try calling the number back to have my name removed and you simply recieve the same pre-recorded message.

My caller ID says "AMER BAR ASSOC"  -- I am not home when these calls come and they never leave a message.  I became suspect because of all the calls and no message.  If the call was important I would think they would leave a message. I am guessing these people are using a new scam - just letting everyone know what is going on.

received a call from 630-689-2846 which I believe is located in the western suburbs of Chicago, IL. Didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.

Our law office has received several calls from this number, most recently yesterday around 1PM.  The phone rang twice but disconnected before the call was able to be answered.  Our Caller ID says "Amer Bar Assoc" so I guess they change their name & possibly their game to fit who they are calling.

I am receiving unsolicited phone calls from an automated telemarketer on my cell phone. This is illegal according to FCC regulations (47 CFR Sec. 64. 1200)and Connecticut law (CGS Sec. 42-288a). At least 3 calls recently, on Jan 18,2008 it came from number 630-689-2846, Jan 22, 2008, same message about an expiring auto warranty, but the number is being blocked, same in an earlier call. Verizon states they can do nothing about this, suggest entering cell phone on Do Not call list. This incoming number is all over the internet, Google the number for other individual?s comments, mine are the same. Can the State of Ct file a lawsuit against this company as stated in the above law, or encourage the Fed Government to take action. The calls are illegal and create personal cost against my cell phone plan.
note : My complaint above filed with the FTC and state of CT. last week. As of January 28, another call received, this number has been reported since Sept 2007, is the FCC/FTC investigating these continued complaints with the FBI ? Why is our Goverment not stopping this illegal interstate call activity ? The laws are very clear, we need enforcement.

my son picked up this "unkown" caller and passed me the phone. When I was it wasn't one that I know I hung up. This kind of crap causes so much stress for people. I want a law that "gets" these creeps HARD!

if they hang up as soon as you pick it up, unless you want to pay for long distance don't call back. it's a tactic the company will use so they don't have to pay for long distance.

So I just got off the phone with these guys.

I had received countless calls over the past week... Usually this number but some times a 208 area code number... well after looking these up and finding this site yesterday, I reported them to the FCC and put my number on the national do not call list. Today however, I figured I'd answer the call, and they told me my auto warranty was about to expire, blah blah blah. I pressed one and talked to a person... he asked for year model and make of my car, the conversation went something like this.

"I've received a lot of calls from you guys recently, and my number is on the national do not call list. I just wanted you to know that there is a class action lawsuit being filed against you... I've got so many calls from you guys, I looked you up and other people have got countless s*** from you guys..."

"There's no need to swear at me sir."

"Well no, I just think its real crappy. I shouldn't have to put up with this, i'm on the do not call list."

"Okay"

"I've filed a complaint with the fcc. I'm sick of this s***."

"There's no need to swear at me sir."

"Well you guys just need to stop calling. Otherwise I'm going to take this to court."

"Okay."

"You guys need to just think about what you're doing here. So many people are getting so much s*** from you... and we're starting to file a lawsuit."

"Okay sir, we'll call you tomorrow!"

Now, needless to say, that infuriated me. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get on the phone with someone from either the FCC or FTC... the only problem I see is that I only registered on the do not call list a day ago, and the FTC says I can file a formal complaint once my number has been on the list 31 days. In all seriousness, if I do get another call I'm going to strongly consider a class action lawsuit. I hope people here can join as well. This is ridiculous. I can't believe that. "We'll call you tomorrow."

Unbelievable

I've gotten calls from this number several times a day for the last 3 days, ever since I got home from a conference in Oklahoma. I would suspect whoever it is, is stealing contact information from the local Chamber of Commerce since this was the organization I was meeting with, and I met 2 members from the Chicago area and had never recieved a phone call from this number previously.

I got a call from this number at 244pm. I've reported them to the FCC and FTC. I've also gotten a call from the number 281-520-3761. If you look on this site under that number, you will see pages and pages (12 the last time I looked) of people who have gotten these calls - mostly Verizon and Sprint cell phones. Others have provided valuable links to report these scammers to the authorities or try to get them to stop - a personal favorite of mine is someone who blew an airhorn into the phone :]  I'm sorry I missed this last callf rom the 630 number - I wanted to play along and freak out for a while. Shucks. But I'm sure there's always tomorrow. :o)
