Whoop whoop we're going to collections. Maybe they will stop calling. The only response is "please don't call again".

This was my experience with them. And to top it all off I've recieved the same fax from them today 5 times demanding that I pay. When I called to talk about this not being any kind of intended purchase I was met with very aggressive behavior. I have filed with the BBB and the Attourney General and I suggest that everyone pull together to do the same thing.

THe same exact thing happened to me.  When they sent letters to collect , I thought there must be some mistake...I hadn't remembered the exact offer but knew it was for a free "listing".  THen they showed me my signature and I always felt something was missing off the copy they sent me.  I would have never overlooked that I was signing to place an add for $169!!!!  (2012).  It appeared to be my signature on something that was
missing the "free" component on the original. I was beyond mad and very nasty to them, telling them my business was doing terrible and I didn't have the money and it was unintentional on my part and they are purposely deceptive but they didn't give a s***...threatened collections etc.  I knew I'd never get any call...who uses a directory anymore anyway...and even if they do....not for my business....and I NEVER GOT A CALL....I just as easily flushed the money down the toilet....I wish someone would take them down!!!!

I worked for these jokers for a minute and quit when I realized what was REALLY going on there.  It's the typical "fast rap" pitch to get you to say the word YES on tape.  Then they threaten you with collections if you refuse to pay for the ad you didn't want in the first place.  The salespeople are responsible for their own collections, so they are of course beyond aggressive.  The "directory" angle is pure BS.  These guides are nothing more than lead generating tools for other shady salespeople.  Do not be fooled.  If they call, don't say anything more than "please don't call again" or you'll be sorry.

I used to work at Manufacturers' News.  They are in the 847 area code and have no phone numbers in area code 630.  I believe this number belongs to an outside telemarketing firm they hired to call manufacturers annually to verify that the information in their free listings is still current and correct.

Well Mr Dubin my momma always said "Show me your friends and I'll tell you what you are".  You are known by the company you keep and if you are using this company as you claim, to drum up business for yourself it shows you're a scammer too.
I've worked for 25 years at my company.  The first time I ever came in contact with your company the person on the phone said that we had previously listed in your directory.  I put the caller on hold and called the VP of sales and he said we never advertise that way, we've never used your company and the listing was put into your directory without our knowledge or consent.
(Our VP of sales was screened and interviewed and was determined to be of high moral character and integrity so I tend to believe him over whomever I was speaking with on the phone )
I told your representative that what they had told me was a lie and that we have never done business with your company nor would we; ever.
We have continued to receive calls from your company or company representative and the tactics they use are the same as other scammers. The whole attempt to "verify" our name and address for the free listing is a well documented scammer's tactic to get us to say "yes" to another set of questions verifying the subscription, which isn't free.
Your challenge for anyone to provide a document for a free listing and then charging a price is a straw man.  Of course you wouldn't do that, that would be out and out fraud and you could be prosecuted for that.  You just send invoices disguised as solicitations and there's rules that govern that too.  Your "invoices" are in our scam book at work and everyone that answers the phone here knows to hang up on your company

We at Manufacturers? News were just made aware of this page today and felt compelled to respond to some of the comments.  Since 1912 we have maintained the country?s most comprehensive and accurate database of U.S. manufacturing establishments.  Maintaining such a database involves doing research to contact each company annually to verify key facts.  Contacting more than 400,000 businesses annually is more than we can handle in-house, so we use an outside teleresearch firm to handle our routine verification calls.  It is that firm that owns and uses the 630 phone number, and makes calls on our behalf.  We have made it clear to this outside firm that we expect its callers to show every possible courtesy and professionalism to the businesses it calls on our behalf.  The isolated number of complaints we receive compared to the hundreds of thousands calls made each year would indicate that on the whole they are doing a good job, but we welcome any comments from anyone who has had a bad experience so that we may address and correct any problems.  Feel free to contact our Executive Editor Steve Garland directly at (847) 864-7000.

We include and profile every U.S. manufacturer free of charge, and occasionally send out Free Profile Updates.  Like most other directory publishers, we also offer paid enhanced listings and boxed display ads, and mail out solicitations to purchase advertising.  But there is no crossover between the two.  Our Free Profile Updates never mention or contain a price, and the completion of such never incurs a fee, and our advertising solicitations never mention or imply that the proposed representation is ?free?.  Any allegations to the contrary are false, and we challenge anybody to produce a Manufacturers? News document that contains both a reference to a ?free listing? and a price.  Furthermore, anyone that places an order for paid advertising is immediately sent an order confirmation giving them an opportunity to make corrections or cancel the order prior to the press date.

Finally, more than half our annual circulation of 100,000 directories is sent out free of charge to the attention of the purchasing departments of companies likely to make industrial purchases.  Included with the directory advertising is preferred placement on our industrial search engine IndustryNet.com, which is currently averaging 30,000 unique searches per day.  So advertisers do receive value and sales inquiries, which is why the majority of them choose to renew each year.  Again, we invite anyone with questions, comments or feedback about Manufacturers? News to contact us directly at (847) 864-7000.

Just got a call from this # saying they were from something like Manufacturer's Registry.  I'm not sure, I couldn't understand the dialect.  I have been scammed before and do not want to go through that again.  Anyway, they were updating the information for a FREE listing.  I told them that I didn't have the authority to verify information which would cost the company any money, and they should call back later.  Then she mentioned something like "$19.90", again I have no idea what she said.  I won't be answering future calls.

I've been getting calls all week from this number. They claim they want to update my business listing on some web site. The caller is always Indian. When I here them start their speel I just yell at them about taking American jobs and then start asking them personal questions. Eventually they hang up but they sure do take a lot of abuse first.

Manufacturers News IS a scam outfit.  They send out deceptive mailers (first paragraph in giant print: FREE LISTING, second paragraph in tiny print: if you fill out even your phone # and send it back it costs at least $154) and make purposely vague sales calls to try and strong arm you into paying for an ad you didn't want.  They prey on small businesses and use the threat of outside collections to get you to pay.  Even if you DO realize you've placed a paid ad, the joke's STILL on you.  These so called "registries" are nothing more than lead generating tools sold to other businesses for a large sum.  So now you're getting even MORE unsolicited sales calls.  How do I know all this?  Take a guess...

Caller had a very thick accent & was also difficult to understand.  He said they were updating a free business directory and wanted to verify company information.  Our company policy does not allow us to do this over the phone.  We tried explaining to him that we would need his company's phone number and information to proceed further.  He rudely hung up.

The reason they hung up upon hearing "Hello" is they are a sleazeball data mining company that offers both "free" & "paid for advertising" in their directory. The truth their hiding is that contrary to their claims of their directory being used as a source for vendors, in reality it's sold to sales people for use as a sales lead generator.
If you're unfortunate enough to have your company name/address/ph# along with owners name etc... be prepared for an onslaught of phone calls from extremely aggressive sales people.
The reason they will be so aggressive is they already know your company is susceptible to scams by virtue of being listed in the directory.
If you are extremely unfortunate enough as myself & have your home Ph# erroneously listed as a business # be prepared to receive that onslaught at home.
Back to why they hang up on hearing "Hello".
A business does not generally answer the phone with "Hello", so they conclude it's a residence with no value to them so they just hang up.
