I received the same letter yesterday, but it is from Nortrax Financials out of Eau Claire, WI. The envelope had no return address and the stamp is from Canada. The check looks very legit and is drawing out of JP Morgan Chas Bank, Syracuse, NY.  The letter indicated I won $100,000 and this is a check for $4,888.53 which should be 3.8% of government recommended taxes.  It looks authentic, but 3.8% of $100,000 is not equal to $4,888.53.  It asks you call Sean Peters/Susane Robinson to activate the check.  The phone number listed is (647)889-4831. I did not deposit the check. I went to Chase bank first and had them verify the check. I was told that it was not a good check.  I came home and called the number again, it went to an automatic telling me to call back again.

I too am the lucky winner and I thought it was a scam myself. I did call the company and they had no information to give me other than "I was the lucky winner" and to go cash my check and give them a call afterwards. It immediatley sent off a red flag! I think these people are either sending out loans to people on the verge of having bad credit or they are trying to get into your bank information. I even called the bank to see if they knew anything about these types of checks and I was on hold for a good while. I am assuming they never found anything!

My brother received the same letter today but it is from UPR Financials out of Hayfield,MN. The envelope has no address and the stamp is from Canada. The check looks very legit and is drawing out of U.S. Bank, N.A., Miamisburg, OH.  The letter indicates he won $100,000 and this is a check for $4,888.53 which should be 3.8% of government recommended taxes.  There's a couple of words that are not spelled correctly and the 3.8% of $100,000 is not equal to $4,888.53.  It asks you call Sean Peters/Susane Robinson to activate the check.  The phone number listed is (647)889-4831.

I got even better--along with the letter was a very, very legitimate looking check for $4888.53.  It shows it is from the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and drawn on Wells Fargo Bank all in San Francisco.  I also did not call, but checked online for a website for the above mentioned entity.  It exists, but there was a scam alert on that website about this letter stating it wasn't from them.

Bob, I think you must have been the lucky winner also. I received the same letter and name as you, Sean Peter. I have not called nor am I. Yes, I'm sure it is a scam.
