Automated message stating "We are calling about a very important business matter". In truth, this is a company that preys on individuals with debt that is *well* past the statute of limitations. They are scam artists that are hoping to trick the people they're calling into paying on this old, no longer legally collectible debt. Do *not* offer to pay off the debt. Do *not* send them any money. Contact an attorney and have them send a cease & desist letter to these dirtbags. Then, contact your state attorney general to report this fraudelent and illegal activity. Do not let them trick you into thinking they have a right to do what they're trying to do. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is on your side, not theirs.
You never hear what the company name is. My caller ID shows a number of 651-967-1940 but the recording says to call 800-299-8301.

This number and a 457-1130 from the same 651 area code calls me every day. They call with the 967 number first, then call with the 457 number right after I don't pick up the first time. They sometimes call several times a day, totaling half a dozen times or so. I do not have debt with anyone, yet they continue to call. When will they stop?

Someone called me today from this number and it is from a debt collection agency called Receivables Management Solutions. I called the guy back and he said I had defaulted on a credit card of some type and said it was associated with Fleet and/or Paragon. Neither seemed familiar but he insisted that it could have been a department credit card or some other type. He was unable to give me any details about it but said that the credit card was defaulted in June of 2003
This collector also stated that I had been sent many letters about this in recent months, but I don't recall getting anything like that. I asked him to send me something again and I'd look for it in the mail.
Ultimately I think this 'debt' is bogus. I've always had very good credit and generally find it hard to believe that I just completely forgot about a debt and ignored statements and so forth. I've never been contacted over the years about anything of this sort.
This is my first experience with a debt collector. I'm not sure how I'll handle it but first I need some more evidence that this alleged debt is legitimate.
