I got a phone call at work threatening to have me arrested for theft and fraud.  They could not tell me the date that the event happened except that it was prior to a month ago. They then called me at home and gave me the name of a company they were with and when I tried to find it online, no company existed.

Just received the same call.  I told them I was not aware of what they were speaking about so they transferred me to a person to explain it.  They claimed I owed a payday loan and I had severe charges pending against me and I would be arrested Monday morning.  I told them to send whatever info they had to my home and she said no you will just be arrested Monday morning and hung up on me.  I knew it was a fraud from the beginning.  A law office will never call you and tell you your charges and that are you going to be arrested the courts just issue the warrant and come and get you, then you have to get an attorney.  Do these people really think I am that stupid!!!

I just received a call from them today. They said that they would be calling the FBI and that I will be arrested tomorrow at work. They wanted me to pay $100 today via green dot money pack. I asked "Erica" if she could provide me with an address or a W-9 form and she got very upset. They have very heavy accents.

They don't even say they are debt collectors. If I remember right when collecting any type of debt they have to identify themselves as such.

Continue to receive phone calls at work and my cell phone from "Wilson" and some other name law offices.  Told me that all the paralegals had gone home for the day. This has something to do with a pay day loan...say its with Cash America...that if I don't pay...I'd better have a good attorney because they will send an arrest warrant out for me.

I told them my husband would call who is a police officer and they threatened to shoot him down. I would say start there and tell them you will have your spouse call who is a police officer.

Once they make a threat on someones life, well, it is obviously not legit.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Yes you do.   I've noticed a lot of these rotten scammers are preying on women.  Doubly rotten.  They prey on people who might be in difficult situations and might not know the law or feel uncomfortable going to police or attorney general.

Ignore it.  Total scam.  Be on the lookout if anyone calls you with an Indian accent threatening you.  There is no arrest for civil debt in the US. There are no debtor's prisons. Police do not get involved in ordinary civil disputes. Only a judge can issue an arrest warrant and only if duly constituted law officers make an application and there is reasonable cause.  And that is only in criminal matters. An ordinary debt is not a criminal matter.  They are trying to SCAM YOU!  Ignore it and go to local police and make a complaint.  If they can't help you they can at least refer you to your state's attorney general.

They called my job spoke to my supervisor said I was involved in criminal activity that I need to send 1250.00  by Thursday via money pack for a loan I did not take out. When they called from 661-451-2085 they said there name was Jon marshall and that he was a paralegal when I asked more questions he transferred me to some one else . Then they asked me to verify my social and I told them I don't give that out. How do I stop these calls at work and  cell???  Do I need to contact my local state's attorney??

I got a call from this number this morning leaving a minute long voicemail saying that a guy named Ricky needs me or my attorney to call him back if not I'm going to get arrested. I searched up the number and seen it was a scam. I called him back letting him know I called the police and was reporting him, and to. Stop calling me and he said I was going to get arrested, then I said about the police and he said bye. I'm scared that he has all my information and can do whatever with it. What else should I do?

By law they must provide you with a letter (by US Mail, not fax, text, or email) if you ask for proof of debt.

I was threatened to pay out of court or be arrested at work that evening or the next day. One week later no arrest. This is a scam. They use scare tactic to scam people out of money. No debt collector is allowed to use threatening calls or ask for money in the way they are asking. I am surprised to find that they are still using the same number. I have called them several times calling them out they are scam artist.
