I had a bad feeling about posting on Craigslist for a room mate. People are crazy now a days and I worry. I have been emailing back and forth with this lady "Katie Williams", for a few weeks now. Evidently, she's using the same story on me as well as y'all. I've made it clear a bunch of times, that she would not move in until I ran a background check on her. She was fine with the idea and said once she got here, she would rent a hotel so we could all meet and run the background check, before moving in. She even sent me pictures of herself. She explained the shipping stuff and wanting to send a check to secure the room. I gave her my address yesterday, after a lot of thought. But she wouldn't be renting from me, she would be renting from my mother. But I would be the one handling the money. Something told me in my gut today, to call her, as she's told me I could. The number went straight to an extension voicemail box. Then I googled her number and found this site and now I'm in shock!  What do I do? How could she scam me from just my address? Where do I go from here?  Please help!! I don't need this unnesscary drama/stress in my life.

Glad I did some digging. She is giving me the name Katie Williams.Same story as the rest of you, but I dig into people before even giving them my address. Has not gone as far as discussing money. Don't people have anything better to do! Thank you all for giving the heads up to everyone else. There obviously needs to be more people like you out there.

I'm in the process of them trying to scam me right now. Same story. Different name. Something hasn't seemed right the whole time.  Any advice on what to do to try to catch this creep or should I just cut it off?

This person is now going by Katie Williams from SD giving the same story as the ones above( yoga instructor, traveling nurse moving bc mom died) kept asking for our address and phone numbers. Kept repeating how she was financially stable and wanted to send us a cashiers check to secure the place. SCAM!!

This is the number I was given by a craigslist add about a room rental.  She wants to have delivery guys bring her things and she will arrive a week later.  But allegedly we are supposed to cash some delivery fee check and keep the remaining balance.  Bunch of crap.  SCAMMER ALERT!!!  DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!!  Gave her name as Jasmine Williams and a crap story about being a yoga instructor and traveling nurse.

Yep, I got scammed by the same person in Pardeeville Wisconsin.!  Same story as everyone is stating.  Wanted to rent a room but went to India for a seminar and the shippers will bring her things (car, bed, chest of drawers) before she gets back! She said she lived at 3161 32nd St  Fargo, North Dakota 58103 and that her mother had just died and she was tying up things. The cashiers check that she sent, looked authentic and almost got cashed but I asked more questions.  The check was for $2964.00.  My biggest fear is that she had my address but the Sheriff said they never would have arrived with her 'stuff'!  Rather, I would get another note from her saying that the shippers needed some kind of money to start the move and to please send them X amount of dollars.  The sheriff also said that the original post was probably taken from someone else and then Jasmine continued from then on.  This helped explain why the original was good English and the rest was broken English. I wrote to her and told her that if you would just use all this energy for 'good' she could be powerful but all she can be viewed as at this point is a con and a predator!    All my correspondence is with the Sheriff's department and I have tried to flag Craigslist.  Where is the FBI when you need them?
