Got the phone call - first time ever.  Answered and was promised all kinds of fee reductions to my long distance cost.  Said they were contracted as new long distance provider for AT&T and were offering these fee reductions to those who use long distance infrequently.

Woman did not ask for any info that was not in phone book, so I figured I'd play along to see where it all led.

She passed me on to a "verifier" who talked so fast I could understand only part of what he said.  Then he asked if I would verify that I wanted to change my long distance provider and I told him I would do no such thing.  Told him "This all came out of the blue and that I would want to hear from AT&T about the changes in service.  It just does not sound right."

The "gentleman" said he could pass me back to the orginal woman and I could ask her what I needed.  The phone then went dead.

They did not call back.

Who are they and what are they trying to do?  Wonder what info he would have requested to process my change in service request.

I have been called by this number and reported it to the phone company. It can be reported to the sheriff.

I have received 3 calls from this number. My phone number is unlisted. The 1st 2 times I was hung up on when I answered, the last time a woman said she was calling to reduce my long distance fees and to lower my AT&T bill. I told her that I did not pay any fees and she hung up on me. I reported the calls and telephone number to AT&T. Has anyone notice the number are the lyrics to "Jenny" by Tommy Tutone?

They call me everyday for about 4 days now....keep  hang ups when I answer...Its driving me crazy!!

So I keep getting the call to. Anybody recognize the number?  Its Jennys number from the song lame... Does anyone know how to get them to stop? They never answer when I pick up and of course they call when Im busy.

Won't leave msg.. Just keeps calling.

I've been receiving a call from this number almost every day (sometimes twice a day) over the past few weeks.  I was able to talk to someone today.

I had a similar experience as dherber.  Although, they were VERIZON'S contracted long distance carrier.  They now have more competitive prices and they were just calling to let me know that they were going to lower my bill by about $17 less than it is now.  All I had to do was verify some information (name and address).  

I tried to explain that I don't have Verizon as my landline carrier and don't receive a Verizon bill, but he didn't really understand but tried acting like he did.  I told him that he was offering me a great deal to now only have to pay $3 a month, since I currently pay around $20.  He then said that my bill would actually be $5.95 a month.

He got a little confused when I told him that I was under contract with another carrier and didn't want to incur any additional charges to have him make changes to my bill, so I asked him what if I don't verify my information.  He said that he wouldn't be able to lower my rate.  I told him that I really didn't understand why I had to verify my information for him to lower my rate.

I finally told him that I'm fine with the $20 that I currently pay a month.  I thanked him for his time and we hung up.

I got this call twice now!  I posted a message about it on twitter so maybe we can try and figure this whole thing out.

Same experience as described by others.  An idividual asked for me by name ands I said "Your calls are bugging me so you better have purpose" she then hung up.
What recourse do we have?

Report him to death.

Same as everyone else.  Calls home daily.  Redial gets disconnected message.

Easy.  The phone no you are calling to has forwarded the calls to a dis connected no and so you get the message.

Same as everyone else....phone rings, I answer....electronic warbling sound....nobody home.  When I redial I get the "disconnected or no longer in service" message.......if it's disconnected how can they call me????ARRRRRGH>

fedup with this number calling me they don't talk but keep calling sometimes as much as three times a day!

This number has been calling my landline everyday, two or three times a day for the past week. I let it go to VM, but there is never a message.

I get a call from this number, and they hang up every time.  I looked it up in the online White Pages, http://phones.whitepages.com/701-867-5309.  The Prefix (701) 867- is leased by Bek Communications Cooperative.  Here is there website: http://www.bektel.com/

I have been receiving call from this number for a couple weeks.  They never leave a message.  Yesterday, I answer the phone and a older man said he was calling about my AT&T.  He inquired whether I wanted to lower my bill.  Since he was so abrupt, I ask him what company he was with and he became irritated.  At this point, I suggested that he remove my number off his calling list, etc. Unfortunately, today there was another hang up call from the same number.

I knew someday my song would be a big hit, and used for great purposes. Here I am relaxing, retired, in Southern California and BAM my song is calling me. Well, I don't answer to strange song titles.

Its Probably The phone Company/ Trying  to Get you to buy Caller Block Service. Big Business is getting pretty Devilish. They Dont Know or Cut Off or Nothing But Oh Well.. Evil Corp/ Big Profit.

I also am a victim of this s***. I shall try the whistle remedy tomorrow.

Short story for you all to use as you will.  When I was a kid, I always noticed a whistle hanging by my Grandparents phone. One day I asked my Grandpa what it was for.  He told me they had been getting prank calls, and they just wouldn't stop. So he decided to be proactive.  The next time they called, he blew the whistle directly into the "mouth piece" of the phone, as hard and long as he could. Oddly enough, he received no further calls like that.  Not that I am suggesting anyone try that.  OK, I am suggesting everyone try that. It seems to have worked for this number as well.  No more calls from Jenny at (701)867-5309.  Possibly because they are now deaf, but I did warn them...

actually had my surname and asked me if i was happy with my phone service.  when i called back it said it was disconnected.

I was told by the CA Public Utilites Commission to call the FCC and file a complaint - 1888 225-5322, or call the Attorney Generals office in your state.  For CA its 800 952-5225.  Totally annoying..sick of these calls..ridiculous that these telemarketers are legally issued numbers they can use to harass, and there is no trace to the public....

Got a call from this number at 7:57 pm tonight.  But I was already on the phone and didn't pick up.  Seeing all the other comments, I'm glad I didn't.  This prank-calling a-hole should not get to have such a cool # as Jenny's!

I've been receiving calls from this number for weeks. No one is ever there or leaves a message. I did some further digging and the number belongs to a North Dakota phone company, Bek Communications. I went to their website and found their customer service #. When I called it the lady who answered was very nice and courteous, and obviously American FWIW. She knew immediately what I was talking about because many people all over the counrty have called them because of this. She said that the scammers responsible can make any number they want show up on your caller ID, even if they are really making the call from Russia, the origin of many hackers and scammers. She was of the opinion that the pranksters are using this number because of the old "Jenny" song. How they benefit from calling all of us several times a day to just hang up is beyond me; I'm sure they think it is just hilarious. Bektel has disconnected the actual number, but that is all they can do. The best thing to do is call your local phone company and set up Call Rejection so you can block the number. That should block any incoming calls with that label.

We have had the same thing happen today. Saying that they could lower our phone bill. They knew how much we were paying on some charges. I asked for paperwork to be mailed to me and she hung up on me. What a dirtbag!!!

Same here.......maybe someone should start putting in complaint calls to Tuttle ND....and whatever phone co services that area??
