Absolutely!  And some of **those** numbers (unlike current "070" numbers) have historically split the fee that is collected for dial them with the owner of the number, although I believe the UK government is cracking down on many of those operations.

It would be interesting to survey the complaints on this site to see whether some of the complaints against "70x", "870," "844," and "845" area code numbers are really complaints about UK numbers.  Probably most of the time, the owners of these UK numbers either cannot dial out using them (that is, they are incoming lines only) or it may be quite expensive to dial out using them.  I've never tried doing so, but there is what appears to be a rather involved procedure whereby I can use my "070" number as an outgoing line, but then I have to dial into my own number at the same rather high rate everyone else would have to pay.  They might charge me again for dialing out, but I haven't really had the need to figure that out yet.

I would also warn you about +44 870 /+44 871 / +44 844 / 44 845. They also forward to cell phones, and are the choice of scammers. They all seem to end up in Nigeria.

Actually, I sent the webadmin a retraction of my report, along with the fact that I think this now could be a UK "070" number scam.  I was trying to revise my post, but you answered it, and the website wouldn't allow me to make the revision.  But here's what I was going to say:

The email in the posting appears to be the your own email address, and the phone number also appears to be your own Indian telephone number (country code 91).  I have reported this for deletion by the webmaster.

The fact that this message appears to be directed to an area code "702" number for a British company suggests to me that you are leaving off a +44 (UK) country code.  Is the phone number of the company actually +44 70 2404 2692?

If so, you are likely to either have been scammed, or it is likely there was at least an attempt to scam you.  In the UK, telephone numbers that are published in an International format usually omit the leading "0" before an "070" number.  These "070" numbers are numbers that can be forwarded almost anywhere in the world.  The caller to such a number pays a premium to the "070" service provider, and the numbers are given away free of charge by many UK telephone company providers to anyone who wants one.

I have one, myself.  You should check with your local phone company to find out how much they will charge you for calling it (in the US, some low-cost phone companies charge between about 35 and 50 cents per minute rather than their standard rate of less than 1 cent per minute to call a standard UK landline -- other companies may charge quite a bit more), but I do have a recording up on mine that lasts about 2 minutes and explains one type of fraud that such numbers are often used to commit.

My number is +44 70 1760 2550.  If you do use it, use it no more than once to avoid running up your phone bill.  Note that you cannot tell that this number is actually ringing a US phone number.  Nor could you tell, for example, that it was ringing a Nigerian phone number, as is often the case.

Perhaps if the email address you sent your resume to permanently failed, and the response you got from the server is legitimate, you should consider yourself lucky.

If you could give the email address to which you sent the email in the UK, perhaps we could help you track that down.

I'm thinking the original source of the spam/scam message the OP got had the 702 number, seeing how the email address and the phone number posted are the OP's.

What the heck does this post have to do with the number under which it is posted?  The email in the posting appears to be the poster's own email address, and the phone number is an Indian telephone number (country code 91) that has nothing to do with the Nevada number under which the posting appears.  Also, it appears to be directed to a firm in the UK.

Reported to web administrator for removal.
