Got a robo-call, which prompted for a number, followed by another robo prompt to identify yourself. Glad I didn't follow through. Why let a machine set you up?

Glad my policy is to refuse robo-calls. Scam, collector, or legit, have the decency to put a human on to talk person-to-person. Otherwise, G.T.F. Outta Here.

Debt Collector
This is just another phony, computer-generated phone number used by Apelles Collections of Columbus, Ohio.  They might be related to the scam carpet cleaning service, too. So far, I have tracked Apelles down using the following phony numbers:
703-763-0716
703-763-0717
703-763-0726
703-763-0727
703-463-4279
703-763-4633
They also have the following toll-free numbers: 800-825-4425 and 888-825-4425.

Their website lists them as follows:

The debt they claim is a fraud.  The whole concept of what they are doing is a fraud.  I went to a local hospital emergency room last year, saw only one MD, a PA in his practice and an RN - their bills were paid promptly by my health insurance carrier, and I paid the co-pay.  I ended up getting hundreds of dollars in bills from other medical billing services - I called them and they could not provide the name of the MD whom they were billing for.  One billing agency said the bill ($600) might have been from a supervising MD who had to sign off on the release, which is a stinking lie, as the MD who actually saw me signed off on the form, gave me his card and the card for his PA.  As time went by, I kept getting more fraudulent bills from health billing services, none of whom could give me the name of the doctor!  They all are in cahoots with Apelles, a vast health care billing fraud, with constant calling, threatening letters, etc.  I told the hospital they must prevent people from looking at admissions records, since this is where the fraud agents are getting patients' personal data to be used for fraudulent billing.  I talked to my health insurance carrier and they suddenly became mystified as to how many extra doctors could possibly be involved with my emergency case, and I pointed out which were legit and which were frauds.  The insurance people don't seem to care, they just pay any bill that comes in, so the fraud billers can send me bills for the co-pay.  They must think everyone is an idiot.  Disgusting!  I went to Police HQ in my city and turned over copies of all the legit and fraudulent bills, along with a statement,  so the detectives could see the overall picture.  A month later I got a call from a lawyer for the hospital who insisted there must be a misunderstanding, etc.  I told him that if he thought a blatant fraud with the hospital in cahoots with all the fraudulent billing services was a misunderstanding, then I would send in a complaint to our state bar board requesting that he be summoned to show cause why he should be permitted to retain a license to practice law in this state, which prompted him to hang up.

Besides the local police, also call your local or nearest office of the United States Attorney, since what they are doing is a serious Federal criminal offense.  The only way to get rid of these criminals is to report them so they can be investigated, prosecuted and locked up.  If you know where the nearest United States Courthouse is, there will be an office of the United States Attorney in that city, or find it on the Internet.  Don't delay or be afraid - call them!!!  For all you know, they could have your (stolen) SSN and send equally fraudulent data to the credit bureaus and ruin your credit rating.. Also report them to the BBB and FTC.

Beware!   In my household and business, as well as many others, if an incoming call is not identified as to the person or business, it will not be answered.  The number for a persistent caller of this nature will be programmed into our call blockers.  It is assumed that all improperly or incompletely identified numbers are from the increasing number of scams, frauds, tie-lines, etc.  This is why everyone must contact their elected reps in DC to demand they significantly strengthen the DNC laws, providing extremely severe dollar and prison sentences for violators.  This is an opportunity for Congress to actually do something useful for the country, not just pass gas and throw spitballs at each other.  Any business must be properly identified on Caller Id, not hide behind Not Available, Private, Unavailable, etc.  There must be a new scam and fraud being generated every second out there.  We need call control, not gun control!
