We had our meager savings depleted by multiple illness, repairs, loss of income in a too short period. Had made arrangements with AmEx to make a partial payment for this month only while we regroup. Called less than a week later to let me know my card is suspended until fully caught up and there was no such agreement to do otherwise. Both reps appeared to be from India, and there does not appear to be a way to contact a US based person.

Also, they can and will call back on any phone you have ever called them from, including a house I visited and paid my bill in full from their home computer and a cell phone that is always turned off. It is only turned on to charge it, and they have been calling and I truly have no idea how they obtained the number; I have to look it up myself.

If anyone knows how to turn these offshore reps in for making deals that do not, in reality exist, I'd sure like to know.

Yes. Anyone calling you from this (704) 458-1206 number is calling from Amex. They are using a cell phone number so that it looks like someone else is calling you, and yes they are using outsourced help from India.

I too, have received such calls and did a little leg work and found out a few things. I am going to contact all three credit reporting agencies and put a freeze on my credit profile. I am also going to block that number from calling me at home or on my cell phone because they call many times a day. My situation is not unlike others out there. I lost my job 8 months ago. Fortunately my wife is working, so we can at least eat. Our stellar credit has gone to pot. We are barely making it. But God is awesome. I start my new job on Friday.

During the time off I went back to school and will be finishing up my degree in December. I am going to write them with a certified return receipt letter (credit bureaus and AMEX). Tell Amex that you do not wanted to be contacted by telephone as it constitutes harassment.

My situation was compounded in that my dad had cancer and I had to help with the medical bills and take care of him in FL. If they call you after you do that, log the calls and then you can sue them in court.

If you do so happen to be able to afford making payments, or come to some sort of agreement, get it in writing. Any time that you speak with creditors on the phone you lose your rights and it is all hearsay unless you get it in writing.

Even if you just send them $20 a month, that's better than nothing. That's all that I can afford, so that is all that I can pay. Creditors will eventually stop harassing you and will try to work with you.

THIS IS AMERICAN EXPRESS.  IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR SITUATION IS OR IF YOU JUST TOLD THEM YOU CAN'T PAY, THEY CALL BACK WITHIN THE HOUR.  CALLS START AT 8:05AM END AT 8:59PM.  NOT ONLY DO THEY CALL MY NUMBER BUT HAVE BEEN CALLING RELATIVES ASKING IF THEY KNOW ME.  I HAVE EXPLAINED MY SITUATION TO THEM AND TOLD THEM WHEN I COULD MAKE PMTS, BUT THEY DON'T CARE.

Get calls to cell and land line daily, no message left if I do not answer.  I do not give out me cell, so I do not know how I am getting unsoliceted calls.

Caller id said "cellular call". No message was left on voicemail. If this is Amex like other people said, there's something fishy going on. Also, it was 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

Said they were Amex. Not sure that I trust them as they did not have my name and said it was urgent business matter that had to be compelted today! Hmm
