got a phone call sound like british or canada not american talked to her and she was calling from a collection for american express for a balance due

It is a collection company for American Express.  I talked to them, they are not even in the US and are sporting an area code that is primarily issued to the US Govt.  Sounds shady...When I asked them about the area code, she got nasty and told me that was the least of my worries....She went on to tell me that I would be getting court papers in the mail within the next 5 days.  She said American Express is seeking a judgment and then they will get a lien on whatever I own.  They were only willing to work out a payment arrangement that would not exceed 60 days.  That did not work for me, so I told her I would see them in court.

finally got a message. was a recording of a british woman and it was from Nationwide Credit.

They've called my house twice today -- what's up with that? It came up on caller ID as POTS phone. Whoever it is DO NOT ANSWER OR GIVE ANY INFORMATION because it is probably not the US government especially on Memorial Day. If you owe money to creditors it is probably them -- since the banks have been bailed out by the government they think that they can do anything they want to get their money back from those who can't afford to pay them back -- even pose as a government agency.

Got another call from this number - this time I was home and answered.  Automated voice said they had "an important message" for someone and asked me to press "1" if I was that person.  I pressed "1" and was put on hold to wait for the next available person.  Also, I tried calling the number and was asked for my PIN.  This whole identifying as a gov't. agency REALLY has me mad - it's MEMORIAL DAY and my son is in Iraq and twice today I have had these people causing me undue stress about his safety.  And I'm not even the person they are looking for.  Whoever these people are, they deserve real punishment.  Tomorrow I'm calling my Congress reps.

I checked this number earlier today and there were no posts...Now, there are several.  They have called me twice today, did not leave a message.  On my ID it came up "POTS phone".  It is government, as they are the only ones that have this area code.

It is a scam run by foreigners (sounds Indian) trying to get information. I just spoke to whoever called me and they quickly hung up when I wouldnt give them any personal information. It is Memorial Day. Official calls shouldn't come in until tomorrow.

I keep receiving calls from this number at my parents house.  I live in a totally different state  and the govt should know this.  just curious what it is all about.

I also got a call from this #. I did not answer and they didn't leave a voice mail. I find it odd that the caller ID said U.S. Gov. and this is Memorial Day.... Gov. offices are all closed today!

This number appeared on my caller ID.  They left no message and I cannot find out anything about this number through my usual searches, other than it is a US Gov't # - which I knew from caller ID.  This is very vexing, as my son is currently in Iraq, and anything like this makes my blood run cold.

I received a call from the same number--710-612-7244 and caller id said US Government.  No message was left.  I don't know who the caller was.
