do I pay for 712 calls?

Same as all the above. Sub-literate person answered when I pressed 1. I was asked **IF** I pressed 1 to lower my interest rate (shouldn't you know that already??) I answered yes, then was asked to provide my area code. I said no, and that I would like to know what organization was calling me. Was told "okay" and hung up on.
Definitely a scam of some sort, preying on the vulnerable.

Call came in the other day, oddly enough - I live in Canada too. Call came looking for my brother - who, the only company that thinks he lives here is Meridian Credit Union due to an address change mixup (I moved, and changed his accounts' address to my house, by mistake - I gave them the wrong account number)...
So someone at Meridian is selling customer information, this much I can prove - the only company that thinks he lives here at my house is them.
Anyways, I listened to the auto-dialer, something about "Better credit rates, nothing is wrong with your account" (definately scammy) I pressed 3 to connect to them, asked to be added to the "Do not Call List" and was promptly hung up on. Legit companies don't act like that.

A good part of Iowa is currently flooded. Probably somebody is trying to scam people in order to pay for water damage. Refer them to the Red Cross and hang up.

Like a previous poster, I live in Canada. I was out and caller did not leave a message. A lookup of the number shows it as being from Sloan, IOWA -- no doubt, a lovely town but I don't know a soul there. I strongly suspect it's a scam or a telemarketer (or both).

I received a call from the same number. I missed the call but they didn't leave a message.

I received the same call about a credit card account...I live in Canada...The call came from Iowa.

I recieved the same call "it's an urgent call regading your current credit card account", just a few minutes after I placed an order with an online retailer. I cant help but think they two events are connected. I answered because sometimes my CC company calls to verify purchases as a security measure. The caller was not from my bank.

Received two calls from this number and have no idea why unless they are trying to give me money, big fat chance of that!

Got a call from this number. They left an automatic message on my answering machine saying it's an urgent call regading your current credit card account, bla bla bla. They said there is no problem with your account, but I can get a lower rate if i dial 1(I think) to speak to a live operator or 3 to discontinue further notices(?). Well, my answeing machine can not dial yet.....
