Received call from 714-261-1535 was automated call saying they wanted to lower the interest rate on my major credit card.  It gave the option of pressing 1 for representative or 2 to stop future calls.  Out of interest I pressed 1, a man thanked me for holding and then asked which credit card I wanted to lower the interest rate on.   I told him I didn't have a credit card and he became angry, yelled at me and hung up.

This is a scammer call.  Do not give ANY information to these people.

I've been the Do-Not-Call list for over a month and these people keep calling me to tell me I'm eligible for free digital cable equipment. Their calls are not just annoying, but the repetitive nature of them makes me feel as if I'm being harassed. I tried calling them back to take them off their list, but they don't take incoming calls.

This sounds like a scammer call to me.  Called saying they could reduce interest rate on my major credit card.  I told him I didn't have a major credit card, he became rude and hung up.  BEWARE!!!!!

I sign up for sweepstakes and stuff online all of the time, and use a voicemail box I got for free online. It isn't even for my area code, but it helps to use it when I don't actually want someone calling me.

If that doesn't work for you, this may help! You can find a recording of the 3 beeps that indicate a call is being made to a non-working number (you know those 3 beeps you get when you dial the wrong number?). Just make a copy of the first beep, and play that right before you record your voicemail message. When the automated machines hear that first beep, they will assume it is a bad number and hang up. Normal people who call will just hear a quick beep and then your message.

Hope that helps!

have received this call numerous times and it doesn't ever stop.  They are calling my work number and this is a federal contracted company so it doesn't look like the government is trying to do much about it.  I have reported numerous times.

If it is your cellphone, save them as a contact on your cell phone, then set their default ringtone to "No Ring" When they call it will not bother you.

If it is your home phone, call your home phone provider and tell them you want this number blocked from harassing you, the caller threaten your child. If they say they can not, threaten to cancel your service and speak to a supervisor.

If that fails there is free software called phonetray . com that will leave a service disconnect message for any caller you want. Just put in their number and when they call the phone will not ring and they will hear the message. All you need is a duplex 56K modem. Check out their site for details and help setting it up

SCHUMER CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE FEDERAL ACTION ON CAR WARRANTY CELL-PHONE SPAM CALLS NOW DRIVING NEW YORKERS CRAZY

Annoying and Potentially Costly Computerized Telemarketing Calls Invading Cell Phones at Alarming and Growing Rate - Calls Warn "Your Car Warranty Has Expired" - 20,000 Complaints Already Logged Nationwide

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer requested that the Federal Trade Commission act swiftly to stop companies behind the wave of cell phone spam pitching bogus car warranty?s to New Yorkers and unsuspecting cell phone users across the country. Even worse, the scam artists are using random call generators allowing them to call people who are on the Do Not Call List, calling them repeatedly, driving them crazy, and gobbling up costly cell phone minutes. Schumer said the calls, which have been reported for months, are on the rise. Schumer himself and members of his staff received nearly identical calls last Thursday and the Better Business Bureau has gotten more than 140,000 inquiries from victims across the country. Schumer today asked the FTC to work quickly to identify the scam artists and shut their operations down.

?Cell phone spam may not be the biggest problem we have to deal with, but in the end it?s driving everyone nuts and it could cost New Yorkers hundreds in wasted cell phone minutes, or more if they get caught in the scam,? Schumer said. ?This is an annoying scam whose perpetrators have found a way around the Do Not Call List. The FTC has to track them down and then shut them down to put an end to this nuisance once and for all.?

The scam begins when someone?s cell phone rings from an unrecognized number. The caller then turns out to be a computerized voice selling car warranties with voice starting out by saying "Out of warranty? You are still eligible to reactivate warranty coverage. This is the final call before we close the file." The recording typically gives the caller an option to stop receiving calls, usually saying "press two to be removed from the follow up list." However, the calls continue to come. The company making the calls has no idea what car a person is driving because the calls are randomly generated, so their contention that your warranty "is about to expire" is bogus.

Schumer today asked the Federal Trade Commission to take immediate action to stop the companies behind these intrusive and unsolicited car warranty telemarketing calls ? both to cell phones and land lines.  In a personal letter to FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz, Schumer wrote, ?Not only are these calls a nuisance, but they tie up land lines and can eat up a user?s cell phone minutes, possibly leading to a higher cell phone bill due to overage charges.  Consumers should not have to pay in both money and time for this or any other type of robo-dialer harassment.?

Schumer received one of these annoying calls on his cell phone last week and also will file an official complaint through the FTC?s website, www.donotcall.gov. Schumer encouraged any New Yorker who receives one of these calls to do the same.

May 10, 2009

The Honorable Jon Leibowitz
Chairman, Federal Trade Commission
600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20580

Dear Chairman Leibowitz,

I am writing today to ask the Federal Trade Commission to take immediate action to stop the companies behind the increasing number of intrusive and unsolicited car warranty telemarketing calls ? both to cell phones and land lines.  I have received a significant number of complaints from New York constituents about these deceptive, pre-recorded messages.  I myself received one of these annoying calls on my cell phone just last week and intend to file an official complaint through the FTC?s website, www.donotcall.gov.

I understand that more than 140,000 people have contacted the Better Business Bureau regarding this specific type of call.  Consumers report that even after choosing the message option to remove your number from the company?s list, the calls continue.  Not only are these calls a nuisance, but they tie up land lines and can eat up a user?s cell phone minutes, possibly leading to a higher cell phone bill due to overage charges.  Consumers should not have to pay in both money and time for this or any other type of robo-dialer harassment.

Mr. Chairman, I urge you to determine whether these unsolicited, deceptive and possibly costly calls violate any of the laws enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, and to act swiftly against any company found in violation of such laws.  The National Do Not Call Registry was intended to give consumers a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls.  I am concerned that car warranty telemarketing calls are making a mockery out of that choice.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.  I look forward to hearing from you on this issue.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator

I had to add them to my cell phone address book,  at least I can tell it is them calling.  I named it 'idiot solicitor'  and set the ringtone
to silent.

After they hit voicemail on my phone about 5 times they stopped calling

I am going to string them along one day when they call my landline
that should get rid of them,  it worked for a siding company a few years
ago that called me,  I acted real interested,  and got the details,  and
they wanted to know the value of my home, I told them '$ 5000'
they guy hung up on me when I told him I live in a trailer.  HA HA

They are calling our cell phone number.  We have quit answering area code that we don't recognize.   Don't know how they got our cell number but getting tired of this kind of abuse.  If possible go to google.com and put number in - I got this site first.   This abuse could be stopped if goverment inflected punishments.  News reports said they are going to crack down now.   I sure hope so.

I have been receiving calls from them for months. Finally answered and pressed "1". The operator asked for my make and model. I replied that they should have it on file; he informed me they are a 3rd party. I asked for my name to be removed from the list. He hung up on me.

have received a few calls like this. each time they ask for the make and model of the car. I figure, since they're telling me the warranty is about to expire, why wouldn't they have that information on file?

I tell her i don't know which car she's referring to and I get a "you don't know the make and model of your own car?" so i tell her that I have three cars and would like to know which one this pertains to. she immediately hung up.

in the year 2009, with all the people aware of scams such as this, why would any tellemarketer think people would just give personal information over the phone to someone that has no record of who they're even calling?

I have pressed 1 after automated message notifiying that the car warrenty is up. On the first attempt to stop the calling, I started to explain to a live operator that I have just acquired the number and to put the number on their no call list when they promptly hung up. On the second attempt, I asked to speak to her supervisor, to which she replied that she would too. Since this is outgoing, it has to be toll free. These two calls came in today. I'm tired of this harrassment.
