I didn't recognize the phone number. 714-551-5500, so I didn't pick up. After reading the post on this site, It appears to be the same people asking for some kind of donation. My number is on the registered with the Federal 'Do not call'list. How do I (we) report this?
Ms. Gee 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
They hung up and didn't leave a message. The caller ID said something like LA for Drive.
mack 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
It is for the police officers. either donate or don't donate. It goes to a good cause.
sjacobson 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
its the los angeles fraternal order of police asking for donations to help the families of police officers that have died.
ask them to take you off their list if you do not want to donate.
i also think, but dont know for sure, that the do not call list does _not_ apply to registered NPO's (non profit organizations).
if you think a "charity" call is a scam, have them send you an addressed envelope in the mail to send your donation back in.
liza 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
its not a scam. they are not selling anything just asking for donations for the memorial foundation.
Vangie 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
I would like to know whose number is this.
Vangie 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Caller did not leave a message. Tried to call back but it's a wrong number.
jetames 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Live person calling on behalf of FOP or some such crap. When I told the male caller that this was a scam, he hung up! They called on July 9, 2009.
Mark 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Said hello hello into my voicemail. Sounds like a scam. I wouldn't give any money to this, if you want to donate to FOP, contact them directly.
Casey 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Quick call. Not pushy. FOP.
June 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Not selling anything. polite.

Received a call from (714) 551-5500 today at 11:46am. Caller ID said "Out of Area" and nothing else. I didn't answer -- I don't answer numbers I don't recognize -- and they left no message. I've been on the DNC list since it started, so I'd love to know where to report these guys. There's virtually of way of knowing if they are a legit charity. Regardless, I'm not giving a dime to someone who calls on the phone.
Nar 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
I have recieved a few calls from ths number. They always try to collect donations for the police but i really think they are trying to scam people
Eric 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
He was calling on for the Fraternal Order of Police. They help families of police officers and help with charity programs. They were quick and polite.
M 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Is this legit
Ronda 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Asked for my husband by name and told me he was not in trouble and then how he was working for the police charity (sounded fishy) so I hung up!
TJ 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
He said he was calling for "LA For Police" and said "don't worry, you're not in trouble", then began to ask for money.
Rik 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Federation of Police seeking donations.
Shouldn't be calling my line that is on the "do not call" list.
John 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
Wow, they called and asked me "is this John?" I said yes. They hung up. WTF???
Rick 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
It was a computer voice talking to me asking if the name of the business was home. I asked who they wanted to speak to and they kept repeating the same thing over and over.
JD 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
They called me and barely let me get a word in! They are soliciting monetary donations for their fallen police officers program for the LAPD. I thought it was strange that it came up as an "Unknown Name" on my caller I.D. I gave a mailing address so they could send a pledge sheet. We'll see if it shows up!
SouthBay 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
They Called 6-30-09 at 10:19am. They said they are from a Police Union collecting money. I but this number on my banned list right away !
HOME 2011-06-06 20:55:21 Unknown
This number called twice and has not left a single message. I looked up the numbers on whitepages.com (reverse lookup) and it does not have a listing for this number.

States Warn Against Dubious Charities
Attorneys General warn citizens about professional solicitors
December 9, 2009
Consumers have to walk something of a tightrope this time of year. Holidays are always an expensive time, yet many want to support charities and worthwhile causes. But the last thing you want to do is have your contribution line the pockets of the solicitor.
In Oregon, Attorney General John Kroger unveiled a list of Oregon's 20 Worst Charities and offered tips to consumers on how to donate wisely.
"In the middle of a recession, it is more important than ever that generous Oregonians make charitable contributions to organizations that help veterans and others who are in need," Kroger said. "It is critical, however, that people donate wisely. Although many charities do great work, some are little more than scams with good-sounding names but that do little to actually help the people they claim to support."
State law requires charities to file periodic financial reports with the Oregon Department of Justice disclosing how much money the organization raised and how the funds were spent. The Department's Charitable Activities Section has identified 20 organizations (see attached) that spent more than 75 percent of the donations they collected on administrative costs and professional fundraising.
While guidelines issued by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) suggest that charitable organizations should spend at least 65 percent of their funds on charitable programs, every charity on the Department of Justice's list devoted less than 25 percent of their expenditures on charitable program activities.
One organization near the top of the list, Shiloh International Ministries, solicits donations to provide medical necessities and other support to needy children, veterans, and homeless persons. According to the most recent financial filings, the California-based nonprofit spent an average of $1,023,215 per year, 96.35 percent of which went to management and fundraising.
Kentucky concerns
Unscrupulous charity solicitations are not just confined to one area of the country. With double-digit unemployment rates in Kentucky, for example, more Kentucky families are in need of a helping hand this holiday season.
Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says people who give to a charity should give wisely. Unfortunately, he says, there are unscrupulous or even fraudulent charities that prey on the generosity of Kentuckians.
"Every dollar donated to a reputable charity can make a difference in the life of someone who may be struggling to put food on the table or clothe a child," Conway said. "Irresponsible or fraudulent charities not only take advantage of the kindness of hard-working Kentuckians, they deprive those who need our help. Before you decide whether a charity deserves your donation, gather as much information as possible to make sure the charity is not a scam and that your donation reaches someone in need."
Both Kroger and Conway offer these tips for wise holiday giving:
? Donate to charities you know and trust.
? Be cautious of sound-alike charities and solicitors unable to answer questions.
? Always ask what percentage of your dollar goes to the cause.
? Don't be pressured into making a donation.
? Ask if the charity or solicitor is registered with the Office of the Attorney General.

This phone number is calling to do fund raising for the LA County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1. I have called the number. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions, help you donate, or anything else related to the FOP. Also, there?s information on www.cafop.org. Plus, you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for LA County police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.
this is the truth 2009-08-06 15:44:08 Unknown
Do you KNOW for a FACT that the telemarketer gets 90% donated? Then you probably shouldn't post that.
This charity is a great organization and I would urge anyone who would like to contribute to do so. The FOP IS a charity, the funds help in many ways. The money goes to trainging officers to help keep themselves and the public at large safe. It goes to help the families of fallen officers. And much more....AND all charities can be written off!!! Obviously you don't donate that often!!!
I will agree whole heartedly that there are a lot of scams out there, but this isn't one of them. If you would like to donate directly to the FOP, you can do so on there website http://www.wafop.com/
The Truth 2009-07-29 15:29:32 Unknown
Of course they're nice because they're a telemarketer keeping up to 90 percent of what you donate. If you want to give money to a charity, give it directly. The FOP isn't even a charity anyway; it is not a not-for-profit and you cannot write off donations. You're better off giving the money to your local police department.
sue 2009-07-29 15:25:31 Unknown
www.wafop.com they are not a scam, and if they use a 3rd party to make their calls it doesn't mean its a scam! you can ask them to send you info. they will and you can donate that way or donate on the website.
Allen 2009-07-15 20:35:29 Unknown
Yes they really are legit. look them up on the web. www.wafop.com
Kate 2009-07-13 17:36:41 Unknown
sounded fishy at first, but they are actually with the fraternal order of police. charity stuff for families with in the police. they were nice once i realized who they were.
