They got your name and your daughter's name from skip tracing. They took your information from an account that you owed them and looked up everyone that lived with you. They traced those people to find phone numbers and addresses for them. If they wanted, they can get information on your neighbor and have them pick a fight with your or leave messages on your door. They have high powered tools used to trace and find people. I suggest you take them to court and sue. That's what I plan on doing. I paid the debt 6 years ago and they say that I still owe it. So help me, they will pay!

With all due respect its Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)  witch is a federal act each state has its own set of debt collection laws as well. You can not just sue a collector just because you tell them not to call you, you need to send them a letter and be able to prove that they have harassed you. Your debt does not just disappear because a collector calls you a few times.  If a legitimate collector calls you ask for verification of the debt do not provide any information, if they have a legitimate debt they will send it to you in the mail  (Within 5 days of first contact).  When you have them on the phone tell them not to contact you again and that you are sending them a certified letter stating that the calls are harassing and any further communications need to be made by certified mail.    NOTE any communications should be documented, phone calls and mailings.  If phone calls continue then you have grounds for recourse but its only up to 1000 dollars per FDCPA violation That is paid to you (THIS DOSE NOT ERASE YOUR DEBT) as long as the debt falls within your states statute of limitations you still owe the debt.  even after the limitation has past, the debt is not removed unless a judgment is reached that you no longer owe the debt.  there are several law firms that help with this type of matter and a lot of them will sue collectors for FDCPA violations.  ALSO to add, the big misconception of the do not call list,  this only applies to telemarketing.  If you do business with or owe money to a company the do not call list does not apply the company and their affiliates are allowed to contact you.  Best advice know your rights and state debt laws and if you think you have a complaint against a lagitimate debt collector contact a lawyer that practices civil debt law.

As for the Do Not Call list...No that is not just for 800 numbers...FDCP law states that if you in any way tell these collectors DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER ANYMORE, they are not allowed to continue to call, and if they do, you can then get a lawyer and sue that company...of course you need to figure if the cost of the lawyer is worth the effort, however if this company has violated the FDCP laws, your debt will then be erased. I also got a call from this same number gave his name, used my name.......only he said Jess T....My legal name is Jesse so if it was anything serious he would have said Jesse not Jess.....glad I know enough to google odd phone calls like this otherwise I could've screwed up my streak of non answering!!!!

Debt Collector
the call first came to my home state he was from Legal Aid and needed to speak with my husband...gave a case number.....i had let it ring through and let it leave the message...moments later my cell rang with that same number coming up...left the same message there...

I wass actually going to return the call, but googled it first....found you guys with the same scenario.

Yup, I can join your club....debt collector after us......

I am now going to see if i can put it in the "do not call" database with the gov.
See if it will work or if only for 800 numbers-but there is no guarantee  until 30 days for
it to be invoked...

Debt Collector
I was called by this number and the answer machine picked it upThe party on the other end knew my name, address and also my wifes name. This person wanted me to call him and sited a case number so I am sure it was a debt collector. This same number called my step daughter twice and stated he was calling to contact me. He stated my name and address. This was also picked up by the answer machine and she also did not have a converstion with him.
I do have some unpaid debt from about fifteen years ago but, despite numerous calls and letters,I have chosen never to speak to anyone, as I was unable to pay and did not want the clock to start ticking if i did.
I have a voip phone that is not listed and my daughter does not have the same name as I, so i am at a loss how they got both of our numbers.
My only thought is that one of the debt collectors hounding me for years was NCO financial and the company I go thru to pay my electric bill is NCO, so perhaps thats how they got my name but I am at a loss as to how they got my daughters name.
