Prank Call
I've been getting these calls for a couple months now, 2 in the last 2 days, after repeatedly telling this jerk to not call me back to no avail, I decided to go to my service provider and add this number to my selective call list. (Most major carriers have this, if you're getting plagued by these calls you may want to look into its existence) I'm wondering if they aren't getting the number from internet website information, I've got a couple virtually unknown websites I own (so I don't pay for domain privacy) and I'm wondering if they are getting it from that. Anyone else getting called by them have a website?

A man with an Indian accent claimed to be with Windows and he was calling from the "technology department" to fix my PC.  I told him I didn't have a PC.  He said, "You don't have a laptop?"  I said no, then asked him how he got my number.  The call immediately disconnected.

---> "I will be filing a report with the FTC." <---

Not anytime soon, you won't.  The tea baggers have shut them down.  You can't even queue up a report for later investigation, nor can your state or local government access their databases.  Try for yourself:

http://www.ftc.gov

And don't look for this to be on the tea baggers' list of things to restore quickly.  It doesn't provide a good photo op for them.

These a***oles have been calling my house at least twice a day every day this week. They claim to be with Microsoft. I've told them to stop calling me more than once, and they're calling increasingly late in the evening now. I will be filing a report with the FTC.

I have been getting calls for the past few days from this number and another number which is also a scam. I picked it up the first time and it said "New York" and then then it was dead, the second time the phone rang, I did not pick it up and just looked up the number here. I hope this does not continue. Is there anyway to report these numbers?

A fellow with an India accent has been calling every day for the past week by the name of Jara Jorge.  He was hard to understand.  For the first 5 days, I just let it ring.  Yesterday, I answered and no one was there.  Today, it rang again and I picked it up. He said that he had been trying to get ahold of me for a long while because I had a virus on my computer and he wanted to help.  I ask him who he was and he said he was with Microsoft.  He repeated himself about the virus, then I proceeded to tell him to never call again and hung up.  I hope he doesn't call back again!!!!!

I keep getting calls from this "New York" number. Someone with a heavy (East) Indian accent tries to tell me that Microsoft's getting message from my computer about virus activity/operating system errors/etc . . . I usually hang up on them. Once I told the fellow I knew it was a scam, then hung up. Today I told him it was impossible as I didn't have a computer! He told me to go to hell. LOL

'"They really need to add "scammer" to the "call type" dropdown on this site." JulieFromUtah'  I totally agree.

MJG, I presume you meant report that number to the Do Not Call list although I'm not sure how much that will help with a foreign scammer using VOIP to spoof a US number.

This is not the first time my phone has been called by this number. I thought I'd reported this before but I guess I didn't. Don't see my name anywhere here. The couple times I've seen this number and "Jara Jorge" (the name that comes up on caller ID) I've let it go to my answering machine. And of course no message is left -- the caller hangs up.

My phone doesn't have a call blocker - just has caller ID that pops up on my television as well as the phone (my service is connected). I always look up to see who's calling and know when to answer it and when to let it go to the answering machine. TV is always on; if I'm not watching a show, I listen to one of the music channels. The only time it doesn't show up on the TV is if I'm watching a show I previously recorded on the DVR. Then I just pick up the phone and look at its window. Can be a PITA but I deal with it.

Judging from what I've read here, my system does prevent me from having any problems - that I know of, that is,

Before answering, I screened the id and the name read Jara Jorge #7182050445, upon answering, I heard an echo and/or reverb in the background, once the caller began his dialog stating his name was James, an IT employed with Microsoft. He went on to say they had detected numerous of malware and viruses within my computer, which at the time my computer wasn't powered on. I then asked for his name once again, he said,

Him: James.
I: James, what?
Him: James John.
I: So you have two first names?
Him: yes sir, can you turn on your computer so that we can fix the problem.
I: Where are your head quartered James?
Him: California
I: What city?

(CLICK) he hung up!

Beware! Total scammer!

Its called number spoofing. They use disconnected numbers and sometimes even spoof real legit numbers and IDs hoping you answer the phone.

All those phoney techs want is access to your computer for who knows what and also to scam $$ for repairs they are not even doing.

This person, "Jara Jorge" has called my telephone number twice today. I dialed it back after the 2nd call, and I got a three tone signal and a message that the number was not a working number. However, I know it is, because someone just called me from it and I did not manually dial it back. I used redial. I have been having trouble with my internet connection all day long, and I have a feeling it is because of this number. I think someone is using our internet system to do something nefarious... I saw several reports here that said the caller claimed to be from Windows support, and then requested they turn on their computer. In order for someone outside to use your computer they have to have it on... they are probably watching your keystrokes.

SO - JARA?? STOP IT. I AM REPORTING YOU TO THE FBI. So there.

Same as above - called me on July 12, 2013 and said he was from Microsoft Technical Support.  Said I had very bad virus on my computer and wanted me to start pushing buttons.  Had a very heavy Indian accent.  I had already Googled the number and seen the scam reports, so I told him to never call again, at which point he started swearing at me.  I did call my police dept and the dispatcher told me that no crime had been committed since I didn't do what he wanted, but if I had told him to never call back, and if he did, I could sue them for harrassment.
He called again today, August 30, 2013.  Same accent, said he was with Windows Technical Support, and the same deal with viruses, and still wanting me to go into my computer and push buttons and he would fix it.  After playing him for a bit, I finally told him that I had previously told them to never call back and now I was calling the police dept and suing them.  He said, go ahead and call the police and I will talk to them.  I told him 3 times to never call back.  He insisted several times that I give him info from my computer.  I did hang up on him and called the police, they did come out, and they are checking into what they can find.  The dispatcher today also said she had another call come in about this same scam earlier in the day.
